Chapter 101: Too Late to Back Out

"Yes, you said so yourself—you’re not angry."

Eoryun felt like he’d just been struck. He hadn’t expected karma to come so swiftly. Why had he spoken with such calm magnanimity? He should’ve just admitted he’d be mad. Now he didn’t even know if he should be angry or not. If he got angry, it would contradict what he’d just said. But if he didn’t, he’d feel heartbroken.

He was completely torn.

Life was really hard.

Eoryun just wanted to escape from this heartbreaking place.

After hastily thanking the innkeeper, he immediately turned around and left, his hurried steps resembling someone fleeing from a pursuer.

Once the figure disappeared from view, the innkeeper pushed up his glasses again with a dismissive sneer and muttered, "Still young, as expected."

After escaping from that suffocating place, Eoryun gradually calmed down. He began to ponder why his friends had left ahead of schedule.

There must have been something important that required them to leave early, right? They had agreed to stay here for a whole month. Yet only one day had passed—how could they leave so suddenly?

Something urgent must have happened, surely?

The only reason they wouldn’t have had time to inform him would likely be... something related to the demons. But wasn’t there still nearly a month before the passage to the Demon Realm opened? Then what were they doing now? And how did they get to the Demon Realm?

Question after question flooded Illiya’s mind, giving him a headache. The worst part was, he didn’t have a single clue.

It was unbearable.

So what was he supposed to do now? Waiting alone in the city for them to return—absolutely impossible. When had Young Master Eoryun ever been the passive type? Being passive just wasn’t in his nature. That meant he’d have to take the initiative.

But how exactly should he do that...?

"Did you hear? It’s possible to enter the Demon Realm ahead of schedule. Do you guys know about that?"

Just as Eoryun was caught in distress, he suddenly caught wind of a hushed conversation nearby. His eyes lit up instantly.

Remaining motionless, he stood where he was, his face composed as if he were still deep in thought. In reality, he was eavesdropping on the conversation nearby.

"Do you remember that sudden appearance of a well-trained knight order in the city...?"

...

In the Demon King’s Palace.

Illiya had been waiting for a long time, yet no one came to wake him up. Having remained in the same position for ages, his body had gone stiff, and the arm trapped beneath him was completely numb. If no one came soon to toss him a ladder, he’d really be doomed.

Meanwhile, Seoryun and Darius were still engaged in a staring contest, neither of them willing to back down. After all, whoever backed down first would be the one forced to wake the elf with the infamous morning temper.

No one was foolish enough to risk their life like that, so... it was better to make someone else do it!

Coincidentally, both men were thinking exactly the same thing. Each of them hoped the other would carry out this daunting mission.

The atmosphere in the room remained strange—eerily quiet.

Anos was growing increasingly confused. It was almost time for the banquet to start, yet there was no movement from the room where Illiya and the others were staying.

Unable to hold back any longer, he decided to check each room one by one.

He knocked on three doors in a row but received no answer, which puzzled him. When he reached the fourth room—Illiya’s room—he hadn’t even knocked properly yet. The moment his hand touched the door, it creaked open.

Anos: Are you scamming me?!

Since the door was already open, Anos didn’t bother with formalities. He stepped right in. But the moment he put one foot inside, he was stunned by the scene before him. And when he sensed the bizarre atmosphere in the room, he had an intense urge to flee.

But it was already too late.

Because the only people in the room who were "awake" had already turned their gazes on him.

Under their watchful eyes, Anos felt incredibly uncomfortable. He slowly retracted the foot he had stepped in with and very considerately reached out to close the door.

Before leaving, he hesitated and mumbled, "S...sorry for the intrusion."

With that, Anos shut the door. He stood outside, dazed and confused, his mind endlessly looping through the scene he had just witnessed.

A beautiful elf with silver hair was sleeping soundly on the bed. Two humans were standing in the middle of the room, seemingly in a standoff. By all logic, there should have been one more elf, yet he hadn’t seen any trace of one inside. Most importantly, the atmosphere in the room was just too strange. As a non-human, staying in that room had made him extremely uncomfortable.

Reflecting on this, Anos fell silent for a moment. He wasn’t entirely sure—was it that they were too weird, or had it just been too long since he’d last encountered humans?

It was enough to give a demon a headache.

After thinking for a moment, Anos decided that standing outside the door was not a good solution either. After all, he hadn’t come here just to reminisce about the past like some passerby in a nostalgic drama — he had come to tell them to get ready and attend the banquet.

With that realization, Anos finally snapped out of it. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Right — he was here to summon them. Why should he be the one standing outside Shouldn’t the people inside be the ones coming out?

Taking a deep breath, Anos raised his hand and gently pushed the door open once more. The two figures in the room hadn’t moved an inch; even the strange and oppressive atmosphere inside remained exactly the same.

He hadn’t even stepped in yet, and already he felt like backing out again.

The sound of the door opening caught the attention of the two humans locked in their silent standoff. Darius and Seoryun turned their heads sharply toward the entrance, fixing their gazes on the black-haired Demon King standing at the doorway.
