"Huh? What do you mean?"

Chen Fei was about to stand up and leave, but looked at the other party again.

There was more to the story?

"This is the Southern War Zone, Commander Bartona's intelligence is extremely sensitive, you wouldn't want to be targeted because of it, would you? Our 'Holy Blood Guild' charges fair fees for reliable services, ensuring no future troubles."

The veiled woman's gaze burned into Chen Fei intensely.

After all, this was first-class intelligence, and it involved the biggest 'Local Snake' in the southern part of the continent. The Holy Blood Guild had no hopes of long-term business; it was quite possible the young man who just got the information would be assassinated as soon as he stepped out of the guild's doors.

In the face of a dead man walking, why be polite?

As one of the top guilds in Sun Domain City, such avarice was truly unsightly!

Chen Fei's brow creased slightly, but he then chuckled and asked, "Can I commission you to assassinate Bartona?"

If they could take down the Commander of the Rebel Army's Southern War Zone, tearing a hole in one corner of the continent, even at a price tag of ten billion Star Yuan, the Silan Dynasty would pay without hesitation.

The expression beneath the woman's veil froze; she couldn't help but inhale sharply, stammering, "That, that price is, it's very, very expensive!"

Her tone, now completely different from the confidence with which she had previously spoken to Chen Fei, revealed that she was truly frightened.

"Ten billion Star Yuan!"

Chen Fei threw out a figure.

Ten billion Star Yuan to take down a War Zone Commander was a steal of a deal.

With five war zones in the Zilu Continent – east, south, west, north, and center – for just fifty billion Star Yuan, all the Commanders could be killed, and the Silan Dynasty would surely scramble to pay.

"Bartona is the Commander of the Southern War Zone, his defensive forces..."

The veiled woman was mentally unguarded in the face of this offer; the price was too high, not just any life was worth that many digits.

"Fifty billion!"

Chen Fei was without any hesitation.

Money could solve any problem, none were problems at all, he could guarantee that the Dynasty would not blame him.

"... This, this won't be easy..."

The woman's mental defenses began to shatter.

A deal involving fifty billion Star Yuan was rare even for the entire continent's Mercenary Corps, let alone Sun Domain City and the Holy Blood Guild; it would not happen a few times a year.

The vast majority of Mercenary Corps teams would never see amounts over a billion in their lifetimes.

The one billion Star Yuan starting price she had quoted was also an attempt to fleece a sheep to death while she had the chance.

"One hundred billion Star Yuan!"

Chen Fei doubled the offer decisively once again.

"Please wait a moment, let us discuss it."

The veiled woman finally panicked. Such an astronomical sum was well beyond her authority. The confidentiality of the intelligence trading booth was only relative, and by now, the higher-ups of the guild must have been alerted.

Even at the earlier offer of ten billion Star Yuan, who knew how many mercenaries would go mad for it.

"Heh, I'm just kidding!"

Chen Fei did not hesitate to push open the door and leave booth number 14.

With a whopping one hundred billion Star Yuan deal, he would never allow someone else to get it cheap; he certainly planned to do it himself.

Especially since he intended to act personally. With the Holy Blood Guild's sky-high demands, wasn't Chen Xiao'er allowed a tit-for-tat response? A modern university graduate couldn't be easily pushed around, those educated in the Ivory Tower weren't so easily deceived.

"The hush money, can be ten million Star Yuan."

The veiled woman actually chased him to the door, hesitated, but eventually, did not come after him.

The people in the side hall all turned their gaze toward them; it was rare to see a trader from the intelligence trading area chase after someone.

"No need for hush money, as you wish."

Chen Fei did not look back, his bargaining chip was not one to be easily struck by anyone.

Actually, they were all in the same line of business; the Holy Blood Guild's tricks couldn't scare him.

In a luxuriously decorated office deep within the Holy Blood Guild, a projected image hung in the air, overlooking Chen Fei, who had left the guild and was walking through the streets.

"Follow him, find an opportunity, deliver him to the Southern War Zone Headquarters, and do them a favor in passing."

"Won't this offend the Dynasty?"

"Just a mere Pawn, not that important!"

"Understood!"

The office returned to its previous calm.

"Chirp!"

Pure Light Sparrow Xiao Jiu cheerfully chirped on Chen Fei's shoulder.

After sharing over a dozen glasses of alcoholic beverages, its tiny body was somewhat tipsy.

"Grilled bird skewers for sale, delicious grilled bird skewers, one Star Yuan per skewer, what a deal!"

"Young man, interested in joining a team? 'Lightning Willow' team is recruiting, with guaranteed benefits."

"Hey there, young man, want some fun? Five hundred Star Yuan for a great time!"

...

Amidst the various cries of traders plying their wares, many Mercenary Corps teams still took interest in Chen Fei, walking alone on the streets.

Mercenaries huddled together for warmth, moving as a group, with lone wolves being a rare sight. To take on lucrative missions, superior numbers were the winning ticket, and despite competition within the industry, every team was desperate to recruit newcomers to the field.

He found a decent-looking inn and settled the matter of personal accommodation.

Despite having a Mobile Base Vehicle in his "Spatial Branding" which could provide lodging no matter where he went, the vehicle was far too conspicuous. Instead, it was better to spend a few hundred Star Yuan on a clean and tidy room that wouldn't attract attention.

After completing the check-in process and receiving his key, he entered the guest room.

It was only after closing the door that Chen Fei noticed a note on the desk in the room, with something written on it.

He walked over and picked it up for a closer look.

"Beware of Holy Blood"

The note contained only four characters.

Chen Fei nonchalantly crumpled the note into a ball and when he opened his hand again, the palm-sized piece of paper turned into sandy fragments, scattering into the waste bin.

This inn was not chosen at random; it was one of the Slan Dynasty's Imperial Security Department's "Safe Houses".

From the moment Chen Fei entered Sun Domain City, he naturally fell under the gaze of the Dynasty's Investigative Agents. Even after he visited the "Holy Blood Guild", he remained within the surveillance net of the Security Department, his every action watched, including the conversations in the partitioned areas of the spy hall.

Seeing this piece of paper, Chen Fei knew that the "Holy Blood Guild" he had just visited had not given up. Since they hadn't managed to gain anything from him, they might well turn around and sell him out to curry favor with the Rebel Army.

In the Zilu Continent, the circle of mercenaries inherently lacked firm allegiances—whomever provided milk was mother. Fighting for the Rebel Army for the sake of Star Yuan was not strange at all.

"Knock, knock, knock!"

Someone knocked on the door of the guest room.

"Who is it?"

Chen Fei stretched out his finger, teasing the chin of the Little Bird on his shoulder, and then pointed towards the door.

"Chirp?... Chirp!"

The little guy cocked his head to one side, quickly catching on.

A screen of light appeared out of thin air, revealing the scene outside the room door. There stood a young woman dressed provocatively, her eyes darting around. She knocked again and said in a coy voice, "Little brother, are you alone?"

"Is there something you need?"

Chen Fei observed the scene through the Light Mirror Spell without any intention of approaching the door, let alone opening it for her.

To him, the actions, expressions, and tone of the woman outside were in stark contradiction—it was clear she disliked what she was doing, yet she forcibly assumed a flirtatious demeanor.

Her acting skills definitely needed some polishing!

"Could I come in to talk? I'm alone too!"

They came with ill intentions, apparently intending to discuss life and dreams.

Chen Fei was not interested in flirting and firmly denied her entry.

"I'm tired. If there's nothing important, please do not disturb me!"

The young woman outside was clearly startled. Was she expected to strip for him and then be dismissed with just that?

Her expression changed several times before she adopted a shy demeanor.

"Then, little brother, do you need someone to warm your bed?"

Her lines were as clichéd as those spoken by prostitutes.

After she finished, her expression twisted with disgust at her own words. In the corridor, a few heads peeped from a nearby room, watching intently. Someone even gave her a thumbs-up to encourage her.

Chen Fei paused for a moment before saying, "The outdoor temperature today is 34 degrees Celsius with a humidity of 76%."

Offering to warm a bed in this hot and humid weather? What sort of outlandish suggestion was that? Did she not realize the absurdity?

Her mind must be twisted—she should take her nonsense as far away as possible and cool down wherever she could.

The young woman outside stood dumbfounded for a moment, and then, like a fierce little cat, began pounding on the door, yelling, "Open the door! You jerk!"

At another room nearby, the heads peeking out shared a look of secondhand embarrassment.

"I knew it! Lulisa can't handle it. Look, she messed it up again!"

"After all, she is a tomboy!"

"Shh, don't let Lulisa hear you, or you'll be in trouble."

"Let it go, let it go, time to pull back!"

The onlookers showed no intention to intervene, allowing their comrade to vent her frustration at the door of another guest room.

Suddenly, without warning, a dark spot appeared on the door being hammered by little fists and rapidly grew larger. A red light flashed, and a conspicuous beam shot through the door, narrowly missing the young woman's face by mere inches and striking the opposite wall of the corridor.

By the time she realized what had just happened, the woman who had been venting her anger at the door was slumped on the ground by the door, looking as white as a deflated balloon.

If that sudden beam had hit her head, her fate would unlikely have been much better than that of the now-punctured door.

"Oh oh oh, did you see that? Quick, get Lulisa back here!"

"The guy inside really went for it, Lulisa nearly got killed!"

"Doesn't he have any mercy for women?"

The young woman's companions looked at each other before no longer holding back. They swarmed out of the room and clumsily dragged her back inside.

This young group seemed to consist of only about four or five people.

"Peace at last!"

Chen Fei sat in front of the desk and heaved a helpess sigh.

Taking his gaze away from the still-shut door, he refocused his attention on the intelligence data interface that the artificial intelligence AI "Adam" had opened for him.
