The Elf Journey In The Western Fantasy World-Chapter 68: Midnight Discoveries
Chapter 68: Midnight Discoveries
Illiya scribbled down a large number of notes, some useful, some not.
Looking at the densely packed words on the pages, he let out a nearly inaudible sigh.
There were so many parts he couldn’t make sense of—most of the conclusions he’d written were based on assumptions. Some questions could only be answered after reaching the demons’ territory.
Why did the road ahead feel so endless?
In another room.
Like Illiya, Seoryun had returned to his room and fallen into deep thought, pondering the current situation on the continent.
Although the various races across the continent had formed an allied force to crusade against the demons, everyone knew the real reason—wasn’t it simply to seize the reparations after defeating the demons? freeωebnovēl.c૦m
As if no one could see through that.
Everyone on the continent knew that the people of the Yaguk Theocracy harbored an intense hatred for demons.
However, people like Seoryun, who knew a bit of the inside story, held nothing but contempt for their self-righteous facade.
And wasn’t the dispatch of the Royal Knights this time precisely because there was something to gain? Who knew what kind of information the people of the Yaguk Theocracy had caught wind of early from their spies?
Thinking of this, Seoryun couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic laugh.
Did they really think the demons knew nothing? It wasn’t ignorance—the demons simply couldn’t be bothered with these things. With no Demon King present, the demons were naturally scattered like loose sand. Who had time to care about a bunch of clowns?
But now things were different. There might be a new king rising among the demons. And in that case, who could be sure that the "spies" returning with news were actually their spies?
Naturally, that meant the information could also be false.
Who the real clown was—that was yet to be determined.
After all those strange and twisted thoughts, Seoryun felt that just sitting around wasn’t going to cut it.
He needed to go do something—like investigate this city and verify whether their suspicions were correct.
With that decision made, Seoryun got ready to sneak out through the window. As for the front door...
Who in their right mind would use the front door?
Just as he placed one foot on the windowsill, he came face-to-face with someone from the next room who was also trying to sneak out the window.
When he saw who it was, his expression twisted into something indescribably weird.
"Ah, what a coincidence. Darius, are you also going out for a walk?" Seoryun greeted him with polite small talk.
Darius from the next room was just as speechless. It’s not like he could predict the future—how was he supposed to know that the one time he tried to sneak out, he’d run into his former boss?
What could Darius do?
He forced a smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes. "Hahaha, what a coincidence indeed. I was just heading out for a stroll."
Seoryun: "...."
He tentatively asked, "...Do you want to go together?"
Darius: "...Sure, let’s go together."
As soon as the words left their mouths, the two of them exchanged a bitter smile and fell into silence, each hiding their real thoughts.
Let’s just say they were both feeling a little lonely in the middle of the night and wanted some fresh air.
Illiya never carried yesterday’s frustrations into the next day. When the clock struck midnight, he went to bed as usual.
Although the previous night’s troubles had nearly driven him up the wall, he still managed to sleep soundly.
When he got up the next morning, there were no dark circles under his eyes, and he looked full of energy, as if he had never been troubled at all.
After tidying himself up, Illiya was ready to head out and find his friends—and maybe grab some breakfast along the way.
But the moment he opened the door, he was startled by the person standing right outside.
Standing there was none other than Seoryun. But his condition could hardly be called good—he looked like he was just one step away from collapsing.
The dark shadows ringed Seoryun’s eyes, bloodshot veins laced his eyeballs, and his face was haggard. His lips were pale and dry, even peeling in places.
"You... what happened?" Illiya asked, cautiously calming his startled nerves.
Seoryun furrowed his brows and rubbed his temples. He knew he looked terrible. Thinking about it made his face twist with frustration. "I had too many things on my mind last night."
Illiya immediately understood. He had a rough idea why a certain king would show up at his door in such a state.
"I get it. Anyone would be reeling after being hit with such a huge revelation."
Seoryun nodded with a helpless expression, his voice weak. "That’s exactly why I wanted to be locked up instead of doing any work."
"But never mind that. I came to find you because I made a major discovery," Seoryun suddenly lowered his voice. "Don’t think I spent all night just thinking—I actually snuck out with Darius in the middle of the night to investigate this city. And I really did find something. I also now have a solid theory as to why the Yaguk Theocracy sent out their Royal Knights."
Illiya—who had actually just spent the night thinking—felt slightly attacked: Thanks, I guess.
A flicker of awkwardness crossed Illiya’s face when he heard what Seoryun said, but luckily the man in front of him was too distracted to notice.
After adjusting his mindset, Illiya "casually" glanced around to check the surroundings. Seeing no suspicious figures nearby, he naturally brought Seoryun back into his room.
Of course, the door was closed, and the soundproofing magic was cast immediately.
Once the room was properly sealed, Illiya got straight to the point. "Don’t tell me you found traces of demons in this border city of the Nubilian Union?"
That was the only kind of discovery that could keep Seoryun "busy" all night.
