The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 77: Banquet (4)
Chapter 77: Banquet (4)
Arren was calm on the surface, but he was already screaming inside: "I didn’t want to date anyone, much less your grandson. I already have a boyfriend, he is there watching all this unfold."
However, he couldn’t say that directly to his face. Everyone’s gazes focused on him, waiting for his answer. It wasn’t exaggerated to say that each of them wanted to know the opinion of this beautiful omega and if they had a chance as well to refer their sons or grandson.
He wanted to cuss out loud, and he had to answer even if he didn’t want to. And as he was opening his mouth and forming words to refuse Duke Merphen, the alpha in the head seat interrupted with his dominating voice, saving Arren.
"Now, I’m also interested in the answer." Just Spade’s voice alone made everyone at the table shift their heads away from Arren and look at the emperor. Even Arren became confused and stared at the alpha. What was he saying?
Spade smiled, and what he said next was like a bomb that exploded in the minds of the people present.
"How about I refer myself as well? What do you think of me... Arren?" The alpha asked lightly; it sounded like a joke even with a grin on his face. However, no one actually laughed, and even Arren was stumped.
Sure, it could be considered a joke by a monarch who was only participating in the discussion. And yet, no one knew if the Emperor was serious or only kidding. It was because, thinking from another perspective, it wasn’t impossible at all!
Spade didn’t have an Empress, and Arren in both gender and status—or even just his appearance alone—was far above anyone else’s candidate in the Empire.
Everyone suddenly became silent at the table, and the atmosphere turned awkward in an instant. Even Duke Merphen had to shut his mouth and was embarrassed.
Arren looked at the alpha, who didn’t leave his gaze off him; he didn’t know what he was thinking! Was he saving him from Duke Merphen earlier but giving him another hot seat? However, this time, it was hotter!
His father held his back gently and laughed.
"Son, why don’t you answer? His Majesty is asking you." To everyone, what Duke Evan was doing was saving his treasured son from the awkward situation, but for Arren, his father was only supporting Spade and making fun of him!
While grumbling inside, Arren had to answer this time. Fortunately, since it was Spade who asked him, he wasn’t that pressured to answer. And why couldn’t he respond to the alpha’s teasing?
Arren wore a flustered expression on his face, as if Spade’s question to him had put him in a hard situation. He even slightly lowered his head in the alpha’s direction.
"I’m sorry, Your Majesty, that I can’t answer that question," Arren spoke, his voice low; he appeared truly sorry for it. Anyone at the table that didn’t know him felt rather apologetic that they had put the young omega in such an awkward situation.
However, Spade and even Duke Evan became aware that Arren was only acting at this moment. The Duke was forced to maintain his expression while amusement gradually glowed in Spade’s eyes.
"Hmm? How come you can’t answer my question?" The alpha raised his brow and asked, his voice sounding a bit playful in Arren’s ears.
Arren clenched his teeth slightly, trying hard not to smile, and he continued. He lifted his head and looked the Emperor in the eyes. Undoubtedly, it was a sincere and brave thing for him to be firm in his answer in front of the monarch himself.
"Your Majesty, I can’t answer your question because I don’t want to betray my lover. I don’t want to date anyone other than him. So, I’m sorry, Your Majesty, that I refused to answer your question." Arren bravely revealed his reason, as if it were okay to offend the Emperor as long as he didn’t betray his lover.
Understanding soon dawned on everyone. So, the beautiful omega already had an alpha! Various thoughts began to emerge in the old nobles’ minds, such as who was the fortunate alpha, that it was a pity it wasn’t their sons, and even some were still optimistic as the omega wasn’t officially engaged yet, so they still had a chance until then.
However, the one who got the most impact from what he said was Spade himself. He was already anticipating what Arren would say, as it was obvious he had something mischievous in his mind. And yet, even he didn’t expect that his omega would answer him like this.
One reason he interrupted Duke Merphen was that he didn’t want anyone coveting his omega in front of him; it leave a bad taste in his mouth. And the other was, he was slowly making his relationship with Arren known, so he intended to interact with the omega in this banquet, and ignoring Arren throughout this night to make it seem like they didn’t have anything to do with each other was never in his mind from the start.
A smile appeared on his lips, and the delighted glow of his eyes couldn’t be concealed. He nodded, as if brushing off the topic lightly.
"Is that so? You don’t need to apologize for that. However, I must say, whoever your lover is, he is truly lucky to have you." Spade responded, his tone soft; paired with his smile, it was a bit out of place for someone who was refused. In an instant, the seed has been successfully planted.
Arren’s cheeks heated up, and he was feeling giddy inside. Everyone might not know the true meaning of these words, but how couldn’t he? Suddenly, he had a thought. Did they just subtly flirt in front of these old nobles? Now, that was a true level-up.
And with that, the matter with Arren stopped, although temporarily, as with their unusual interaction, which those old foxes would already have guessed on their own.
Arren still stood beside his father, and then gradually some of the old nobles at the table began to leave. It was either to the dance floor or to talk with other nobles at another table. Even Duke Merphen left and excused himself. Until, there were only six left at the table. Spade, Mother Empress Liviera, his father, Duke Ellis, and his wife, and then Arren.
The dance floor was already bustling; however, this part of the banquet hall remained undisturbed. Arren was thinking about whether to excuse himself as well, but his father was still there and no one was dismissing him, so he stood at the side obediently.
Mother Empress Liviera smiled at him and was about to say anything when three people approached the table.
"I pay my respects to His Majesty," a baritone yet gentle voice that would elicit kind impressions resounded, greeting Spade.
"His Majesty, it’s been a long time." A sweet voice of an elderly woman followed.
As he shifted his gaze and looked at the newcomers. He couldn’t properly recognize them, and he didn’t want to stare too much either, so as soon as he caught sight of Levin, he already had a guess.
They might be Princess Noreen and Marquis Laurent Ford, Levin’s parents. As a member of the royal family, the Princess deserved to sit at this table. But as she was already the wife of the marquis, she needed to sit with him at the table of the marquises. She was married off to the marquis rather than the other way around, so Marquis Laurent wasn’t an official princess consort.
Arren gave them a slight glance, and he might remember some things or at least register them in his mind. However, for some reason, as he was looking at them, his brows knit, and he suddenly got dizzy.
