Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family-Chapter 309: Shadow Heirarchy
"Boss Michael, we have some news."
Narito and Sasuki appeared in Michael's room. The two Orc Shadow Chieftains bowed in respect towards him while doing their respective rituals.
"The Bastard Bandits have shown a lot of movement these past few days. They have started to send out their men towards the forest, setting camp in a single line towards the East, bu to to."
"We think that they will target the Golden Road that we are about to build there. The rumors that we spread have successfully led them where we want them to strike, rah ta ta."
Michael nodded, satisfied with the two's reports. Thankfully, he had these Shadow Orcs to help him deal with actual reconnaissance and spying. After all, he knew that Fudge had been playing around too much to actually do a ninja's job, even though he proclaimed himself as the best one.
And with the human bandit spies that they had planted weeks earlier, they were able to spread information that the Golden Road would be built just beside the cliff of the mountain.
Of course, Michael chose this location because it was in a neutral territory, not too close and not too far away from the Bastard Bandits' hideout. His real goal was them, not the Golden Road. That can be arranged later when all of this was over.
"What more have you found out?" he asked them.
"They were recently visited by a representative from Flarecorp, verifying the intel that they were offered to become subservient to them," Narito said.
"Did you know what they talked about?"
"We only heard bits and pieces of it, boss. Unfortunately, this visit from the Flarecorp representative was not anticipated. So, only our Mid Shadows were assigned to the mission," Sasuki said, with a bit of shame in his voice.
The Shadow of Orcs had a hierarchy they followed.
At the very bottom of the chain was the Genin or the Low Shadows. These were the people that only had the D to C class talent in the Shadow.
Because of that, the skills and spells they could learn from Michael were only simply shadow spells that were strong against normal individuals, but could easily be detected by strong people like the Bandit Leader.
They could only learn spells like [Lesser Shadow Clone] which was only limited to about 10 clones at max, and [Lesser Shadow Attachment] which was easily noticeable by people when they looked at the ground and saw a completely different silhouette.
So usually, the missions assigned to Low Shadows would be mundane spy tasks like listening to gossip around a territory or patrolling the territories of Reborn during the day and night. These were missions that needed to be done, but weren't all that important in the grand scheme of things.
There were about 10,000 or so members in this rank. Although, this number was a bit inflated because of the new recruits being initiated into the Shadows after Michael consolidated the territory of the Grafted Cluster and the shadows found talented individuals.
New recruits were mandated to be added into this rank whether they have good talent or not.
Once they showed themselves as worthy and they were able to complete some missions, then they could graduate to become a Chunin or a Mid Shadow.
Those recruits that stayed in this rank were mostly those who had C to B class talents in the shadows, allowing themselves to be given much more complicated Shadow skills that allowed for more secrecy and stealth.
Michael usually assigned these Shadows specific missions like infiltrating the Bastard Bandits or spying on the next territory they would go to next. These were harder missions, but completely doable.
The members on this rank were only about 4,000 Shadows in total, mostly of Orcanine and Orcupine Orcs.
After Shadows proved themselves even further, then they could be promoted to Jonin or High Shadow.
Now, this rank were only reserved to those that had really good talent in the Shadows, mostly in the B to A rank.
The skills they could learn in this rank was enough to hide from most targets, allowing for them to become completely invisible from most eyes.
The missions they were assigned were high-class missions that were potentially dangerous and could affect the Reborn company as a whole. This included reconnaissance and spying high-class targets such as the officers of the Bastard Bandits. They were also assigned protection services for important people that Michael wanted protected like the Duke and other such allies.
There were only about 1,000 Shadows in this rank.
Now further this rank was something that cannot just be achieved through talent. They needed to be chosen by Fudge or Michael himself.
The Elite Shadow Force. These were the 10 or so Shadows that showed exceptional will to help Reborn in all their endeavors, no matter the cost. Narito and Sasuki, the two former Orc Chieftains, used this taskforce for missions that needed extreme secrecy and accuracy.
If one of those ten Elite Shadows had been in the Bastard Bandits' cave, then they could have infiltrated the conversation between the Bandit Leader and the Flarecorp representative without anyone noticing.
"It's fine. It's not like you could have known it beforehand. What's important is that we know what they're doing next," Michael said to the Chieftains.
The two Orcs bowed their heads to Michael. "We will do better, boss! After this misstep, we doubled our forces infiltrated by the Bastard Bandits, even using the Elite Shadow Force to watch their every move."
"We found out that their leader, Wano, is desperate to summon the Pixie Queen. He hopes that by scaring us Rebornians, our emotions can be enough of a bait for Her to show up," Sasuki reported.
And with that regards, Michael agreed. He wanted to meet with the Pixie Queen anyways, so he decided to let the Bandits go ahead with their plans for now.
"Have you seen any signs of the Fairies?"
The two Shadow Orcs shook their heads. "None yet, boss. Everything's quiet with no incident. But worry not, the Elite Shadow Force will find them one way or another."
…
…
…
Back in the Bastard Bandits' hideout, the cave was afoot with hurried steps and busy ramblings. They were rushing to complete their preparations in the forest, creating more tunnels and traps under the ground for them to use later.
To bad for them, there were Shadow Orcs spying over them during the night.
And during the day, when the sun was at its zenith, they didn't know that there were small bits of light under the sun that were looking over at them with mischievous smiles. The sound of the wind howling at them was really just the sound of Fairies laughing to themselves with giddy joy.
"Hihihi, they're serving us a platter again yippee!"
"Food! Give us some delicious human emotions!"
These Fairies were about as small as a finger, with most of them wearing almost moss-like dresses and clothes. Their entire bodies glowed a slight golden color, with yellow dust falling off them and dissipating in the wind.
