Chapter 32 - Drakethorne Vs Fangblade!

David Fangblade and Ethan Drakethorne walked slowly towards each other, each step echoing in the silence of the arena.

The whole audience was silent, suppressing their excitement, wanting to enjoy this peak match even more...

The former, David Fangblade, his dark hair streaked with silver, eyes cold and sharp surveying his opponent,

The latter, Ethan Drakethorne, smooth jet-black and composed, with an ever-present air of confidence that felt natural to him, not forced.

David sighed inwardly.

A certain scene suddenly surfaced in his mind.

He and Ethan had been classmates before. They weren't exactly friends, not even close. But even back then, he had always been envious of Ethan—coming from an even more prominent family than his.

They'd talked a few times here and there, just like classmates do, but the scene he was recalling now wasn't from any of those casual talks.

It was right before Ethan awakened his talent, Unfated Scion.

After Ethan awakened that skill, the memory from just before had been burned into his soul. It was something he never forgot.

Now, standing here about to face Ethan for the first time since the tournament started, that scene came rushing back.

---

Back then, he had just awakened an A-rank skill—Earth Titan's Wrath. The only one in his class to do so at the time. He felt on top of the world. Like nothing could touch him. The pride of achieving something so rare surged in him like wildfire.

He wanted Ethan to feel it too—the pressure, the weight of it. After being envious of him for so long, for the first time, he felt proud of himself. That hot-blooded youthfulness made him feel like the peak of the world belonged to him.

An A-rank skill wasn't easy to awaken, even for someone from a top family. He was confident that even if Ethan awakened something good, it wouldn't beat his. After all, even with the Drakethorne bloodline, awakening an A-rank wasn't something that just happened.

As all this pride and confidence filled his heart, he happened to walk past Ethan.

Ethan just stood there—calm as always, not a care in the world—and simply raised an eyebrow at him.

David scoffed inwardly. Ethan had always been like that, with that arrogant air around him. David had always been overshadowed by that air of dominance.

But lately, these past few days, he'd noticed it even more. Ethan now had an even stronger air of superiority. It shook him.

Thinking back on that moment, David felt bitter.

He remembered chuckling low, his voice carrying amusement mixed with sarcasm and pride. He couldn't help but say,

"Hope you awaken something good, Drakethorne."

He actually said that... to the son of the Labyrinth Overlord... just because he awakened something decent.

So bold. So foolish.

And then Selene had nudged Ethan, her voice low, "That was definitely a provocation."

Back then, he felt disgust rise in his chest when she said that. He hated how smug she sounded. But now... now he just wanted to slap himself.

Thinking deeper, she wasn't just making a comment. No, she was smart. That sentence was carefully placed. She was planting a seed—trying to make Ethan act, to respond.

He hated her for her shamelessness back then, but now... thinking from another angle, maybe she was just doing what she had to do. Maybe she was trying to secure a connection for her Evernight family.

Being associated with the Drakethorne family would be a huge deal. One of the greatest families in Nexa—its foundation alone made 80% of the other families look like ants.

While she was doing her best to secure that kind of connection, David was out here letting his ego drive him to form enmity with that same family.

He shuddered visibly.

He had been seriously courting death at that moment.

People didn't know this, but the Fangblade family relied a lot on the Drakethorne family—not just through the Labyrinth rental, but through many other sources.

If that support was taken away because of his actions...

How would the Fangblade family survive?

And Selene's words, which seemed so harmless... they were deeper than they looked. She wasn't just pushing Ethan to act. She was trying to instigate something deeper—she was trying to push the Drakethorne family against the Fangblade family.

One wrong word from Ethan... and the relationship between the two families could crumble.

If that happened, the Fangblade family wouldn't just have trouble developing. It could mean exile. If the Drakethornes decided to cast them out of the Labyrinth entirely, they'd have no chance of surviving.

David's heart sank the more he thought about it.

And in that situation, who stood to gain the most?

The Evernight family.

Fangblade was their biggest competition.

If the Fangblades were gone, the Evernights would rise—simple as that.

As for Ethan's reaction that day...

He remembered Ethan letting out a quiet breath, his expression unmoved. Then he said to Selene, "Let him have his moment."

At the time, it sounded merciful.

Now David saw it for what it really was.

Ethan wasn't being passive—he was resisting. He didn't let Selene use him. He had most probably known all her schemes and had been pushing her back all this while, keeping her close—but not too close...

It all started to make sense now.

Their actions these past few days... the way they spoke, the way they moved, it was now starting to make sense to David.

David exhaled slowly.

'I really need to be extremely careful the way I act around these two,' he thought, the realization crashing down on him.

A new kind of resolve began to rise in his chest.

'I need to mature.'

Now, recollecting his thoughts, David looked up to his opponent not daring to underestimate him...

'Ethan Drakethorne, I'll defeat you!"
