Chapter 63 -63: Join the Hunt!_1

“The collecting is efficient enough, but when it comes to rescue, they dawdle, only willing to come once the countdown is over.”

Colin was frustrated but helpless, and had no choice but to turn and follow the scent of the next Second Order ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ victim.

In the ranks of ordinary soldiers, handling First Order ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ wasn’t too much trouble.

But if they encountered a Second Order ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ that had undergone significant qualitative change and lacked someone of Calder’s caliber to lead the team, they were likely to be wiped out.

Meanwhile, chaos reigned in Black Stone City, with civilians running frantically in all directions, terrified by the threat of the Beast Transformation Syndrome.

“Today, I, Colin, join the hunt!”

Colin quipped quietly to himself and then, shouldering the ‘Contrarian’, moved against the direction of the fleeing crowd, charging forward.

His busy life began with a series of travels and hunts.

Several hours passed quickly, and Colin, by various means combined with the corresponding tools, had killed no fewer than ten Second Order ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ victims. He also suffered some minor injuries, with a congealed blood scratch across his chest.

It was a mishap while dealing with a Second Order beast. He had fired three shots into its head, thinking he had killed it. Approaching closer, he was shocked to find the bullets had only lodged in the skull, neither penetrating nor fatal.

As he drew near, the beast that was playing dead suddenly lunged, and Colin nearly had a chunk of flesh torn off by the ambush.

“9mm bullets can’t even penetrate the skull anymore; the heads of Second Order beasts really are tougher than iron.”

Sitting by a window on the third floor, Colin applied some Yunnan White Medicine to stop the bleeding, then looked up again, casting his remaining attention toward the grand Pristine Chapel in the heart of Black Stone City.

It seemed that after the daytime cry that triggered a surge of ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’, nothing else had happened.

Everything seemed to have quieted down.

After the initial outbreak, it seemed to lose its vigor and could no longer rise to the occasion.

“Something feels off.”

Colin watched the still church, pondering whether or not to send some people to scout it out.

However, as soon as this thought surfaced, a piercing scream echoed in his mind.

Followed by…

Shrieks erupted from various parts of Black Stone City once again.

“I barely mention you’re not performing, and here you come, right?”

Colin rubbed his forehead, jumped straight out of the window, fell three stories and landed with a thud, then continued toward those locations.

This time, the number of ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ incidents was much less than the first wave during the day.

In just two or three hours, Colin and the others had pretty much cleared up the mess.

And shortly after he had resolved the situation, darkness suddenly fell before his eyes.

Following that, Colin felt enveloped by an indescribable sense of oppression within.

Night had fallen.

Bonfires lit up inside the city, brightening every corner of Black Stone City, while outside it was pitch black.

And with the arrival of night, no more ‘Beast Transformation Syndrome’ sufferers appeared.

“We’ve survived the first wave,” Colin sighed with relief upon returning to the castle.

What he feared most now was that the creature would reach its final form, break all constraints, and escape from the chapel—that would truly be ‘Game Over.’

However, even if such an incident had not occurred, today the chaos alone spawned by the “Beast Transformation Syndrome” claimed the lives of over three hundred people, with another five to six hundred sustaining injuries of varying severity.

This was the outcome despite being prepared. Had we done nothing yesterday, there likely wouldn’t be many survivors now.

“You’ve worked hard, Lord Colin, as have the rest of you, knights.”

Helena’s figure appeared in the great hall, followed by maids carrying various kinds of food, which to Colin didn’t look particularly appealing.

But nobody cared about the taste right now; they were all ravishing after a whole day’s hustle.

“Thank you for the warning yesterday. Without it, we would probably all be dead by now,” Warden Calder approached Colin, expressing his sincere gratitude.

At the moment, he himself didn’t look too good, with a new claw mark on his face and his left hand missing his little and ring fingers, bitten off by a Second Order “Beast Transformation Syndrome” creature.

But he was still one of the luckier ones…

Those less fortunate had already gone to meet their Maker.

In the hall, aside from Helena and some attendants, everyone was wounded.

“It’s nothing. Get some rest soon and prepare for tomorrow.”

Colin had little desire to talk. He grabbed something to eat and planned to find a place to rest.

After a whole day of continuous travel and fighting, he was somewhat overwhelmed.

But just as he was about to stand up, Helena approached him.

“If there’s something you need, just say it. I need to rest,” Colin sat back down and asked directly without any pleasantries.

He believed that this woman wouldn’t approach him at this time just to exchange pleasantries.

“…I heard you might possess a rather special relic from the Church of Light?”

A relic from the Church of Light? Colin was momentarily puzzled, then quickly thought of the Bone Spur…

If there was anything related to the Church of Light on him, it could only be that Bone Spur.

Without overthinking it, he nodded, “I do, what about it?”

“Please excuse my boldness, I was wondering if, once the disaster in Black Stone City has passed, I could trade for that item with something else…”

After a pause, Helena added, “It has some special significance to me.”

Can I take it that you intend to charge me an exorbitant price for it with that last sentence?

“If you can provide me with a suitable item capable of lethal attacks, I don’t mind trading,” Colin responded indifferently, ready to trade if she really came up with a better offensive item.

“An item capable of lethal attacks? Thank you,” Helena bowed slightly, then turned and left.

Colin uttered a casual “Don’t mention it,” but as he watched her departing figure, he began to guard against her—just in case he actually survived to the end, he would have to be careful of her stabbing him in the back.

However, given the current situation in Black Stone City, he had no worries about her tripping him up for now.

“Now there are 134 hours left for Mission 5, not much time left, just over five days. Now that ‘Time’ in the ‘Book of Fate’ has passed, I can open the ‘Book of Fate’ to check the situation.”

Colin contemplated as he stood up and walked towards a room prepared for him in the castle, intending to rest for an hour or two to alleviate his fatigue.

His body could go without sleep for a long while, but he needed at least a bit of rest.

But before sleeping, he had to use the “Book of Fate” first, to get a rough foresight of upcoming events.
