Chapter 231: Wins and Losses (4)

Ordinary civilians didn’t know that the mastermind of the chaos had passed by like it was nothing. Some of the higher-ranking royal guards in the crowd that were aware all gripped their guns, but they couldn’t do without order and stood in their positions. freewebnoveℓ.com

As if mocking them, the convoy deliberately slowed down right at the gate, provoking them to do something they knew they couldn’t. Like Spade said, they were all tied down by their own people.

Levin woke up from the daze and chased his father’s car with his eyes. And as he watched the car that was soon about to disappear from his vision, unknowingly, the last barrier of hesitation in his heart shattered.

His father was... a demon.

What they talked about was all heard by Spade through the communication device. He also had the same expression as Levin when the Marquis told him that Princess Coreen was not with him.

Spade’s eyes flashed with an ominous glint, watching the car that was about to leave the capital expressionlessly.

The Marquis was calm on the surface, but he still had some urgency in his heart. Once their car left the gate and trailed the deserted highway, he made an order to hurry up.

He never underestimated Spade, and the sun being calm about his appearance was a dangerous omen. They had to leave the empire as soon as possible. He did have some cards with him, but unless it was truly necessary, he would never use them.

Like Spade, his preparations were not done. Something was still missing, and one of the big pieces of their plans. The Marquis clasped his hand; it gave the impression that he wanted to hold something or someone.

And it was indeed the case as an image flashed across his mind, and a kind of greed, anticipation, and insanity soon filled his eyes.

I only need him. That omega, once I get him, all my plans will be completed.

"Arren..." The Marquis muttered the name with intense longing, enough to send shivers down Arren’s spine if he heard it.

As Ariel’s son, this was his destiny.

Yet, amidst the seemingly peaceful silence, the marquis was forced to interrupt his thoughts as a huge explosion erupted from the front. Soon, gunfire also bombarded their convoy.

"Ambush! Protect His Excellency!" A voice that confirmed his thoughts sounded, and their car momentarily stopped before accelerating, planning to escape their predicament.

The cars in front gave way as they stopped and responded to gunfire from the one that ambushed them. The Marquis, even with how dangerous the situation was, didn’t speak and only watched from the sidelines, as though he was not a participant in this scenario.

But if one could look at his hand, which was gripping the corner of his seat, then they might say otherwise.

"I accept your gift, Your Majesty." The Marquis spoke in a hushed tone, but the emphasized anger couldn’t be overlooked.

How could their convoy escape that easily? Another explosion soon followed, as though they didn’t care much about the damage that it would cause just to intercept and cause considerable damage to the organization’s party.

Fortunately, because of Spade’s advisory, there weren’t any civilian cars around except those only waiting at the entrance earlier. The convoy of five easily became three; the scorched elite agents screamed but were all futile as they were shot down by the empire’s forces.

Gritting his teeth, the driver shouted, "Hang on, our reinforcements are on their way."

It was as though that time at the Moonlight Festival had happened again, but this time the role was reversed. The two other cars made their way and protected the car, which the Marquis held and forced to give them an opportunity to escape long enough until the reinforcements arrived.

The West National Road had become a battlefield, and the three cars were chased while being bombarded by gunshots. Once they were in one of the tunnels, the elite forces were also blocking the road, and they couldn’t get through. But the Western part was true to its name as the land of mountains and tunnels.

Although they also took great advantage of the empire’s forces for an ambush, the Marquis’s forces also took advantage of it. As though the years that they traveled sneakily to these mountains were not in vain, they managed to get past many obstacles that were made against them.

But all good things were destined to come to an end. They were now close to Ford’s domain and not far from the borders of the neighboring country.

The Marquis, although he still looked presentable, couldn’t manage to keep his calm expression and demeanor, as they were all replaced with coldness.

Since earlier, they were chased and ambushed recklessly, and if they weren’t familiar with the road, they were all dead by now. He never thought he would be in this helpless situation, fighting for his life like a pathetic fool. The Marquis never suffered such humiliation in his life.

His fiery gaze was filled with resentment, and when he thought of someone who might be watching what was happening, his blood boiled even more. They were at the end of their straw, and the agents in the other cars all shouted, "For His Excellency!"

And their car accelerated and hit the car blockade inside, but their bodies, which were all conditioned by various drugs of the organization, had a significant amount of strength. With their bodies soaked with blood, they managed to exchange gunshots with the royal guards, taking down a few, just enough for the Marquis’s car to get through.

Unlike the suicide agents, these were all the elite agents of the organization, so even the Marquis, who thought all of his subordinates were all his pawns, still felt his heart bleed. They were all cultivated by his father for years, and they were really a big loss for the organization.

Seeing all of them slowly die before him made him furious to the extreme. Clenching his hands, his eyes, which were almost seeing red, spoke low but with gritted teeth. "Spade!" This time, he didn’t even call Spade by his title but only by his name, as though cursing him.

Spade, who was at the place watching the successful ambush to the point they made the Marquis; forces desperate, didn’t have a slight sense of satisfaction or happiness in his heart as he watched expressionlessly.

While his chin rested on his hand and his legs were crossed, his brow lifted. He might not be fully satisfied, but the corner of his lips still arched up. It’s not enough; soon...

Their first plan was for the marquis to be intercepted, but after knowing his aunt wasn’t on the convoy, Spade didn’t have any concerns anymore and let his forces become bolder.

As the fight had come to the borders of Ford’s domain, with only The Marquis’ unrecognizable van remaining from the then five-car convoy, Spade’s slight smile faded.

His eyes narrowed, and he spoke just in time as the reinforcement of the Marquis arrived. His cold and oppressive gaze lingered on the reinforcements.

"Heh, just as I thought, the Ford domain... is now a rebel city."

As instructed, the forces giving chase to the Marquis all halted outside of the city. The Ford Domain was completely in the organization’s hands and became their foothold in the empire. That was one of the reports from the black Intel agents, and the blockade in the city was stricter than in the capital.

Most of the organization’s agents and forces were now deployed to engage, a true next battlefield.

"Call in the military for an emergency meeting tomorrow," Spade coldly stated as he shifted his gaze, unsurprised that the Marquis survived his attack.

He then looked at the red dot that represented the Ford Domain on the map. There was no way Spade would let them hold it forever. Soon, it would return to his empire.

For now, the first opening of the war has come to an end. The aftermath was waiting for them the next day. Spade stood, fixed his royal suit, and spoke solemnly, "Tell Serrien. Tomorrow I’ll make a public appearance and talk to my people."

Even if he couldn’t stop the sacrifice, the least he could do was give his people the explanation they deserved. Spade had managed to keep his composed expression until he was in the silent hallways a few distances from his room. He stopped and leaned on the door as though all his strength had left him.

Spade lowered his head and exhaled dejectedly. For the next few minutes, the alpha stood silently in the darkness.

The alpha was in this position when Arren arrived. The palace, which was gloomier than usual, seemed to merge into the alpha’s figure. Arren stopped in his tracks; he watched Spade but also shared the pain that his alpha was going through.

There was a lot on his mind after his talk with Ms. M, and he had a lot of things to consider before coming to a conclusion for his answer. However, all of these had to be set aside.

Perhaps because of the atmosphere and the heavy feeling that tormented him, the alpha didn’t sense his arrival, and it was only after Arren had already embraced him tightly that Spade reacted.

"Arren?" the alpha called.

Arren only hummed, and hugged Spade tighter, rubbing his face in the alpha’s chest.

It only took a moment as Spade buried his face in the omega’s neck and he hugged Arren tighter, sniffing his pheromones to calm him down as though the omega was the salvation he needed.

In fact, he was. The moment Arren arrived, the Omega immediately pulled him back on the ground, keeping him in place so he wouldn’t lose himself.
