“You’re right, Melody. There was no one else besides us.”

Erika answered firmly to my mumbling.

The girl standing in the corner of the elevator was wearing the same St. Gloria Private School uniform as us.

The girl had her head down, and her hair covered her face. Also, her hair was so long that it almost swept the floor.

‘Your hair is wet.’

Water was dripping from her damp hair, and the floor was soaked with water.

‘W-are you a person?’

I was scared because of the atmosphere. I held my slightly trembling hands and clung to Erica just like Sutherland Youngae.

The cute ghosts that were lingering around were nowhere to be seen, even after rubbing my eyes.

Kkik-

Kkik-

At that moment, a strange sound came from the unidentified girl.

The schoolgirl kept tilting her head back as if her neck was sore, but her appearance was a little strange.

She was tilting her head crookedly and repeatedly, like a music box doll with a broken wind-up.

Then, I could see the schoolgirl’s face through her hair.

The schoolgirl’s mouth was torn all the way to her ears. She was still smiling brightly, tilting her head in a deformed way.

That sight sent shivers down my spine and my head went cold.

“......Give me the floor.......”

“Ahh! I, I said something!”

When the schoolgirl opened her mouth, Sutherland Youngae started to fuss.

Whether Sutherland Youngae said it or not, the schoolgirl raised her bony arm and pointed somewhere. It was in the direction of the floor button.

“Press the first floor.”

“What?”

For a moment, I didn’t understand what the schoolgirl was saying, so I asked her back. But that must have made her angry.

She shook her head 90 degrees and her body trembled.

“Press 1st. Press 1st. Press 1st. Press 1st. Press 1st. Press 1st.”

“Eek! What are you doing, Erica! I told you to press 1st, press it quickly! Hurry up!”

Sutherland Youngae, who had been making a fuss, called Erica’s name without hesitation and shook her violently.

The floor button was right behind me, so I pressed the 1st button before Erica.

My hands were shaking, but I tried my best to stay calm.

Still, I was the one with the most experience. I had experienced ghost stories firsthand, so I had to act calmly.

Ding-

The elevator stopped on the 1st floor.

But the door still wouldn’t open. I pulled the lever, but it was the same.

“Press 7th.”

This time, the female student asked to press the 7th floor. It was a ghost with a lot of demands.

“Press the 7th floor....”

“What are you doing, Hastings! Press it quickly! Hurry up!”

Before the school girl could finish speaking, Sutherland Youngae started to fuss again and this time hit my shoulder.

I don’t know when we became so friendly, but given the circumstances, I dutifully pressed the 7th floor.

The 7th floor was the top floor.

The school girl, cut off by Sutherland Youngae, stood quietly.

Ding-

We arrived at the 7th floor right away. As expected, the elevator door didn’t open this time either.

“What the hell are you doing!”

Boom-

This time, Sutherland Youngae stomped her feet and knocked on the door.

“Press the 4th floor.”

At that moment, the school girl spoke again. Sutherland Youngae got really annoyed.

“Lady, just come and press it yourself! Why do you keep telling me to press it!?”

“Press 4th floor. Press 4th floor. Press 4th floor. Press 4th floor. Press 4th floor. Press 4th floor. Press 4th floor.”

The schoolgirl muttered [N O V E L I G H T] in a flat voice and approached Sutherland Yeong-ae one step at a time. Sutherland Yeong-ae’s face turned pale.

“Whoa! I’ll, I’ll press it! I’m pressing it!”

Sutherland Yeong-ae pressed 4th floor with tears in her eyes.

Ding-

As expected, the elevator door didn’t open even on the 4th floor.

“Press 8th floor.”

“Aaaaah! I’m going crazy!”

Sutherland Yeong-ae screamed, pulling out her hair.

Personally, I thought Sutherland Yeong-ae was noisier and would go crazy.

At that moment, Erica’s voice was heard.

“Huh? There’s no 8th floor.......”

Now that I think about it, the 7th floor of the female dormitory was the top floor.

But even though I didn’t press the floor number, the elevator suddenly started to operate.

Ding-

And then it stopped. Through the iron bars of the elevator, I could see the hallway of the floor where it had stopped.

The number 8 was written on that floor.

“What’s going on? There’s no 8th floor in this building.”

Sutherland Youngae looked back at Erica with a shaken face.

She was deep in thought with a serious expression. Then, as if something had come to mind, she spoke.

“I know what this is. Aerose Youngae told me a story about a number code that was used 100 years ago. 1748 refers to the verse 48 of Chapter 17 of the Bible. What verse is it.......”

Bible chapter 17 verse 48? What verse is that?

Sutherland Youngae and I focused on Erica’s next words.

She opened her mouth in a trembling voice, looking at the student standing silently behind her.

“With this, the door has been opened. The lambs have lost their place to return to.”

“What does that mean? Why did you use that code?”

Erica shrugged her shoulders and answered Sutherland Youngae’s question.

“I don’t know that either.”

As soon as Erica finished speaking, a loud footstep was heard.

“Ugh! Surprise!”

Sutherland Youngae clung to Erica and me, almost having a seizure.

When I turned around, it was the sound of the student stepping on the water that had gathered on the floor.

The student’s face was completely covered by her hair, as if she could see ahead, but she still walked accurately.

Soon, she passed me and pulled the elevator lever, and the door opened.

The female student got off on the 8th floor. Then she looked back at us.

When she tilted her head slightly, her face was visible through her hair. Her mouth, which was still torn to the ears, was smiling.

She stared at us silently, then turned around and walked away.

“Shouldn’t we follow her?”

Sutherland Youngae asked me and Erica.

Erica nodded her head to Sutherland Youngae’s words with a bewildered expression.

‘Huh?’

I listened to their conversation with one ear and raised my head.

‘What’s that?’

I saw something whitish above my head. Something pure white was writhing on the elevator ceiling.

After looking up for a while, I heard Erica’s voice.

“Should we get off first? It’s better to get out than to stay stuck here....”

As she said that, Erica tried to get off the elevator with Sutherland Youngae.

‘Wait. No.’

I grabbed their arms in a hurry.

“Lady Hastings, what are you doing?”

“Melody, what’s wrong?”

The two looked at me with puzzled faces.

My face turned pale and I just moved my lips. My hands were shaking with fear.

“Hey, hey.”

Sutherland Youngae and Erica urged me with frustrated faces.

“What’s wrong?”

“Tell me, Melody.”

I took a deep breath and said.

“Don’t move.”

The two women’s faces hardened as they realized that my voice was serious.

“Never look down. Take a step back slowly.”

The two women nodded their heads sharply at my words with frightened faces.

They had been stretching their legs to get out of the elevator, but they slowly took a step back and went back inside.

Only then did I feel relieved and tell them.

“This is the rooftop.”

As soon as I realized that it was the rooftop, my vision changed. Up until now, I had thought we were in the elevator, but that wasn’t the case.

We were not in the elevator on the 8th floor, but had already left the elevator and were standing on the rooftop of the dormitory.

Erica and Sutherland Youngae almost went over the end of the railing on the rooftop of the dormitory.

If they had just gotten out of the elevator... ... .

They probably would have fallen down the building.
