Chapter 75: Two Lost Birds

Alto followed her but his questions overflowed from him, "How did you know I was a mech designer?"

She smiled and said. "I can see it in your eyes, they were impressed by everything. I know it’s easy to get in a place filled with wondrous inventions whoever you have a brain like ours, some might call it a curse but I say it’s a gift."

"Wow", Alto remarked clearly impressed by her words that seemed to surpass his own scope of understanding or it felt like such. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

She giggled softly and said, "Impressed? Don’t be, that was one of the lines from a cartoon I watched on the way here."

Alto’s face grew confused at the thought that this girl was toying with him. With someone she had only just met at that, "Excuse me, I’m a bit confused here."

"That you are." Now she led him out of the crowd into an even bigger city landscape, with a long road that led deeper into the city, there were a number of hover cars that floated off the ground by a few feet by releasing a pulse of blue waves.

"Magnetic waves?" Alto could not help but say, "It works on the basis of magnetic propulsion, the amount of energy needed to sustain this without any flaw is not much but I guess if you put diligent effort into it it’s possible."

"Not if you override it with electromagnetic coils," the beautiful young woman pitched in. "See we are both mech designers, well we will be if we pass well in this competition."

Alto shivered slightly as he felt her bosoms pressing hard against his arm as she wrapped herself around his arm. "Does this girl have no dignity or respect for personal space? I have to find Eleven no doubt he’ll be worried sick about me."

At the same time Eleven had come out of the crowd and was currently walking down to a food stall to buy one of their street foods, he stopped before the beauty aroma there and smiled. "Kebabs, how much for two?" He asked in serious tone.

The vendor replied. "That will be two Solarin." It was a talk woman with thick grey hair hidden under a hair net, and wearing an apron. She looked at him with positive eyes.

Eleven nodded in understanding, "And how much is that in darn?"

The vendor’s expression turned dark and hostile very, very quickly. Eleven then realised that people there took their business very seriously and even more when money was involved. "That will be ten thousand darn per Solarin and don’t bug me with that shitty currency I’m not an exchange depot."

Eleven pulled back and groaned. "That’s even more than I make a month. Alto I’m sorry but unless you have a secret stash of money we can’t enjoy pricey food." He looked back to see that Alto was gone, the boy he was supposed to watch and guide was nowhere to be seen. "Shit, I lost him." Eleven did not panic but instead sniffed the air around him for a brief while before frowning and saying. "I can’t even track him here, there are too many people running around." He had one job and he blew it. Eleven darted back into the crowd with inhumane speed in search for Alto.

Alto walked down the side of the road with the young woman still holding on to him, he looked at the way she walked and carried herself. Her steps were not too fast neither was it too slow, it had a synchronised pattern that seemed more practiced than by nature. "I have to get going now, I’m actually looking for a friend."

She leaned over and rested her head on his shoulder, "It’s annoying when people act so high and mighty when they are worth nothing. You could be the face of mech designing tomorrow and no one cares about that, many people rarely think about the future."

Alto’s heart softened a little, he could sense her gentle nature, it was like a feeling of understanding they both shared in that short moment. "Was that you this time?"

She snorted before a laugh escaped her lungs, "No, that was another cartoon. Now look at what you made me do, a lady must not make such vile sounds."

Alto chuckled lightly and said, "You seem to be enjoying yourself though, a bit too much if I might say." Now Alto was a little worried, did people just cling on to others in a city such as this and just become good friends.

"Sorry, I apologize for overstepping my boundaries but they would have robbed you if it wasn’t for me." The young woman said, still learning to his shoulder.

Alto looked back over his shoulder slightly to see the beautiful city, with its dark alleyways and hiding within were figures that did not look friendly. He was a bit shocked to see such a sight on a dignified planet that was supposed to be patrolled by security forces but even more by the fact that she was prote ting him all the time. "Thank you, I didn’t notice."

"Who notices a bunch of swagger criminals jumping them in an animated world?" She said in a savvy manner.

Alto raised an eyebrows clearly perplexed now, what did the words "swagger" and "animated" have to do with anything? "My name’s Alto, I’m here for the competition which I guess you are too."

She smiled, "I am, and you shouldn’t just give away your name to just about anyone just because they are nice to you. And I’m Priscilla."

Alto noticed that she gripped tighter to him as she spoke. "Are you alright?"

She looked up at him and they both stopped, he could feel the hot air from her nostrils reaching his face. She had this fragrance of a spring flower from whatever perfume she was using. He could see her eyes trembling like she was about to burst into tears but what she said shocked him, "You have such kind eyes."

Those words triggered something in him, Amy was one of the only people who had said those words to him. Priscilla continued, "Sorry, I have autophobia. I know it’s silly but it’s the fear of being alone, it caused me to go into panic attacks or have trouble breathing."

"That’s a first." Alto thought to himself. "Is there anything I can do to help?" He asked her but was supposed to heat her response.

"No unless you can find my friends." She said with a light smile.

Alto’s face went white. "Don’t tell me you’re also lost."
