"Not even the other monarchs can help. They won't make it in time," Dracos interrupted. "They're miles away. And now that the Scourge has attacked every kingdom, they'll be defending their own lands. Mobilizing them isn't just hard—it's impossible."

Nox stayed silent.

He looked at the Scourge beast again. Its claws twitched. Its movements were erratic, unpredictable. But there was intelligence behind its madness. Not full awareness—but command. Obedience.

Nox took a step back.

"So what now?" he asked.

Dracos looked down into the valley.

"We wait," he said. "We watch. We track it. Maybe we lure it further into the Marked Zone. Where it's safer to kill it without risking the city."

Nox hated the idea of waiting. Every second they did nothing, more Scourge beasts poured out of the Marked Zone. But… he wasn't stupid.

Dracos was right.

A wrong move now could bring an end to everything.

Nox folded his arms and stared at the beast in silence, silently telling his beast to disengage before more of them died.

The air was heavy. Cold. The only sound was the slow breath of the corrupted creature below and the quiet crunch of frost beneath shifting earth.

Minutes passed.

Then Dracos spoke again. "You're not just strong… You're different."

Before Nox could speak, the Ice Monarch continued.

"I saw what you did back there, although I couldn't sense them—their auras were very powerful."

"Oh," Nox simply said and didn't say more. He didn't want to reveal anything about his class to the powerful Frost Monarch. He didn't trust him, especially not after seeing the way the Frost Monarch had looked at the Scourge beast earlier.

Dracos looked sideways at him. "They'll come for you soon, you know."

"I know," Nox replied, breathing out a mouthful of frosty air.

"The Court," Dracos added, as if Nox hadn't understood. "But remember our deal. I promise to see it to the end after this whole mess."

Nox nodded, his attention focused on the Scourge Champion before he spoke again.

"Also—" Dracos pulled something from his robe—a crystal, dark and pulsing with faint frost energy. He tossed it to Nox.

Nox caught it, a somewhat confused expression crossing his face.

"A Frost Beacon," Dracos said. "Break it if you need me."

"Ah, than—" Just before Nox could show his appreciation—

A presence shifted.

Neither of them moved, but both immediately turned toward the same spot in the trees.

Nox frowned. "Did you feel that?"

Dracos said nothing. His eyes narrowed.

There was a crack in the silence. Not loud. Not sudden.

Just enough.

Then came the voice.

"…He's not wrong."

Both Nox and Dracos turned sharply toward the direction of the voice.

Standing at the edge of the clearing, only a few meters away, was a figure neither of them had sensed before.

An old, tall man with glowing blue eyes. His robes shimmered with ice patterns. His steps left frost behind. His expression was unreadable.

It was the Elder Frost Dragon from the Supreme Dragon Court.

And from the look on his face, he hadn't heard everything. Just enough to interrupt. Nothing more.

Nox's heartbeat slowed a bit, but his stance shifted. Slightly defensive.

Dracos, too, had gone still. A faint breath escaped the monarch's lips—not one of surprise, but calculation.

The elder took a few more slow steps forward, then stopped. His gaze lingered on the creature in the valley below for a few seconds before he turned to them.

"I felt a shift in the frost," the elder said. "And came to investigate."

Neither Dracos nor Nox replied right away.

The Scourge Champion below let out a faint growl, its massive armored head twitching, claws dragging shallow gashes across the ground. But it didn't look up. It hadn't sensed their presence yet, as the distance between them was quite large.

The elder folded his arms behind his back, calm as ever. "I assume you were about to engage it?"

Dracos answered in a calm tone, "We were assessing the situation."

The elder raised a brow faintly, his eyes narrowing as he looked down once more.

"Careful. That one isn't like the others."

Dracos nodded and said in an unfriendly voice brimming with animosity, "I know. And the kid already knows."

The elder turned his gaze on him. "Then you also know the cost of making a wrong move."

Nox kept quiet.

He was watching them both. The elder didn't even glance at him—not yet. He was focused on Dracos, and that in itself said enough.

The elder finally turned his head slightly toward Nox, his blue eyes meeting the boy's.

"Were you the one responsible for those overwhelming presences I sensed earlier?"

Nox didn't answer right away, but eventually gave a short nod.

"I see," the elder said, turning his full attention to Nox now. "You're full of surprises, young Frostpire."

No more words were shared, and a silence stretched again. It was subtle, but the weight of the elder's presence was increasing. Then he said slowly, "I assume you were also the one responsible for the sudden drop in Scourge numbers earlier at the western gatefront?"

"Yes," Nox said plainly, already tired of the questions that seemed endless.

The elder stared at him. "Impressive. But reckless."

Nox stayed quiet.

Then the elder turned his head again, looking between him and Dracos now. "I've heard rumors," he said. "About a hybrid. About strange movements in the ancient forest. The first person that reported this news to us was Valkor. The timing is… interesting, isn't it?"

Nox and Dracos remained calm on the outside, even though they were restless on the inside. Dracos's tone hardened and he said, "You came here for answers, or to throw accusations?"

The elder chuckled—low and dry. "Neither. I'm here to observe. Not interfere."

Yet his presence said otherwise.

He stepped forward once more, moving past the two of them and looking down at the Scourge beast below.

"It was one of ours," the elder said softly, as if repeating Dracos's earlier words. "I remember this one. Fought during the siege at the Wailing Ice Crater. Disappeared in the chaos. We thought it was dead."

"It would've been better if it was," Dracos muttered.

The elder turned his head slightly. "You stopped the boy from striking?"

Dracos gave a single nod.

"Good. You made the right choice now." The elder's expression became serious. "We isolate it. Push it back. And when the time is right—" He paused.

"We erase it."

A tense silence settled.

Dracos looked at Nox again.

Nox stared at the elder.

Something about his calmness was unsettling.

And then, the elder finally turned, facing Nox directly.

"But before any of that," he said, his gaze sharp now, "we need to talk."

Nox's expression didn't change.

The elder continued.

"About your… unusual talents."
