Chapter 80 -80 Who Would Ride in This Car as a Decent Person?_1

“Could it be that I’m cursed by the legendary ‘Crimson King’?”

Thinking about his reaction, Colin couldn’t help but feel his heart race, sensing that from the last five minutes, his memory had become somewhat incoherent.

Segment by segment, each time he came back to his senses it was as if there had been a jump in time, or rather a frame drop—missing a stretch of the process, directly arriving at the result.

Gathering his thoughts, he looked up at the ancient train that had come to a slow stop…

The train’s body was coated with a layer of reddish-brown paint that had somewhat faded, countless gears moving slowly, heavy and bulky wheels, exposed metal pipes spewing steam; the entire train was like a colossal metal beast radiating a unique sense of power that instinctively inspired awe.

But upon closer inspection, Colin found that on the mottled and faded paint surface, there were bullet holes, shell craters, claw marks, bite impressions, blood-stained handprints, and traces of corrosion by some liquid, involuntarily provoking thoughts of what it had possibly endured…

“If someone told me this train had traveled from a steampunk world to the Middle Eastern battlefield and then passed through a zombie world before returning, I’d believe them.”

Colin’s gaze shifted to the window, but behind the misty glass, it was unclear what exactly was there, only able to discern through the dust-covered window a scattering of passenger silhouettes taking seats in various parts of the carriage.

From this angle, there seemed to be quite a few people inside.

Yet something felt off—Colin narrowed his eyes and quickly noticed the figures were sitting too rigidly, unnaturally still, which was distinctly eerie and unsettling.

Before he could ponder further, the train door “snap” opened to one side.

The high-speed train’s electronic display showed the time at exactly 23:15:00.

Not a minute more, not a minute less.

Colin’s gaze followed the opening of the door, looking inside, but unfortunately, just like with the windows, he couldn’t clearly see what was there.

To avoid getting distracted again and being affected by the “Crimson King” effect, ultimately missing the time to board the train, he suppressed the unease in his heart, stepped forward, and walked towards the train door shrouded in a hazy yellow light.

In this process, he remained vigilant, prepared for any unexpected occurrences.

But until he stepped through the doorway, danger did not manifest…

And moreover, the moment his body fully crossed into the train’s doorway, Colin suddenly felt as though he was surfacing from underwater, the whole world instantly becoming clear.

Then, he immediately scanned the interior of the train and was taken aback.

The carriage space was very spacious, obviously at least twice as large as a regular high-speed rail car.

There were a total of seventeen rows, six seats each, three on the left and three on the right, and because the train itself was quite wide, it didn’t look crowded, resembling business-class or first-class seating.

As for the interior decor, it adopted a luxurious and retro style, featuring hardwood flooring in brownish-yellow, warm and soft yellow gas lamps, and brass-framed red velvet cushioned seats with exquisite carvings…

And on the seat at the left rear, Colin saw seven people.

“Colleagues? They don’t quite seem like it…”

Colin’s nostrils twitched, identifying from their scent that they should all be ordinary people, but on second thought, what kind of ordinary people would be in a place like this? Whether they were colleagues or not, since they didn’t seem to be talking, it was better not to acknowledge them.

After all, who in their right mind would board this train?

Immediately, he withdrew his gaze, intending to find a seat to sit down, but he abruptly realized something was wrong—when he was outside the train, he had clearly seen from the window that there were passengers throughout the carriage.

Now, though, aside from those seven people sitting together, he couldn’t see any other “passengers”.

“No, that spot they are in looked to have only one or two people just now…”

Colin frowned realizing the situation was not simple.

However, regardless of the circumstances, an inexplicable instinct told him he needed to find a seat quickly.

“I remember that the positions with ‘people’ were two in the fifth row, one on the right side by the window in the sixth row, the seventh row on the left was full, and there were a few ‘people’ in the rows after the eighth, but I can’t recall the exact spots…”

While pondering, Colin walked toward the third row on the right, where he had confirmed from the outside that all the nearby seats were empty, with no “shadows”.

After confirming there were no issues, he carefully took a seat…

“Deadly Insight” did not trigger.

No danger occurred…

Safe landing?

“I also wonder what would happen if I sat in one of those seats with shadows.”

Colin was somewhat curious, and part of him wanted to try summoning a hundred-dollar “Good Brother” through “Slave to Money” to see what would happen if it took a seat.

But upon second thought, he abandoned this bold idea.

He decided it was best to follow the guidance of his heart and not to attempt such needless experiments.

He was starting to realize…

The level of danger in events at home might be even more terrifying than in the Other World. It seemed more orderly and rule-governed here, so as long as one followed the rules, nothing should go wrong.

Afterward, he looked around the carriage with caution, noting that the view from inside the carriage to the outside was clear, and everything in the subway station was visible. There was no difficulty in seeing.

Ding ding ding——

A series of urgent bell sounds suddenly rang out continuously.

The train door slammed shut.

Then, the carriage shook lightly but noticeably, and the scene outside the window started to move backward as the Mist Train, which had been stationary for nearly ten minutes, began to depart.

As the train started moving, Colin noticed that the previously clear scenery outside the window was rapidly overwhelmed by thick white fog.

He didn’t linger on the disquieting white mist for long and withdrew his gaze.

“Speaking of which, what’s the deal with that group of people?”

Colin couldn’t shake the feeling that those seven or eight people seemed just like ordinary people, with nothing special about them.

But would a real ordinary person board such a train?

He remained somewhat skeptical at heart.

With a wary mind, Colin silently pricked up his ears, listening to what was happening behind him.

After ten minutes or so, his expression subtly started to change—

“Brother Xiao, are we really not getting off just now? There’s something off about this train, isn’t it almost two to three times bigger inside than the subway we took earlier? Could we have gotten on the wrong one?”

“What’s there to be wrong about? Isn’t it just a themed carriage? I think you just haven’t been on high-speed trains or subways much, so you haven’t seen it… Isn’t this like, a Steampunk World themed carriage?”

“Right, why get off now? If we get off now, we’d have to wait until tomorrow. I didn’t see you drinking much either, just three bottles of Budweiser and you’re out of it? After ten o’clock, there’s only this last train, and I, your Sister, could not possibly board the wrong one even with my eyes closed. Rest assured!”

“Exactly, I think you’re just dizzy from the drink…”

“Forget it, you guys do have a point… Oh right, Brother Xiao, let me borrow your paper later in the dorm to, uh, have a look through…”

“Wow, look outside the window, the fog is coming up again…”

In front of them, Colin sat properly in his seat, his expression growing increasingly peculiar.

From the conversation, it seemed they really were a group of college students from a nearby university, who had eaten a late-night snack and caught the last train, coincidentally getting on board.

Although they caught the train, unfortunately, it was not the one going to the university.
