Suddenly, I Am Rich-Chapter 30: Breaking News
Chapter 30: Breaking News
Five days had passed in the blink of an eye since Gray made the bold investment. Now, with less than two days left to complete the system mission, Gray was already hoping for some miracle.
Gray hadn't seen Chloe since their last tutoring session on Friday as they had no session over the weekend.
That was also the reason why he was able to rest and slack off for 2 days. He stayed mostly at home with his sister.
The two of them enjoyed the comfort of their small apartment, spending much of their time in the cozy living room, watching some animated movies, and eating. Every late afternoon, they'd also take a walk to the nearby park.
"I'll pick you up again later, okay?" Gray said, ruffling Lily's hair gently.
As Monday came, their daily routine also continued. Today, Gray went with Lily to her school, his sister looked visibly happy about it.
"Yes, brother!"
Lily nodded with a bright smile, her backpack bouncing as she shifted on her feet. The same as her reaction within the past week, she was always happy whenever Gray went with her to school.
"Alright, go now."
"Bye, Brother!"
Gray watched Lily as she dashed through the school gates. She stopped briefly just before entering to wave at him one last time before disappearing into the crowd of children.
Gray didn't move right away. Instead, he stayed outside the school for a little longer. His hands stayed in the pocket of his coat while his eyes followed Lily's steps until she vanished.
The early morning breeze tousled his hair. He couldn't help but lightly chuckle. Their routine had been good. It made him feel as if he was spending more time with Lily. It also made him realize how much time he could spare now.
"Alright, time to go..." After staying for a little while, Gray finally let out a sigh and turned his body around to leave. However, before taking a step, his eyes caught familiar faces. Two children were dropped off by a luxurious car.
Gray immediately recognized them.
They were the same girls who used to bully Lily.
The kids' eyes widened as they saw Gray standing near the gate. One girl whispered something to the other, panic showing on their faces.
Without a word, they turned and rushed inside the school's gate as if they were a mice running from a cat.
Gray raised an eyebrow, then let out a low chuckle.
"I really must've scared those two brats," he muttered under his breath.
"Oh well, they better keep that way."
The corner of his lips rose as he shook his head with faint amusement.
"Anyway, I still have work to do." Letting out a sigh, Gray finally walked away. He was ready to head off to Lancaster's estate for his usual tutoring session. He stayed at the side of the road and waited for a cab.
However, it wasn't that long when his phone buzzed.
It was a message from Chloe.
[Chloe: Hi, Gray! Something came up today. We have a sudden family plan. Can we move our session to Wednesday? If that's alright with you.]
Gray stopped in his tracks, blinking at the message for a few seconds. He glanced up at the sky, then shrugged his shoulders.
[Gray: Sure. Just let me know the time.]
There was already no point in arguing since it's not like he had any say in Chloe's schedule.
It was just a waste of time since he prepared some lessons last night. But oh well, it seemed like he could just slack again today.
Sliding his phone back into his pocket, he sighed and turned around to leave, heading back in the direction of the bus stop.
'Guess it was going to be another boring day.' He sighed.
When Gray arrived back at their apartment, the place was as quiet as ever. Without Lily's chatter filling the space, it felt almost too plain, but also somewhat peaceful since Lily tends to be crazy sometimes.
Gray tossed his jacket over the back of the couch, kicked off his shoes, and collapsed onto the sofa with a long, drawn-out sigh.
"Well... since I've got the day off..."
Gray grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. He scrolled through a few streaming apps before settling on a list of action films he'd bookmarked but never gotten around to watching since he was too busy.
The sun rose higher outside as the hours passed, the faint light of it flickering in through the blinds as Gray remained stuck into the couch, watching movie after movie—some new, while others were classics he'd missed over the years.
It wasn't a productive day by any means, but it was relaxing. At least for a while, the thought of the mission deadline and the stress of his investment didn't bother him.
It felt good to just breathe.
By 2 pm, he had finished almost 3 movies. Gray lazily reached for his phone on the table, unlocking it to check the time, only to habitually end up scrolling through his feed.
He went through the usual, some memes, news headlines, and a few gossip posts from the entertainment industry.
However, as he scrolled further, one headline caught his eye.
It was just published a few minutes ago.
[Breaking News:]
Velmora Tech Officially Partners with Lancaster Corporation – Pioneering AI and Quantum Research Project to Begin This Month
"The fuck?"
Gray sat up.
His heart skipped a beat as he tapped on the article and read through the details.
The article explained that Lancaster Corporation had finalized an exclusive partnership with Velmora. The announcement had just been made earlier that morning, and there was already a buzz surrounding what this could mean for both companies—especially for Velmora.
Gray's fingers tightened around the phone.
Velmora Technology.
That was the same company he'd invested in.
His eyes widened as realization slowly sank in.
"...No way..."
He scrambled to open the stock app on his phone. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
And what he saw made his eyes nearly pop out of his head.
Velmora's stock price... was climbing.
Fast.
Very fast.
