Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Giant Crystal

They pulled themselves out of the water, both soaking wet and gasping for breath. Axelius sat on a flat rock, leaning back and breathing heavily, water dripping from his hair and clothes.

"Geez," Owen muttered, bouncing beside him. "I was actually worried back there. You can’t hold your breath that long, you know."

Axelius chuckled, his breath still uneven. "But I can," he said with a grin. "I can even manage to stay underwater longer. Look—"

He started leaning toward the pool like he was going to dive back in.

Owen immediately stretched up and slapped his slimey arm across Axelius’s chest, stopping him. "Idiot! We’re lucky there were no monsters in there! Let’s just try to get out of here before something wakes up or smells us."

Axelius pouted, flopping back dramatically. "Ugh, you’re so boring, Owen."

"Thanks," Owen replied with a roll of his gooey eyes.

After they caught their breath, the two began walking through the dim rocky tunnel, their wet shoes and gooey body making little slapping sounds with each step.

Soon, they entered another opening—this one much wider—and what they saw made Axelius freeze with wide sparkling eyes.

"Dang... Look at this place!" Axelius shouted, his voice echoing in the cave.

Piles of gold coins were stacked like small mountains, glittering even in the faint light. Gems sparkled from open chests, Chests full of golds, Swords and crowns and jewelry were scattered everywhere. The whole place looked like something from a pirate’s dream.

"Don’t touch anything!" Owen snapped, floating up nervously. "This could be a trap!"

But Axelius had already reached for a small treasure chest and shoved it into Owen’s body. "Just put this in the inventory! Come on, let’s do this fast and get outta here! Hehehe... money, money, money!"

"Hey!" Owen shouted as the chest disappeared into his inventory space. "Now you love money?!"

While Axelius kept stuffing random shiny things into Owen, the slime grumbled but didn’t stop him—his body automatically sent each item into the inventory.

Axelius grinned as he threw in a handful of glowing gems. "In this world, money is important, unlike in Earth where food and clean water were the real treasures. Here? You need coins to live! At least now I’ve got my own money, right?"

Owen paused, thinking about it, then shrugged—or did the slime version of a shrug. "Okay... fine. That actually makes sense." freёweɓnovel.com

With that, Owen started helping, bouncing around and scooping up a few rings and smaller treasures with his body while Axelius cheered him on like a greedy little goblin.

"Teamwork makes the money work!" Axelius sang, laughing.

"Yeah, yeah... until a cursed gold golem wakes up and smashes us," Owen muttered.

"Don’t jinx it!" Axelius shouted, tossing a silver crown in next.

Axelius’s eyes sparkled like he was possessed by gold fever, and he stood up suddenly with excitement, pointing both hands "Would you look at that?!"

Owen bounce up beside him and followed Axelius’s gaze until he saw it too—a huge glowing ball of crystal sitting on a short pedestal of stone, about four feet tall, with strange runes glowing faintly around its base.

"What is that?" Owen asked, narrowing his eyes and bobbing forward.

"What else? A giant crystal! Come on, Owen, move over here—let’s put this in the inventory too!" Axelius called out, already making his way toward it, eyes gleaming with greed and curiosity.

Owen frowned and backed away a little. "Nah! That’s too big! And we already have enough! This is getting dangerous, Axel. Let’s leave while we still can."

But Axelius wasn’t listening. He was already climbing onto the side of the glowing crystal, standing proudly on it like some kind of explorer who just discovered a new continent.

He clasped his hands together, begging with exaggerated eyes. "Just this one, Owen! Pleeease! Look at it—it’s beautiful! You gotta admit it’s beautiful!"

Owen hovered closer, squinting. "Is that even a crystal?" he muttered. "It looks weird..."

Axelius moved to the side, trying to hug the giant crystal and push it off the pedestal. But before he could push hard, the crystal suddenly lit up brighter, glowing from the inside with a strange warmth, making Axelius yelp and stumble backward.

"Okay—what was that?!" he said, blinking and stepping away quickly.

Then Owen’s eyes widened, and he bounce higher to get a better view. "Hey! There’s something inside it—it’s an egg, you idiot! Move, move! If there’s an egg in there, that means a monster’s nearby! We gotta go!"

But Axelius grinned even wider, his playful side kicking in again. "Then this egg is mine! Hahaha!"

Owen panicked and looked around, checking the shadows and the dark ceiling of the cave, but Axelius didn’t care—he ran toward the crystal egg again and started pushing it, hugging it tightly like a giant rock as he rolled it slowly across the cave floor.

"Come on, Owen, help me! Move closer!" he shouted, sweat on his face and joy in his voice.

Owen was practically shaking. "Damn it, Axel! You’re gonna kill me early with all this crazy stuff!"

Axelius just laughed loudly, still rolling and rolling, but then—without warning—the egg started moving on its own. A faint rumble echoed through the cave as small cracks began forming on the glowing surface.

"It’s hatching!" Axelius shouted with excitement, eyes shining.

"No, it’s not! It’s just reacting! Just hurry up and drop it!" Owen yelled, not sure if he should help or run.

"What if it breaks?!"

But Axelius didn’t drop it—he hugged the egg even tighter. His fingers brushed against one of the jagged edges of the cracked crystal and suddenly, a sharp pain shot through him. A small cut appeared on his finger, thin but deep, and a drop of his blood smeared on the side of the glowing surface.

Right after that... the egg began to shimmer strangely.

And then, in just one blink, the entire egg vanished into thin air—like it was never there—leaving only a glowing symbol floating in the air for a second before that, too, disappeared.

Axelius stood there with his mouth open, still holding the space where the egg had been, completely shocked.

"What...? What just happened?! My egg... It’s gone?!" he said, staring at his hand in disbelief.

Owen speechless for a moment, then finally said, "Yeah... we are definitely cursed now."
