Chapter 972: Chapter 838: Spirit Art Competition

Ye Wansheng talked to himself and, watching the direction Chu Mu left, suddenly realized a very important issue.

“Losing to that freak Chu Mu isn’t shameful, isn’t shameful at all. I mean, how could there possibly be someone stronger than me in this ‘World?'” Ye Wansheng said, stroking his own chin and smiling. The gloom from his recent defeat was instantly dispelled.

During The World Decree, his strength was far below Chu Mu’s, but now he could barely compete, which should count as him having caught up quite a lot.

However, upon closer thought, Ye Wansheng felt something was off.

“This guy fought me using all his Sub Pets!” Ye Wansheng’s face immediately darkened again.

Ye Wansheng knew that Chu Mu was a Soul Pet Trainer, so he normally wouldn’t Change Soul Pets. The Ghost Dome King, Demon Tree Warrior, Ice-Feathered Spirit—these were all Chu Mu’s Sub Pets!

Ye Wansheng remembered that Chu Mu’s Main pet lineup should include the Mutant Tough Fox capable of devouring its own kind to Strengthen itself, the White Nightmare Demon with powerful self-healing abilities and capable of Limb Regeneration multiple times, along with the War Beast Mo Ye.

Those Three soul pets were the real freaks of Chu Mu, and just his Sub Pets could defeat him. If he summoned his Main pet, probably one Main pet alone could wipe out all of his Soul Pets…

Ye Wansheng rubbed his temples. Nearly Four Years of arduous cultivation, and he was still far behind others, which made Ye Wansheng somewhat bemused.

After returning to Soul Hall with Ning Man’er, Chu Mu’s mind was filled with questions, specifically about the “Sealing” incident Ye Wansheng mentioned.

Chu Mu had asked Ye Wansheng about the “Sealing” incident, but Ye Wansheng didn’t know much about it, only that his teacher had to hide from something because of the incident and ultimately couldn’t evade this disaster.

Chu Mu had always wanted to know why his Father had fallen from grace, but no matter who he asked, no one could give Chu Mu an answer, including Liu Binglan.

Could it be because of this “Sealing Incident”?

Literally, doesn’t “Sealing” mean to kill off all those who know a particular secret?

With the information on the timing of the incident provided by Ye Wansheng, Chu Mu went to the library to search for records of all major events.

“How can there be nothing… there should be at least a name,” said Chu Mu.

Chu Mu couldn’t find any information about this so-called “Sealing Incident” in any of the event records, not even the name of the incident was noted.

Oftentimes, Major Powers would record all events for future reference. Some matters that couldn’t be made public, no matter how inconvenient to mention, should at least have a name left behind, then the true events would be recorded in other tightly guarded books.

Therefore, Chu Mu specifically inquired with Princess Wan Ning whether there were any important records in Soul Hall that were being strictly protected.

Princess Wan Ning said that the event records in Spirit City were not complete. If Chu Mu wanted to know about some unknown gray incidents, he would probably have to go to Wanxiang City’s Soul Hall to get a rough idea of the event.

“What a Sealing indeed, to have no one know what happened from beginning to end…” Chu Mu sighed.

However, now Chu Mu at least knew that his Father’s downfall was caused by this “Sealing Incident.” Next, if he could find someone who knew about the event back then or find more accurate information, he should be able to understand the ins and outs of it.

The competition for Spirit Art finally began.

For the Preliminaries, the Plaza was set with Rock Long Tables made by Rock Type Soul Pet Trainers. The tables were arranged in rings, with the outermost ring likely accommodating a thousand people concocting medicine simultaneously.

The innermost ring of tables was probably for accommodating a hundred people. These seats were often taken by prodigious disciples and those recommended by Major Powers; they were the group of people closest to the Four-sided Seats wrapped around the stepped podium.

The Four-sided Seats were in the very center of the entire Plaza, surrounded by rings of Rock Long Tables and Spirit Masters standing there waiting to deliver questions.

The people on the Four-sided Seats were powerhouses above the Soul Emperor Level, significant figures from every Territory of the Earth Realm within Spirit City, personnel from the Major Powers with titles above Level 10…

For many people, these Four-sided Seats were a status they believed they could hardly climb to even with all their energy. In such a grand occasion, class distinctions became very obvious; ordinary people would forever only be able to stand below, squeezing in among the crowds, while those seated high enjoyed warmth, expensive teas and pastries, often with a Female Attendant standing behind them, awaiting instructions.

Perhaps, these attendants standing behind these mighty figures could also be those young men insanely pursued at some time, considered the most beautiful women.

Even at the Four-sided Seats, there was a clear distinction in class levels.

Sitting at the very bottom of the four-sided stepped platform were those representing the lowest tier in the Soul Emperor Domain. These individuals were not necessarily less powerful than those sitting above them, but their position and prestige couldn’t compare to that of the Soul Emperors under the banner of major powers.

In the middle section of the stepped platform, most of those appearing were Level 10 Title-holders from various major powers, predominantly of Palace Master Level, belonging to the mid-layer of the Soul Emperor Domain.

Above the seats of the Palace Masters were those such as Elders, Thirty-two Traces, Big Territory Leaders, and Great Spirit Masters. They represented the upper echelons of the Soul Emperor Domain.

Though their seats were just higher or lower, there was an insurmountable crevice between them because, without opportunities and resources, it is extremely difficult to advance from the Intermediate Emperor rank to the High-level Emperor rank.

The upper layer of Soul Emperors, at the High-level Emperor level, were indeed superior beings, controlling hundreds of millions of people. In their territories, they existed like gods.

Yet, above them were a few individuals, namely those of Elder Level, Sixteen Extremes, Ten Territory Lords and so on, who comprised the very top of the entire human community. They had absolute authority over the entire field of human Soul Pet Trainers, truly powerful figures who could make a territory quiver with a single stomp of their foot.

However, during today’s preliminary contest involving tens of thousands, these towering figures did not show themselves.

Presiding over the Soul Hall proceedings was Teacher De, the Spirit Master, who generally stayed only in two cities, one being World City and the other being Spirit City.

Among the Spirit Masters competing from the Soul Temple in Spirit City, there were two disciples of his, who, with their Elder-level disciple status, also had the privilege of standing at the innermost ring of medicine tables.

The hundred people at the innermost medicine table to some extent represented the most authoritative young Spirit Masters of the entire Wanxiang Realm. In the decades to come, they might well hold the Wand of Spirit Arts within the Wanxiang Realm.

Then, behind these hundred individuals, circle by circle, the crowd of Spirit Masters grew. Unless their Spirit Arts were truly outstanding, it would be difficult for them to make a mark in this competition of Spirit Arts.

The contest of Spirit Arts was, in fact, the same as a contest of power.

Whether a force was thriving could be seen from the number and quality of its Spirit Masters.

Therefore, to attract Spirit Masters was particularly important for each power.

In this most authoritative contest of Spirit Arts, each major power would have their inspectors present. It can be said that among the competing Spirit Masters, as long as they manage to achieve a certain ranking, those powers would be willing to provide for them and have them serve their cause.

Thus, this competition of Spirit Arts was also akin to a contest among the powers for scouting Spirit Master talent.

The person in charge of recruiting these Spirit Masters to the Soul Hall was Princess Wan Ning.

Princess Wan Ning herself had a very high prestige in the Wanxiang Realm. Wherever she went, a group of supporters would follow, making her the perfect ambassador for recruiting Spirit Masters.

Of course, Princess Wan Ning couldn’t possibly recruit just any Spirit Master in person. Typically, she would get involved personally only for those talents who could truly stand out and potentially influence the grand scheme of things.

Her appearance among the Four-sided Seats today was to hopefully find those with great potential among these contestants, to secure their recruitment in advance and avoid losing them to the Soul Covenant and other Earth Realm powers.

“Who is the man sitting next to Princess Wan Ning?” A Spirit Master seated in the second ring asked.

This man, named Pan Qing, was a highly prestigious Spirit Master within the Wanxiang Realm.

He had arrived in Spirit City some time ago and intended to join the ranks of the Soul Hall in this Spirit Art competition. His resolution was set, partly because he had the fortune of having a casual chat with Princess Wan Ning of the Soul Hall.

Princess Wan Ning indeed possessed an aura that could spark love at first sight, so Pan Qing also secretly resolved to stand out in this competition of Spirit Arts and then to have Princess Wan Ning personally invite him to join the Soul Hall.

However, despite the usual tradition of Princess Wan Ning appearing at any event without a male companion, this time there was a man seated beside her as her equal, across several layers of insurmountable hierarchy. Pan Qing noticed that Princess Wan Ning was always speaking softly to the man, who only nodded in response.

This made Pan Qing uncomfortable, although he knew that he was still not qualified to be favored by a Soul Hall Princess. Still, the sight of a man who appeared to be of high status beside the woman he nearly fell in love with at first sight made him feel as if something precious was being taken away from him.

In fact, among the crowd present, not only Pan Qing harbored such thoughts. Many admirers of the princess were also feeling uneasy. Perhaps there was no real relationship between them, but why would such a lofty princess need to explain things to a man and treat him with such decorum, while that man only needed to give a nod as though the person speaking to him was not a widely adored princess…

In the eyes of many, the status of the princess should be the highest.

The man sitting next to Princess Wan Ning was none other than Chu Mu.

Chu Mu was naturally not very talkative, while Princess Wan Ning was patiently pointing out to Chu Mu some individuals who could play a pivotal role and some with hidden potential amongst those present.
