The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 234: Before Another Wave (2)
Chapter 234: Before Another Wave (2)
Arren strolled cautiously to the monitor room. He always tried to be sensitive and never flirted with the alpha in front of his subordinates too much. Everyone recognized him, but that was all the more reason to behave.
All of them had been working hard with little to no rest since the war started, so he tried to be as sensitive as possible. If only he could cook for everyone as well, he would. But that wasn’t something in line with his status, so Arren didn’t have any opportunity to do that.
When he opened the door of the room, Arren didn’t immediately go inside but peered slightly into what was happening inside, finding out if it was fine to enter and if he wasn’t bothering anything.
But the moment that he did, Arren was unable to see anything as his vision was blocked by someone’s chest. He stopped and slowly lifted his head, instantly making eye contact with those intimidating amber eyes, which had a soft touch whenever they gazed at him.
"How come..." Arren was stunned. Why was Spade already waiting for him at the door? Did he sense that he had arrived already?
At his obvious stunned expression, Spade’s eyes flashed with apparent amusement. Even his tense muscles relaxed at the sight of the omega.
The corner of his lips lifted as he touched Arren’s cheek. Spade suddenly had the thought to mess with him, seeing Arren’s adorable expression. "Hmm, I felt that you were coming."
Spade could already discern what Arren was amazed at by only looking at his face.
Arren’s eyes widened, but then he narrowed his eyes and stared at Spade, unconvinced. "Is that true?" If so, that was another higher-level sense of connection.
The alpha chuckled and pinched his cheeks, and Arren dramatically grumbled. "That hurts," he said as he pouted, but there wasn’t really any forced feeling; he was only acting cute.
Of course, the alpha knew that, and he still played along with Arren’s antics as he always did. He rubbed Arren’s cheek that he just pinched while also making use of that opportunity to encircle Arren’s waist with his other hand, pulling him closer.
"Sorry," Spade apologized in his deep tone that always sent undeniable attractiveness deep within Arren. Aware of this, the alpha leaned closer and gave Arren’s cheek a peck for a second. With a trace of a smile, he then lifted and met Arren’s flustered appearance; there was some faint blush on his cheeks.
Spade’s smile widened, not leaving his gaze off Arren’s eyes."That should be enough to show my sincerity?"
Arren’s jaw parted slightly; not only was his face heating up, but his ears through his neck had a trace of crimson. He bit his lips and pinched Spade’s waist, and he couldn’t help but bury his face in the alpha’s chest.
No matter how, then or now, Spade never failed to make him blush when he suddenly flirted with him. The alpha’s effect on him had never faded, and he knew it would never fade.
"What’s with you?" Arren spoke in a hushed tone that only Spade could hear, but it also had a tinge of being coquettish in his voice. Together with how he looked extremely soft in the alpha’s arms.
If only Arren knew how much he also affected Spade. Spade, with a smile on his lips, embraced him. This time, he didn’t tease Arren anymore and spoke the truth to him.
"It’s almost lunch, and I thought of meeting you in the next room," Spade explained.
It was only a coincidence that Arren also happened to arrive at the moment Spade was about to open the door to leave. Arren could guess as much, but he was still amazed nonetheless. When he withdrew, his eyes subconsciously shifted to the side, and he only realized that they were still standing at the door, so there was a high probability that some people inside witnessed them!
He glared at Spade. He wanted to always look presentable, at least to his subordinates. Spade was unbothered, and without looking at the subordinates inside, he had already left with Arren to eat lunch.
In any case, their jobs in the palace were only to monitor the development of the war. Only those on the frontlines were truly busy in the war while risking their lives.
As always, both ate lunch together. While eating, Arren already had the habit of asking Spade or just talking about anything. Noble dining etiquette be damned, Spade didn’t care either and answered him every time.
Sitting next to each other, Arren started their dining conversation.
"How is the situation on the frontlines?" Arren inquired. It wasn’t that he was ruining the moment, but it was something he had to ask as much as possible. Sharing the alpha’s burdens could also mean wanting to involve himself in the situation.
Spade paused for a moment, hearing some worries in his tone. The Alpha reached out and touched Arren’s hand. "It’s not getting worse. As there are hundreds of thousands of civilians inside the city, the military can’t become aggressive just yet. At most, there are small skirmishes at the borders."
While it was not getting worse, it was not getting better either. Currently, the military and the person in charge who was tasked with the mission are still planning the tactics they will use in this war.
The Empire already forced the small neighboring country neighboring them to not let any suspicious personnel get in their border, but with how things were going, it seemed the country had long been in cahoots with the organization.
At the moment, both sides were still in a stalemate. But this was also in favor of the organization in the long run, so they had to quickly move. However, that was a decision that had to be made by the professionals, while Spade only needed to supervise on the side as the monarch.
Arren fell silent as he sighed inside. Although he already anticipated that this war would not end immediately but would most likely be a prolonged war or something even more terrible in the future, it was still a horrible situation to be in.
"How about you?" Spade looked him in the eye. "You don’t need to rush; make sure you’re ready to proceed."
Arren was aware that this was also something Spade was worried about; with the war still, in a stalemate, Arren’s condition was something he was most concerned about.
"Of course, I know that." He squeezed Spade’s hand to assure him. "I won’t be hasty since I know how dangerous this is."
With a deep look, Spade seemed to be reassured for now, and they continued eating for some time.
"Spade." After a while, he called Spade again. His gaze was still fixed on his plate and the food that he had just finished.
"What is it?" Arren sensed Spade’s gaze boring into him. He licked his lips and lifted his head so that he could meet the alpha’s eyes.
He knew from talking with Ms. M these past few days, he needed to really open up more. It would also help him prepare when they started the session.
"Why are you not asking me?" Arren asked, curious. He knew the alpha trusted him and that he loved him, but was it enough to just blindly trust someone?
Well, he was speaking like this, but he was also someone who would trust someone wholeheartedly just because he loved him.
"What do you want me to ask you?" The alpha calmly returned a question.
Arren subconsciously played with the food on his plate, but he didn’t break eye contact with Spade. Despite being anxious inside, he continued. He believed that the alpha would not judge him, and he still hoped for that.
"Aren’t you curious how I have these dreams or trauma?" Arren was really curious; the alpha must have his questions as well, right? They both didn’t address this before because they thought it wasn’t time yet.
At this moment, both had some confidence in their relationship. Even with some reservations inside. Whenever he thought of the alpha and his sincere eyes and affection for him, Arren would throw out all his negativity immediately.
"I’m someone sheltered by my father since I was young. My status is high enough so no one can simply get close to me." Arren was slowly giving him hints, and letting the stage come together. This probably flashed across Spade’s mind at some point.
What he said all made sense—how come Arren Katz, known in the capital as the spoiled child of the Duke, could possibly have had terrifying trauma that even Ms. M of Black Intel didn’t dare hastily touch?
How come he had a trauma with Princess Coreen when he had never seen him before? Even for Arren, it was hard to believe at first.
When Arren thought Spade would be surprised by his question and start asking him, none of this happened. Instead, he seemed unfazed and smiled calmly.
There was something in his eyes; it was a kind of light that almost closed to his conjectures but still left a few more pieces of evidence. Still, his calm demeanor made Arren confused.
Until Spade spoke, stunning Arren with his words as he widened his eyes in disbelief.
"Didn’t you ask me before if I believe in reincarnation?" With a knowing smile on his lips, he touched Arren’s cheek. "I believe it’s real."
But this is far more than just a reincarnation, Spade thought inside.
