Chapter 951: THE FINAL BATTLE (17)

"Cane, I think you really need to get some rest first." Jace looked at the alpha and was very concern about his condition. He just woke up after months of being unconscious. It must have taken a toll on his body, seeing how his wounds didn’t heal yet.

However, the first thing he did when he opened his eyes was to find a way to deal with the situation. The beta felt so uneasy, lest his condition worsened. He could see the impact of his presence to the moral of the warriors.

If he fell, they would lose hope again. Jace knew very well how atrocious it was to be given hope only to be taken away, leaving you in deeper misery.

"Where is them?" Cane ignored Jace concerned. He didn’t want to wait at all. He had kept her wait for months.

"Them? Who?" Jace turned around and watched all the people, who followed Cane here.

"Come here," Cane said. He gestured for Lou, Cedric, Cezi and Zale to come closer to him. The four of them understood what he intended to do.

"Alpha Cane, if we used the divine power to try to break the shield again, they will come to us. Decratic will send his mind controller after us," Cezi tried to explain the situation to Cane. "The last time, we lost fifty three people on our side."

"I have told him about that," Lou said. "He didn’t want to listen."

"Try it again," Cane said. He stared at the shield. He could tell this was a strong one, even when he didn’t know much about magic.

"Alpha, you will put the people in danger if you..." Cedric wanted to make it clear that it was not an option and they had tried it, but Cezi put his hand on his shoulder to stop him.

Meanwhile, the merchant was already folding his sleeves. "Well, if you insisted. Let’s go brat!" He patted Zale’s shoulder, but more like he hit him, because it was too harsh and the boy stumbled forward.

"I have a name, you tacky man!" Zale growled at Lou, pretending the hit didn’t hurt at all.

Seeing this, Jace knew there was no negotiation. He backed down and ordered the warriors to prepare themselves. They had fought the mind controller before, so they knew what they expected.

Ethan watched Cedric, Lou, Cezi and Zale took their position with a frown. Why he was not part of them? He was still annoyed about that.

On the other hand, Cane gave his undivided attention to the impact that the four of them could pull against the shield.

His eyes flickered in red color. The lycan within him was enraged, so was he.

=============================

"You can’t be here."

A young, lanky man came out of hiding. He looked a little bit older than Joel, but from his figure, Iris could tell that he was not a shifter. He was not a magic user, but he reeked of black magic. She had seen him a few times, following Dexter or Kellan.

The two of them couldn’t do any harm on her because of Decratic’s order, but they also couldn’t get close to her because Iris wouldn’t be polite.

"You shouldn’t be here," he said.

"Why not?" Iris asked. She tightened her grip on Annie’s hand, while the little girl tried to hide behind her back. The other fifteen little girls looked terrified. They backed away to the shadow.

"Prince Kellan will be so mad," he said. "I came here to get her. Annie, come with me. Sir Kellan wanted to see you."

"No. No. I don’t want to go!" Annie started sobbing.

"You look so dirty. Someone will clean you up. Prince Kellan will be mad if he saw you like this." He furrowed his brows. He didn’t want to do it, but he couldn’t disobey the order.

"She will not go anywhere. She will come with me." Iris narrowed her eyes at him. "Back off, Letto."

"Luna Iris. I can’t leave without her. Prince Kellan wanted to see her. Please understand," he said apologetically. "You can see Annie after."

"Tell him to fuck off." Iris didn’t use to curse before, but after months lived in this hellish place, she was accustomed to it now.

Letto grimaced when he heard her. "Luna, Iris. Please..."

Iris gave Letto a dagger look, but she didn’t heed his plea, instead she turned around and instructed Annie to get her other friends to come with her as well.

"Go, get them," Iris said softly. She caressed her head. "Don’t worry. I will protect you."

"You can’t protect anyone, luna," Letto said sadly. "You are here because you are not strong enough to even protect yourself." He didn’t say it out of malice, but he was sad to see Iris’s current condition. He felt bad for her.

"Go, Letto." Iris could see that he only wanted to help her, so she wouldn’t get herself into trouble, but the fact that he said was hurt. She didn’t even want to think how many people had died because of her backlash.

Did it reach the area where the shifters were? It was a good thing that they didn’t come with her and Cane through the second fortress, or else, she would have killed them all without a doubt.

However, did they survive?

Iris didn’t even want to make a guess.

"Luna Iris. You only troubled yourself. Sometime, you need to turn blind eyes," Letto persuaded her. "It will be easier for you too."

"I know hardship, Letto. I grow up with it. Life has never been easy or kind to me lately. But, I will never choose an easy path for my own comfort." Iris took a step closer toward him. "I know life has never been easy to you too."

Annie then returned with the other fifteen little girls, they were around the age of eight to twelve. They looked very dirty and smelly. Some of them were shifters, some of them had a potential to be a magic user and the rest was merely human.

"I thank you for the fruits, I know it was you, who used to drop it in front of my door."

Not like shifters, who could notice someone else’s scent when they were nearby, Iris could notice Letto’s presence because of the black magic within him.

"Let’s go." Iris took all of them out of this dungeon. She would keep them in her bedroom. Decratic wouldn’t be able to come because he was still suffering from the backlash and she dared Kellan or Dexter to get close to her.

Annie and the rest followed Iris, they walked so close to her. This time, Letto didn’t stop them. He only stood still and watched them left.

"Luna Iris..." Annie called her, she addressed her as such because that was how Letto addressed her. "He is not bad. Sometime, he gave us food when we were being starved."

Iris smiled at her and caressed her head. "I know, Annie. He used to give me food too." And Iris was grateful for that.

Life had a funny way to repay your kindness.

===============================

All of them were dumbstruck when they watched what their alpha could do. They knew that he was the lycan and had the ability that normal shifter couldn’t have, but to watch him fighting the mind controllers in his lycan form, taking them down within a second by using the black wisp closely made them realized how ferocious and invincible the cursed creature was.

When Cedric, Cezi, Lou and Zale tried to breakthrough the shield, Cane observed it and found something interesting, especially when the mind controllers started coming out of the shield and attacked them.

The alpha actually let Lu to vent out his rage and lash out on Decratic’s followers. And sure enough, the lycan didn’t leave a single soul. Actually, he wanted more of it. He wanted more blood of the enemy.

"Retreat," Cane said after he shifted back from his lycan form.

They followed the alpha’s command and retreated to their safety place. Cane gave instruction to Jace and Ethan about what to do, he also talked with Cezi and Derick, in separate occasion, he had a conversation with Lou and Cedric.

Only after the alpha gave them all an assignment and concocted a plan, he could take some rest. His body had been screaming for him to rest, especially the pain on his shoulders.

’Black magic, what else?’

That was Lu’s answer when Cane asked him. The lycan was pacing back and forth impatiently. He wanted to get Iris as soon as possible. Cane wanted it too, but with his current condition, he wouldn’t achieve anything if he was being reckless and impulsive.

’Get Iris here to heal you.’

Cane tuned the lycan off. His only solution was to go through the barrier and get Iris. The lycan knew no plan at all.

The next day, Cane used his time to recuperate and ask Lou to look after his wounds again. He told him to use the divine power, but it didn’t really work. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Well, you can’t compare the divine power I hold with the one Iris have." Lou crossed his arms in front of his chest, feeling offended because Cane gave him a dirty look, since he couldn’t heal him. "I am a merchant! Not a healer!"

The pain was annoying for Cane and he got the four of them to do it together to make it a little bit better.

It was manageable at most, but Cane needed a few more days to gather his strength, before he decided it was the right time.

The lizard was still recovered from the great effort it had to exert to save Cane’s life, that was why they couldn’t use it to deliver any message to anyone out there.

On the eighth day Cane was awake, he took all the warriors with him to the same spot, where they would try to break the shield.

"What plan do you have?" Lou asked impatiently, he had been pestering Cane about this, but the alpha kept it to himself. "You have witnessed it with your own eyes that we can’t penetrate the shield. What are you going to do now?"

Cane glanced at Lou, but he said nothing and the merchant was exasperated with this alpha.

"You can tell me, you know."

"I am saving my energy."

"But, you are talking to me now." Lou was grumbling, annoyed.

Ethan came over and patted his shoulder sympathetically. "What do you expect? Better save your energy." The gamma grinned, while the merchant kept grumbling.

However, if Lou paid close attention, he would know what Cane was up to and what he actually could do.

This was not the first barrier that he managed to breakthrough. They had stumbled a barrier before and it was Cane, who had solved the problem when they thought only Iris could do it.

Therefore, right at this time, he did it again.

The black wisp emerged from his body, like a living being, slithered on the ground, floating in the air and covered the sky.

The black wisp, Lu’s power couldn’t purify the black magic like Iris did, but it could neutralize it. Cane realized it when he saw those mind controllers stepped out of the barrier. Those mind controllers had a magic user to neutralize the barrier so they could go through it.

"Sometime, I forgot he is not only a shifter..." Lou said to no one in particular, as all of them watched how the black wisp covered the entire barrier and it looked like it fused with it.

"Is this the power of the lycan?" Cezi muttered.

For a few seconds, they could only hold their breath when the alpha stepped into the barrier and it didn’t reject him.

The black wisp created a path and the end of it was the capital city, the palace.
