Chapter 251: This is all my fault!

Kurtis POV

While I was still talking, trying to make Noah see reason, I saw Lucius slip out of the room. I could tell the guilt was gnawing at him. I could feel it deep in our bond. Excusing myself from Noah, I made my way back to the room we were staying.

We had spent the night together. Me, him and Emilia. When I opened the door, I saw Lucius gathering weapons and supplies. His movements were quick – as though he was in a hurry to leave. I could tell he was desperate to make amends for his mistakes. Lucius was perfection in form.

Dealing with this was a huge blow to him and I could understand.

"What are you doing, Lucius? Where do you think you’re going?" I asked. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Lucius didn’t look up from what he was doing. "I’m going after Jade and Jared," he said, his voice tight with determination. "I’m going to find the real Selene. Don’t worry, I don’t need soldiers this time around, I can handle it,".

I stepped into the room, my brows furrowed "Lucius, you can’t just rush off like this. We need a plan, a strategy. Going in blindly could only make things worse,".

But he wasn’t listening, he kept throwing things into a bag, frustrating me all the more. Finished, he shouldered the pack and made to move past me. I moved quickly, blocking his path.

"I’m not in the mood right now, Kurtis," he said coldly "Leave the way,".

"I am commanding you as an Alpha to stay put, Lucius. I can have you punished; do you know that?"

He arched his brow, giving me a blank stare, catching me off-guard, he shoved me away. I saw pain flash in his eyes as he turned to look at me, I could tell he hadn’t intended to shove me harder than he did.

I stumbled back, trying to hide the shock on my face. It wasn’t just the physical push that surprised me, but the raw emotion I saw in Lucius’s eyes. Tears of anger and guilt were threatening to spill over.

"This is all my fault!" Lucius exploded, his carefully maintained composure finally cracking. "Mine, Yours and Emilia’s. While Jared and Jade were getting away with the real Selene, we were ... we were distracted,’ He couldn’t bring himself to say more, the shame of his actions hung in the air.

My expression softened with understanding as I picked myself up. "Lucius, you can’t blame yourself for...".

"Don’t!" he cut me off sharply. "Don’t try to absolve me of this. I’m not like you, Kurtis. I can’t just shrug off my responsibilities or my mistakes,".

The words hung in the air between us, filled with unspoken tensions and long-held resentments.

"If you want to say something to me, Lucius, you need to hide behind a situation to call out my bullshit. Don’t be a coward!".

"I am not a coward!" Lucius yelled crossing the distance and, in a minute, he was standing in front of me, his eyes blazing with hatred. "I don’t like you," he continued. "I don’t like how you always seem to have an answer to every fucking thing. How you can remain so calm when everything is falling apart? And Emilia..." His voice caught on her name, a mixture of anger and hurt colouring his tone.

As if summoned by her name, Emilia suddenly appeared in the doorway, holding three glasses of wine, and wearing one of my oversized TEE. Her face was pale with worry.

"Lucius, what’s going on?" her gaze darted between us. I heard shouting,".

Lucius turned to her, his expression hardening. "It turns out the people we rescued were all shapeshifters – Foxes precisely. There is no Luna Selene or Jade or Jared,".

"Oh, goddess!" Emilia exclaimed and rushed into the room dumping the tray that had the drinks on the tabletop nearby. "How did that even happen? Are you alright?" she made to move towards him but Lucius held up his hand, cutting her off.

"Stay away from me, Emilia. All of this... it’s partly your fault too. The only thing you ever think of is your pleasure. You have no sense of duty. You distracted me when I should have been more vigilant, bringing you on that trip is the biggest mistake I’ve ever made. I regret it,".

"Lucius, for moon’s sake..." I sighed "You’re just angry, maybe you should chill off and say things when you’re less angry,".

"I am perfectly fine," he retorted.

Emilia tried again and with a pleading tone. "Lucius, please, I never meant...".

"Save it," he cut her off again, causing her to flinch as if she’d been struck. "You ran away from home because you were scared of performing your duty as the Alpha’s daughter. You know nothing about it. Well! Look where that’s gotten us. Maybe if you’d stayed where you belonged, I would have never met you and my life would have been as it was... none of this would have happened,".

"Lucius, that’s enough!" I tried to butt in but he turned to me, with a glare.

"I reject both of you, Emilia and Kurtis... I reject you all. If either of you tries to follow me," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "I’ll kill you myself and damn the consequence. I never want to be in this stupid mate bond with either of you and you Emilia... I’ll tell your parents exactly where you are and report to the Gamma in Moon Whisper about your fake identity, don’t push me,".

"Lucius!" Emilia’s eyes gathered with tears. "You don’t mean any of those words. You love me!"

"I don’t!" Lucius said, his eyes glinting with mockery. "You’re just a warm body and nothing more. I don’t want to have anything to do with both of you again. Ever!"

Without waiting for a response, he pushed past us and strode out of the room. The sound of his footsteps echoed through the hallway, fading as he made his way out of the pack house and into the night.

I and Emilia stood in stunned silence
