Chapter 91: Guests in the Demon King’s Palace

But Anos, upon hearing those words, had only one thought.

Oh no, Ke’Oth and N’zall are doomed. Sebastian really is the one demon in the entire Demon Realm you absolutely cannot mess with.

To the two poor demons, those words sounded a lot like, "You’ll be sharked tonight."

Help. Is today a bad day to return to the Demon Realm?

With their own thoughts weighing heavily, the three exchanged a smile and tacitly turned their heads to look elsewhere.

Anos felt that things couldn’t go on like this. After all, there were guests in the Demon King’s palace.

Yes, there were guests.

Anos suddenly realized this with a jolt.

So he had just left the guest standing there this entire time?

This wasn’t acceptable.

Just as Anos began to panic, unsure of what to say, Illiya—like he had guessed what Anos was about to bring up—offered a graceful way out.

"Your Majesty, although this might be a bit late, I still want to say it," Illiya said with a smile in his voice. "It’s a pleasure to be here in the Demon Realm."

Anos quickly followed his lead. "I’m just as pleased to meet an elf. You know, elves are even rarer than demons."

Illiya blinked and returned the smile.

Indeed, elves were harder to find than demons.

Demons didn’t like to leave the Demon Realm, but elves didn’t like to leave the Elven Forest either. At least demons had the fifty-year war pact that forced them to go out once in a while. But elves? They had absolutely no reason to go anywhere and were perfectly content to stay holed up in the forest.

So yes, elves were even rarer than demons.

Seeing that the diplomatic exchange could continue, Anos finally let out a sigh of relief.

"Welcome to the Demon Realm. It’s very different now from how it used to be."

After being led into the palace, Illiya and his party were escorted by a group of demon attendants—who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere—to their well-prepared guest rooms.

Each person had their own room, very reasonably arranged.

After showing them to their rooms, the demon attendants bowed and prepared to take their leave.

"Please rest for a while. The banquet will begin in the afternoon. Someone will come to escort you there later."

With that, the demon attendant turned and left.

The moment they were gone, Illiya’s tightly wound body finally relaxed.

The calm and carefree demeanor from before had been completely faked. With countless eyes watching them from the shadows, how could anyone truly feel at ease?

"Everyone, go rest for a bit. That really was hard on us all just now."

Although Seoryun, Darius, and Drow hadn’t said much during the whole ordeal, none of them were ordinary people. Their sharp senses certainly hadn’t missed the veiled stares from all around.

Seoryun nodded helplessly. "This is the Demon King’s palace after all. Of course security would be tight."

Darius nodded in agreement.

Just as Illiya was parting ways with the others to head to his room, someone gently tugged on his sleeve from behind.

He turned to look—it was Drow.

Illiya didn’t know why Drow suddenly stopped him. Drow had been acting strangely all day. Or rather, he had started acting odd the moment they met the demons. The most obvious change was his growing silence. If no one spoke to him directly, he wouldn’t say a word.

Drow kept his head lowered, avoiding Illiya’s gaze—or maybe, he just didn’t dare to meet Illiya’s eyes.

He seemed to ponder for a long time before finally voicing the words he’d been holding back since the moment he reunited with Illiya.

"Illiya," he said softly, "Can you stop interacting with the demons... especially the Demon King."

Drow struggled deeply before finally making this decision and spoke the words in his mind to Illiya.

It wasn’t that the Demon King was bad in any way—rather, it was precisely because the Demon King was too good that some things that should never have existed continued to survive.

Those things couldn’t bring themselves to harm the Demon King, so everyone else ended up suffering instead. The ones who bore the brunt first were the Light Elves who are investigating the "Corruption." Although the damage they suffered wasn’t catastrophic in the end, it still came at a great cost.

Even after living through a second chance at life, Drow remembered clearly how Illiya was covered in blood, supported by him, yet Illiya was powerless. He could only helplessly watch as Illiya paid an enormous price to seal away the "Corruption."

The consequence of overexerting himself was that from that moment on, Illiya never left the Elven Forest again. His body had become fragile, and he had to rely on the Elven spring water just to barely maintain his health.

Drow did not want to witness a scene like that ever again.

His hands that was resting tightly at his sides, clenched unconsciously so hard that crescent moon shapes were imprinted in his palms, with faint red blood vessels showing around them. His eyes that was usually as dark as ink, began to darken with a grim intensity under the weight of his emotions, and his pupils narrowed sharply.

Although his body’s subconscious actions reflected his inner turmoil, Drow made sure not to reveal even the slightest hint of negative emotion in front of Illiya. He didn’t want Illiya to realize that he was, in the common sense, a "Dark Elf."

So after saying those words, Drow didn’t dare look at Illiya’s expression, nor did he allow himself to think or imagine what Illiya might say or do next.

His cowardly thoughts had to remain buried forever in the dark trash bin of his mind. How could he expose them all under the light?

The seconds ticked by, and although not much time had truly passed, Drow felt as if he had been waiting for a long, agonizing stretch—as if being slowly tormented.
