The Demon Lord's Bride (BL)-Chapter 730: Sometimes, you have to ignore the fear of getting smitten
Chapter 730: Sometimes, you have to ignore the fear of getting smitten
"Gaah! Agaah!"
"Ouch--wait! Nava--ouch!"
The smacking sound was relentless, and the Demon God didn’t seem immune to a baby’s tantrum. Both the King and I were surprised, but Natha didn’t seem to be.
Was this why he said it would be fine?
Oh, my petty husband.
"Ugh--ouch--Valen, stop hi--"
"Don’t want to," I scoffed and turned my head away, still holding Shwa tightly. Besides, my baby seemed to have fun, grabbing the Demon God’s hair and shaking his head.
"Ouch--agh--come on, Navardi--"
And if you knew anything about a baby’s grip, you’d know that a considerable force would be needed to unravel it. But would An’Hyang have any heart to force the owner of the soul of the Primordial One? I didn’t think so.
At that moment, my scalp tingled. Glancing to the side, I saw the King move in my peripheral vision. He looked up, tilted his head slightly, and then raised his hand and slid it in the air, as if opening an invisible curtain. At first, I thought he was trying to help An’Hyang somewhat, but then, I felt the air shimmer.
"Agh--why are you dragging me here?! I was having a chat with my--"
Luxera, in a non-golden woman form, was coming out of the invisible portal being pushed by the gardener Mother. They paused, however, when they saw An’Hyang getting hair-pulled and smacked by a baby.
"O-ho?" Luxera covered her parted mouth with her fingers. "Oh, if you told me we were in for a good show, I wouldn’t have been so reluctant, Sis."
Mother blinked, also covering her mouth, but for a different reason. "Valen?"
"I didn’t tell him to do it," I defended myself with a shrug.
"Abhwuuu! Awa--uhh!"
"Ouch--seriously, Nava--ugh..."
"Bad! You make Papa sad! Is what he said," Natha suddenly took it upon himself to interpret our son’s thought.
Oh, my...was that why you do the smacking, baby? For me?
"Oh, my..." Mother gasped.
"Uhh! Huwaah! Bwaah!"
"Papa has to go because of you! Papa can’t stay with me! Bad!" Natha continued with the translation, and I honestly had no idea if any of that was real or if it was Natha’s own complaint.
The Demon God winced at the relentless assault. "Wait, uhh--I didn’t mean to...I didn’t tell him to do any of that, okay?!" he took a chance to step back when Shea was no longer gripping his hair--which was no longer neatly combed. Looking messy and rather pathetic, he pointed at Luxera. "If anything, shouldn’t you blame her? She was the one who disappeared and caused a ruckus!"
"What?!" Luxera, who was about to snack on a grape in the mini kitchen, snapped. "How is it my fault? I was given a cursed artifact! I’m the victim here!"
"That happened because you can manage your unruly humans!"
"The humans are three times the number of demons! Do you think it’s so easy, huh?!"
"Oh, so classic! Nothing is ever your fault, huh? You’re always the victim, huh?!"
"What? Just say you’re jealous!"
"The hell?!"
"That’s enou--"
"SHUT UP!" I covered my baby’s ears and stomped on the floor, screaming as loud as I could. "Both of you--just shut up!"
Finally, as my scream tapered away inside the wide room, we had silence. The deities were looking at me with widened eyes, perhaps never thought a mortal would tell them to shut up.
But I was truly, truly fed up.
"Just stop this!" I glared at An’Hyang and Luxera. "Not only did you argue in front of children, it wasn’t even for anything remotely important!"
Luxera frowned. "I’ve been thinking about this, but you really are ru--"
"Shut up!" I barked again. To hell with cooperation. I wanted Shwa to smack her too, but I didn’t want my baby to hurt his hands.
Holding my baby close to my chest, I looked at these...useless, useless deities. "I ask you now; what have you actually done for the realm, huh? What have you actually done to make the situation better? Nothing!"
I looked at An’Hyang, taking a step forward to jab his chest. "The world is dangerous? Why do you think it is, huh? The war, the conflict, the hatred--why do you think it happened? Huh?!" I jabbed him strongly one last time. "Instead of trying to make the world less dangerous, you were trying to imprison my son instead!"
"I’m not trying to imprison--"
"You did!" I gritted my teeth, before taking a deep breath because I had a baby in my hold. "Do you think just making a fun cage is enough? It is still a cage."
I turned around and walked toward Natha. Shwa was peeking at me, clutching my tunic tightly and frowning, refusing to be moved to his daddy. Oh, baby...I’ve never intended to let you go even one second.
"Living in a cage...is not the kind of life I want to give my son," I turned to look at the Demon God again, seeking reassurance from Natha’s hand on my back, and Jade’s arms around my leg. "My son will live amongst many people; among demons, among humans, among the children of nature. He’ll travel the world and learn as many things as he wants. He shall be whatever he wants to be in the future. He’ll face danger like any other and overcome it, like any other. He won’t--" I glared at the twitching red eyes. "He won’t live so sheltered that he couldn’t even solve a petty conflict like you."
Once again, Luxera scowled. "You--"
"I told you to shut up!" I glared at her this time. "You didn’t even do anything--none of you did anything! I was out there, working hard so I could create a better place for my son, a better world--but what did you do?! Nothing!"
I didn’t like bragging about achievement, much less using it as a weapon. But once again, I was fed up.
"Who do you think worked to make the New Covenant? Me! Natha! My friends!" I swept my gaze across the deities, didn’t even care what kind of face they were making. If they reacted badly, I’d just escape with the dragon brooch. "We were--we are still trying hard to create peace between the three realms but what did you do? You’re just bickering childishly! Not even my children fight like you!"
"That’s..."
"That’s pathetic!" I finished An’Hyang’s words for him. "You should have been a role model, someone to be revered!"
I took a deep breath again, filling my lungs with much-needed air. Shouting was honestly exhausting--there was a reason why I rarely did. I had to apologize to my children later for this, in case they were scared.
Surprisingly enough, the deities hadn’t said anything--to reprimand me, for example. The one who spoke first was actually the King.
"I agree with everything he said," the King announced, as if to make sure he fulfilled his end of the bargain.
I had thought that I was too tired to shout anymore, but it seemed like I still had the energy. "You’re not any better!" I turned toward the King, narrowing my eyes. "All you did is stay here and do nothing! You should have been the representative of the Demon Realm--did you even ever try to make a contact? To open a talk? You’re just the same so shut up and eat your cheese in silence!"
"Yes, Sir..."
Surprisingly too, the King sat down and retrieved his cheese board from beneath the table.
Ah, my head was throbbing. Why did everyone just piss me off? I looked down at Shwa to apologize for being too rough, screaming around while holding him. I felt like I was no better than these...umm, not people, that I had been berating.
"Awaah..." Shwa, however, reached out to hold my cheeks gently. "Mwaah!"
"He asked if you’re okay," Natha said. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"Yes, baby; thank you," I leaned down and nuzzled the little nose, until Shwa’s cheerful laughter filled the previously tense room.
Who would have thought that this little bundle of blessings was smacking the heck of a Demon God just a few minutes ago?
I shifted my gaze toward Mother, who hadn’t said anything all the time, like usual. Honestly, it wasn’t like I didn’t have any complaints, but I had already conveyed it to her back in the plaza. I just wished she worked on that more.
Mother caught my gaze and sighed, walking toward the Demon God. "An’Hyang, are you still going to insist on keeping the child here?"
He flinched and, after looking at me briefly, turned his head away with a sigh. "I won’t do anything that the vessel of Primordial One doesn’t want to do."
The power of a baby’s smacking!
"That means..."
Mother looked at me with a smile and nodded. "Yes, Valen. You can keep your son; I’ll make sure this one doesn’t do anything like this again in the future," she said while pulling on An’Hyang’s ear.
"Ouch, ouch--what is this now, Sarte?"
Before answering, Mother raised her hand and Luxera shrieked as she was suddenly getting pulled toward the other deities. "It’s time for us to talk seriously. Valen is right, we have been acting pathetic."
"Sis!"
"Shush!" Mother snapped her fingers to silence Luxera, before shifting her gaze toward me. "Where would you like to go, child?"
"Can you send us to the new Great Tree?"
Mother smiled and swayed her hand. A light green portal appeared beside us, bringing the scent of the palace city with it.
"Thank you, Mother." I nodded and had Natha carry Jade again. "Oh, and..." before stepping into the portal, I turned to look at An’Hyang again.
"W-what, now?"
"He’s not some vessel of the Primordial One," I said sharply. "He’s Shwa."
"Hwaa!" the baby yelled once again before we disappeared into the portal.
