Chapter 210: From Master to Slave (11)

“Even so.... How could she not hug me even once!”

Immediately after she was kicked out of Aether’s room, Rosemary returned to the Iron Formations, whining.

“...But, what do I do now?”

There wasn’t anything to do even if she came back here.

Rosemary had done her share of work in the meantime. If she counted half-destroying the Empire, she had brought 3.5 countries to ruin.

As such, she was told to rest by both superiors and subordinates, and since it happened to overlap with being badly wounded, she was in the midst of leisurely days.

But her body was itching as she had always preferred to move around. As she was mindlessly reading on her bed, she leapt up.

“Uwaa...!”

Her calf tingled like electricity went through it.

But having this kind of pain was better than staying still. With the cane, Rosemary began inspecting the inside of the Iron Formations.

“W-what brings you here, Miss Rosemary...?”

“I’m bored.”

Although it was called inspection, she was just walking around.

“Can I go to Sector Zero?”

“To see the Elemental?”

“I feel like it, haven’t done it in a while. Why, is there a problem?”

“Not really.”

The Eight Iron Formations was a large octagonal structure where sectors one to eight were placed counterclockwise and each one contained more than one research facility.

But there was a specialized facility underground in the center, and they called this ‘Sector Zero’.

Sector Zero was notorious for trapping Elementals and their contractors in a special chamber and subjecting them horrific torture in the name of experimenting.

Sure enough, eardrum-splitting screams could be heard as she got closer to said sector.

“...So loud.”

Even Rosemary hadn’t been here too many times, as she was uncomfortable with the screaming.

Being a Beast, she had thought over and over again about tearing apart the humans and Elementals, but that was just based on her personal beliefs.

And although she had often engaged in wars, civil wars, had come between people and slandered, she could count on one hand the number of times she had personally murdered or tortured.

Well, so.

She didn’t have any sadistic hobbies like enjoying the screams of humans and Elementals, basically.

There was one reason why Rosemary came to a place where she didn’t normally visit.

Because the key to stopping the world’s destruction was here.

“Mmm.......”

Creak.

Covering her ears, Rosemary pushed firmly on the solid metal door with her elbow. The door made of titanium alloy opened easily as it was fairly light.

“Augh, the stink of blood.”

The inside of the torture chamber was hot and sticky like freshly boiled vegetable soup. Blood, flesh, spirituals and humans came together in one place and presented a visually painful scenery.

Most of all, the sound.

“...I said not to talk back.”

“Arrrghhh...!”

The sound of flesh ripping and a woman’s agonized screams came together in a requiem.

Rosemary held her breath. She poked her head out and looked around.

“Oh goodness.... This wouldn’t have happened if you had just brought out the Elementals. Right?”

“Shut, up.......”

“Would you look at this? Then it can’t be helped.”

Stab!

The woman screamed again. Splat! Blood splattered. The floor that had been clean like the banquet hall of the palace was being stained with blood.

Rosemary watched everything happening vividly. The woman’s limbs were torn off, then regenerated. Then it was organs in her body.... Oh geez, wait. The eyes?

Uh, ooh, whoa. Wow, fuck.

That’s a bit–

If she had been human, she would’ve felt sick right here.

Rosemary waited until Gilach finished his business. Do not even bother dogs when they eat, they said. She didn’t want to get in trouble for interrupting a Heaven when they were in the middle of something.

The whole body of the tortured woman was stained red, like her spinel-like pupils. Gilach shook off his hook like he was satisfied, then after healing the woman of everything, he left.

Her butchered body was back to normal, but the woman curled up and trembled.

She’d be in serious mental anguish. But seeing as she didn’t even shed a tear, Rosemary supposed that she wasn’t an ordinary human.

After checking that Gilach had completely left–

Rosemary entered the torture chamber that smelled of smoke.

“Hey, are you alright?”

Rosemary gently shook the unconscious woman.

Wow, shit. Her eyes had no focus.

For now she turned on a flashlight and flickered the light.

It was called a flashlight, but it was basically turning on the light of her eyes and blinking repeated.

After lighting... no, turning on both her eyes and shaking her head a few times, the woman came to with the occasional groan.

“Y-you are....... Lady Blanton...?”

“Ah, right.”

This woman was from a high-class family of the Empire, too.

She would have memories of seeing Rosemary in passing. It seemed that she remembered it immediately.

Goodness, she was a bit touched.

Although she would never be going to Empire again, Rosemary confirmed for now.

“You recognize me, hm?”

“The lights from your eyes.... You were a Beast as well?”

Rosemary nodded, and as she did, the light also moved according to that.

“Everyone who came here and saw me said that.”

“...Damn it.”

The woman, Klara Hasfeldt, appeared crestfallen.

“To think that the country I gave my life to protect was already taken over by you.... It’s not even funny.”

“You aren’t even dead so what life did you give?”

“...It’s the same as being dead if I’m here. Yes, if you at least end me here....”

“Hey.”

Rosemary turned off the light and continued.

“Your younger sister was captured, too.”

“What......?”

Klara’s face went slack.

**Just how many years had she been tortured?

Klara’s body, which had been treated worse than the other prisoners for the sole reason that she was an Elemental Mage, was reaching its limit.

She had trouble walking properly, and her stomach had lost so much of its digestive function that it couldn’t even take the softest porridge.

And not only that, her limbs were nothing but bones, and the color of her skin was pale like a corpse.

Her eyes showed signs of hemostasis, dark circles having long since grown underneath them, and her mind became unspeakably desolate from all the insults heard at every opportunity.

Still, Klara didn’t go mad for one reason:

Because of the Elementals.

She gave any mana that she gathered to the Elementals. In exchange for consuming the mana, the Elementals blessed her with a strong mind and unwavering will, and even restored some of her bodily functions. If it hadn’t been for the Elementals, she would’ve already gone insane or died.

To be honest, this much was bearable although it was hard.

- Hello.

That is, until that elf appeared.

That elf meaning Gilach.

After the appearance of Gilach, Klara’s life of torture had taken a 180-degree turn.

First of all, she wasn’t able to get help from the Elementals.

It was because of Gilach’s abilities. Gilach nullified all the magic that Klara used with just his hook.

She didn’t know what kind of ability was in that hook, but it seemed to have a solid preparation against an Elemental Mage. Simply put, it was a counter.

- Why don’t you take out the Elementals? That way you could fight me or whatever, no? Huhaha!

That elf with the disturbing laugh kept urging her to bring out the Elementals. Finding that strange, Klais never summoned her two Elementals into this world, as she had the feeling that she’d be ‘ripped and devoured’ if things went wrong.

Anyway, it had been getting worse by the day because of that. Her body would be destroyed every time, that man’s laughter would get more obnoxious by the day, and he’d even heal her back to normal when she was about to lose her mind.

As such, her mind was going crazy even though her body was fine.

At least he didn’t take her everywhere with him, otherwise if that Beast did, she would’ve been dead by now.

Anyway, death was getting closer.

The belief that she would somehow make it out alive began to gradually diminish. Just, it was painful. If only someone would break this cycle....

That was what she had been thinking one day.

“Your sister tried to escape from here so I stomped on her and locked her up again.”

The young lady of the Blanton family who had shown up out of nowhere.

No, the Cataclysm that had disguised herself as a young lady of the Empire, ‘Rosemary Tarkenil’, was just spilling information about her sister to her.

Thumo!

Klara tried bashing her head into the floor.

Ah, it hurt like crazy. Some tears leaked.

It was real.

“...You, what did you say you did to my sister, to Klais?”

“Uh, I beat like this and this and locked her up in the blood drawing chamber.”

Rosemary smiled wickedly as she waved her arms.

She might look as cute as a doll, but she was still a Cataclysm. Even a careless hand gesture frightened her. It was due to the effect of ‘Intimidate’.

“You....”

Klara clenched her teeth with a crack.

Still, how dare she touch her family.

She couldn’t forgive her.

Klara glowered at her and twisted her body. The chains attached all over her shook wildly, jangling.

She would’ve been able to fight if only she had enough mana.

She would’ve been able to escape if only her body had been a little less fatigued!

Her sudden will to live, the will to see her sister and family was all blocked by the chains.

Klara made a devastated face like a bird who lost her baby.

She was angry.

So, so angry at how weak she was.

She was so angry at herself for not being able to say anything to the mockery of the Beast in front of her that she couldn’t stand it.......

“Uhmm, but I think it was a bit wrong of me.”

“......Hah?”

“Sorry.”

Rosemary bowed her head and broke all the chains binding Klara.
