Chapter 49: Scenting and His Excellency

Arren opened his mouth and spoke, "I see," he grinned further, tone low, and his body shifted a little forward as his eyes sparkled, bewitching the alpha in front of him. "So, Your Majesty, why do you summon this humble subject of yours?" he asked, a naughty tone not escaping his ears. In an instant, Arren changed the subject from Rave. He didn’t have time for that, especially not with his hot alpha in front of him.

The alpha’s amber eyes flickered as he enjoyed the omega’s mischievous antics. Spade then moved his body forward slightly in response to Arren’s game. He clasped his hand in front of him.

"I thought you wouldn’t agree because you didn’t seem to like this place that much," Spade probed, a small grin curling on his lips. As he stared at the omega, his eyes glinted.

Arren’s smile faded, he hadn’t expected Spade to bring this up, and a slight blush painted his cheeks. He didn’t avert his gaze, instead asking, "Did you investigate me?" as he squinted his eyes at the alpha.

Spade’s face fell, and he quickly explained, "I had to investigate because of the situation," his tone a little low and cautious. It was the truth. Spade only noticed when he was looking into Arren’s case and wasn’t looking into him on purpose.

After a few seconds, Arren was still silent, staring absentmindedly at the teacup.

"Are you upset?" Spade asked again, his tone soft as if coaxing Arren. Spade became concerned as Arren continued to look down.

Arren lifted his head and stared at the alpha with a slightly surprised expression as Spade stood up from his seat. The alpha only looked at him, and under Arren’s surprised gaze, Spade closed the gap between them to within a step of Arren. Then take a seat beside him. Their locked gaze did not even pause for a second.

"You..." Arren only said one word, as Spade’s actions surprised him. Even the fact that they were only at arm’s length did not register with him.

The alpha looked at him intently as if reading him. Arren was an open book, and his expression couldn’t conceal it.

"Are you upset that I investigated you?" Spade repeated himself, his eyes fixed, tone soft.

Arren’s lips parted as he awoke from his thoughts. Spade’s handsome face being so close to him, still never failed to affect him. He finally responded after a long silence.

"I’m not upset," Arren stated flatly. He wasn’t upset, just embarrassed. As he thought of Spade, knowing how he foolishly escaped from reality before was already making his ears a little hot.

He really did appear to be allergic in the palace before. Even if Spade didn’t look into it, he’d find out about it eventually. Arren was so well-known that he could easily hear about it in rumors.

He couldn’t respond quickly because of it, and he was now too stunned to think again. Spade was an excellent distraction from his thoughts.

Spade nodded, confirming Arren’s words.

"Then why aren’t you saying anything?" he asked again, his deep tone music to Arren’s ears. Those ASMR sounds were incomparable.

Arren quickly recovered, and his lively expression returned. When Spade saw this, his face seemed to lighten, and he felt relieved.

"I just... I think it’s unfair," Arren grumbled as their gazes locked.

Spade nodded, "Uh huh? Why is that?" His expression was patient as he listened intently to what Arren was saying, even though Arren was obviously spouting nonsense.

"You already knew that about me," Arren said, "and other than your status, I don’t know anything about you."

"What do you want to know? You can ask me," Spade agreed, already indulging Arren’s antics.

Arren’s sweet smile appeared on his lips, and his lively expression was enough for Spade to spoil him even more. Arren moved closer to Spade, their knees touching.

"It’s unfair. You already smell my pheromones," he said, implying something.

It was clear, and Spade knew right away what Arren meant. His eyebrows went up, and he gave a small smile.

"Would you like to know what my pheromone smells like?"

Arren nodded, a little shy because scenting was reserved for couples. However, they didn’t have a label but they somehow were a couple already. There was nothing wrong with it. He was convinced in his heart, and a giddy emotion tickled him.

Spade’s smile widened as he noticed his flustered appearance. He nodded, "You can..." a playful glint flashed in his amber eyes, and he added, "How about you remove my scent inhibitor?" His suggestive smile stunned Arren, his lips parted, and his ears flushed even more.

Arren became even more ecstatic. In the first place, he wasn’t easily embarrassed and he always accepted challenges, so he enthusiastically nodded to the alpha. Spade’s eyes glowed with even more interest as he raised one hand and showed it to Arren.

Arren focused his attention on his hand, more specifically on the bracelet he was wearing. A scent inhibitor device. It wasn’t that different from scent patches, but it was more expensive.

He then lifted his head and looked at Spade, who only nodded encouragingly. Arren’s heartbeats quickened as he licked his lips. He touched the bracelet while holding Spade’s hand.

"Go on," Spade spoke again, his deep voice encouraging him. He took another look at him, and Spade was still staring at him. He nodded and slowly removed the scent inhibitor.

Not even a few minutes later, the entire room was enveloped in a strong and musky scent. The dominant pheromones enveloped Arren; this was still Spade, not intentionally spreading his pheromones. He only slightly surrounded Arren so the omega could clearly scent him.

Arren swallowed some spit, breathed, and the enticing scent assaulted his nose. Fortunately, he had only recently shot some suppressants, and Spade was also suppressing the intensity, or he would have had to deal with an unexpected heat once more.

Speaking of heat, Arren’s senses were memorizing Spade’s pheromones, a memory surface, and as though a deja vu clicked on Arren. Arren’s eyes widened as he recognized the pheromones. Instantly glancing at Spade, a doubtful look appeared in his eyes.

This pheromone... He recalled that night. "You...?" Arren couldn’t form words; he was too stunned to speak. Spade nodded and smiled playfully as if he was enjoying his expression.

"An omega, huh?" said a deep and calm voice.

"Yes, Your Excellency. The Emperor appeared to have already chosen his omega. However, we haven’t discovered the identity of the omega because His Majesty’s side is too guarded, and our men couldn’t gather much information." The man standing by his side responded. His voice was low, as if he didn’t want to break the silence.

The man then hummed, his brows furrowed, and finally laughed.

"It seemed His Majesty was quite serious this time, considering how he protected the identity of the omega." The deep voice came to a halt, and the man standing to the side only bowed and did not interrupt. "Hmm..." He set the concave cutter down to admire his work. "What about our chips in the palace?" he asked after a while.

"I apologize, Your Excellency; they are not exposed to the information either." The man bowed deeply once more.

The man known as Excellency only laughed again as if he didn’t care. After a while, began cutting branches again. He then continued, "That Amos... tell him to hurry up. I’m not that patient."

"Yes, Your Excellency," the man replied before leaving the room. freёwebnoѵel.com
