Chapter 659: I forgot how petty my husband could be

Later, much much later, I asked Zarfa what had transpired during Natha’s delivery service that day, and she told me as such:

They were in the usual hotel, and since I informed Ignis that Natha would be the one coming, Zarfa did not put the token in the bedroom--naturally. She placed the token in the room we used as a strategy/meeting room, where Natha appeared later in his guise.

Wonderful. How dare they see that appearance longer than me? Anyway...

The delivery service was superb. Shiny jumped off safely--if not slightly terrified. But that was normal since Shiny did not have immunity to Natha’s fear. Nor the other humans. Zarfa already knew what a silly lover boy Natha was from his doctor days, so she bypassed the fear wall. Aina...was just fearless.

Because of that, Natha basically only talked to these two people. Well, might as well, since Zarfa was the one taking care of logistics anyway. He delivered the storage pouch for the provision, and refilled the money pouch on the spot like a walking ATM--Zarfa’s words, not mine.

So far so good.

Now, this was where things started to go wrong--at least for me. In Natha’s style, he asked them to tell him exactly what happened during the night of the attack. Honestly, perhaps it was my fault for going through it briefly--because how could I go into details about what happened in front of my baby who refused to leave my side?

And...well, knowing him, Natha would want to know more details about people who were still causing harm to me even now. And Zarfa being Zarfa did not spear any details or censor anything, including how she crushed those people’s...eggs?

Remember how my story was basically Shiny’s story? Knowing that its observation was being retold, Shiny energetically chimed in, and gave a more vivid picture of what transpired while I was falling asleep. Ignis generously provided an interpretation, but even without that, Natha already saw it through Shiny’s thoughts.

’Oh, he was mad, Val! He was malding!’ Zarfa would laugh mirthfully despite the eerie consequences of her detailed accounts.

But yeah, I could see that. I mean, I already saw how angry he could get when Zir’Kal touched me--so much that he did not allow me to look at his face. If it wasn’t for his disguise, Jin’s internal alarm would probably blare strongly.

Afterward, he left. Yeah, he left--but he did not return. It seemed like he went out with Heraz to take care of something, before going back to the hotel and teleporting back to the Castle.

And threw me that question with a deadly charming smile.

I hugged Shwa as a means of defense, showing Natha our pretty son to quell his anger. "I...I didn’t do it deliberately," I argued. "Just...didn’t think it was important?"

"Isn’t it a problem that you didn’t think it was important?"

"I mean...at that time, I was more concerned about them leaking my identity, you know?"

"Hmm..."

No hmm! I was telling you the truth!

"And...and, you know how we could barely be alone? Even if I remembered, there was no chance to tell you, you know? Wait--we shouldn’t talk about it now either! Shwa is awake!"

"Ngg...what Papa and Natha talk about?"

"And Jade is here!"

"Jade can’t be here?"

"You can stay, Jade. Stay!"

"Okay!"

Phew. Need all the defense I could have. I put on my sweetest smile and looked at Natha with what I hoped was a pair of clear, innocent eyes. And perhaps, perhaps because he could feel my nervousness, Shwa kicked into action.

"Aaah!"

My little baby reached out and smacked Natha’s chin--which was well in range in front of us--as if scolding him. Both me and Natha blinked in surprise, and Shwa repeated again, smacking Natha’s fake smile.

"Aaa! Waaa!"

"Are you saying you don’t like me smiling like this?" Natha asked amusedly.

"Waa!"

Oh, my little defender! Natha sighed and I giggled behind Shwa’s head. He finally erased that smile, and while he was grumbling instead, it felt better for all of us. Natha clicked his tongue and took a seat in the armchair across from me, sighing heavily.

"Haa..." he let out a hollow laugh. "Heraz shouldn’t kill that person right away."

Wait, wait--we were going to talk about that in front of a baby? I kicked his shin and covered Shwa’s ear. Even if Shwa wouldn’t understand what we were saying, I was a firm believer that babies should only hear positive stuff.

"Then when will we be able to talk about it? Our son refuses to be separated from you," Natha rolled his eyes.

"Well..." I looked at my baby. Perhaps because he looked like Natha, it seemed like he was very intelligent. "Just...make sure to censor some words."

Natha chuckled amusedly, but that also meant he was willing to comply. Anyway, it was my first time finding out that the mercenary who identified the sentient spear was the ponytail guy.

"Well, what can we do about it," I shrugged. "Isn’t it fine already since he met his end?"

"An end that is much too easy for the sin," Natha said eerily.

"There’s a lot of people like that."

"Who are you talking about, Natha?" Jade climbed to Natha’s lap, asking curiously. He even brought over chocolate as an information price--even though Natha didn’t like sweets.

Still, Natha took the chocolate as a payment and put it in his mouth. Was he so angry that he craved sugar? It was rather fascinating. "You were there, weren’t you? Those people who wanted to rob you the last time."

"Oh! Oh! Jade know! Jade burn some of them!"

Natha raised his brow and patted the green hair. "Good boy."

"Jade burn the one calling Papa pretty!"

Natha stopped chewing on the chocolate and tilted his head. "Was that person had long hair?"

"Yes! Tied like this!"

Natha clicked his tongue. "As I thought--it was too easy an end."

"Ugh...I mean, there’s no use crying over spilled milk now, right?" I smiled wryly, but Natha looked as serious as ever. He tapped on his temple in contemplation, didn’t even budge when Jade played with his hair. "Nat?"

And then the smile returned, and I was filled with goosebumps. "It doesn’t have to end."

"What? But he’s..."

"Death..." he smiled with his fangs, "...doesn’t have to be the end."

* * *

Crazy. My husband was crazy!

Well, maybe not, but...gosh, I couldn’t believe he wanted to employ a necromancer just for this! I mean, technically...that man hadn’t done anything to me? I was the one beating him instead? Well, Jade and Alveitya, but still!

It was true that the guy was causing so much distress for me because he identified Alveitya, but I didn’t think about it much anymore because it turned out well in the end.

So...was this all really necessary?

"Rather than a necromancer, wouldn’t it be better to employ a soulmancer instead?" Eruha offered some advice during the meeting.

Yeah, Natha held a whole ass meeting for this.

"Umm...what’s the difference?" I asked. I did not agree with this whole motion, but I couldn’t help being curious.

"Necromancer would just piece together the remnant of the corpse and use an accumulation of death energy to make it move," Lesta explained. "People who don’t know think it is moved by the soul, but controlling a soul is completely different than controlling death energy."

"Hmm..."

"At any rate, using necromancy means we’ll deal with the body only, but I’m sure His Lordship doesn’t want to vent his anger to a soulless body who wouldn’t even know it was getting beaten again."

Oh...was that why things like zombies and ghouls could keep on reviving and reviving without seemingly feeling any pain or fear? They were basically organic golems fueled by death energy, if I understood this correctly.

"If we want to go all the way, we should use both," Arta slammed the table. She was the one supporting this meeting the most. "Use necromancy to raise the corpse and get a soulmaancer to call his soul and put it inside the corpse!"

This was definitely something that children should never listen to. Fortunately, Jade was on his study time with the nannies, and Shwa was sleeping. Or was Natha deliberately chosen this time so I wouldn’t have any reason to refuse?

Gently covering my baby’s ears, I looked at this weird committee with a sigh. "Don’t you think you’re going too far?"

"What are you talking about, Young Master? This is nowhere far enough!" Arta argued, and Lesta looked at me with a hopeless smile.

"Just go with it, Young Master. Better do this thoroughly than have His Lordship blasting his anger for weeks. Think of us poor employees, hmm?" he whispered with pleading eyes.

"But...but--what about your work? Aren’t you busy with gathering the keys?"

"I told you I can’t do anything while the Sloth is in hibernation," Natha shrugged. "Anyway, let’s go with both. It will be too risky to smuggle demons over, so Iet’s search for them in the Human Realm instead."

"By your command!" Arta saluted energetically, and I couldn’t tell if she was doing it because of her loyalty toward me, or because she just wanted to do something fun.

Anyway...

Oh, Mother...necromancy, soulmancy...whatever I should tell my lawful good human friends?
