Chapter 506: Borders of Unity ( 506 )

After the last traces of darkness faded, Javier lowered his hand casually.

With a flick of his wrist, he opened a small magic window beside him.

“Unsummon – White Puppet Knights.”

The twenty gleaming knights immediately dissolved into streams of white light, vanishing without a sound, leaving the field clean and empty.

Javier exhaled softly, turning his gaze toward Buddy.

He rested one hand lazily on his hip, tilting his head.

“So?” he asked casually. “We going or camping?”

Buddy tilted his head to the side, flapping his wings lightly in thought.

No answer.

Javier chuckled.

“Hmm… alright then.

We’re going to the border wall.”

Cuquawked!!

Buddy squawked loudly in agreement, hopping twice .

Without rushing, Javier mounted Buddy again.

He patted Buddy’s neck.

“You’re not tired, right, Buddy?”

Cuquawked!

( No! )

Buddy puffed his chest proudly.

avier smiled lightly.

“Alright, just slowly, okay?

Let’s enjoy the scenery and the night sky.”

Cuquawked!

Buddy responded happily, began to move slowly.

The road ahead stretched endlessly under the starry sky.

The battle behind them faded into memory.

And for now.

it was just a boy, his loyal Pekko, and the wide, open world.

The stars sparkled above like scattered diamonds.

The cool breeze brushed past Javier’s face as he leaned slightly forward, enjoying the calm rhythm of Buddy’s movement.

After several hours of slow, steady riding under the stars,

Javier and Buddy finally approached the towering structure looming in the distance.

The first town wall.

The border gate checkpoint.

The last fortified town under the Beastkin Kingdom’s protection before reaching the Dwarven frontier.

Buddy slowed naturally, sensing the change in atmosphere.

Torches lined the outer walls, casting a warm glow across the stone structures.

As they neared the main gate, still firmly closed. A smaller door embedded within the massive wooden structure swung open.

A guard, clad in reinforced leather armor and bearing a sharp spear, stepped forward.

He raised a hand in greeting.

“Welcome. We were informed about the arrival of a human from the Armand Household,” He said respectfully.

The guard’s sharp eyes briefly scanned Javier and Buddy, noting the Armand emblem clearly displayed on Javier’s travel cloak.

Javier nodded politely in return.

“Thank you.”

He reached casually into his magic storage, about to retrieve his identification card and travel permit.

But the guard quickly shook his head.

“No need, Sir Javier.

We were already informed about you by higher command.

You are cleared for passage.”

Javier blinked once, a little amused.

They really went all out for me, huh?

He gave a small, casual smile.

“Alright then. I’ll be in your care.”

“Please come in.”

The guard stepped aside, motioning respectfully with his spear.

Buddy trotted forward confidently, his heavy steps echoing slightly on the paved ground as they passed through the smaller entry door.

Inside, the fortified town bustled with quiet life, merchants packing up their stalls, soldiers patrolling rooftops, small taverns still glowing warmly at the corners.

It wasn’t grand like a capital city.

But it was strong.

Well-guarded.

A true frontline town.

Javier exhaled lightly, feeling the tension in the air.

As Javier and Buddy made their way deeper into the town,

a beastkin man in polished armor stepped forward from a side path.

He was taller than most, broad-shouldered, with a short military cape draped over his back.

From his insignia, it was clear he was the town guard captain.

“Sir Javier, welcome again.

We were notified by our King to escort you around the town if needed.”

Javier waved his hand casually, offering a small smile.

“Ah, I don’t need an escort.”

The captain chuckled lightly.

“Very well.

But at least allow me to accompany you until you decide to cross the border.”

Javier thought for a moment, then nodded.

“Very well.”

They walked side-by-side through the lamp-lit streets, Buddy following obediently behind with calm, heavy steps.

After a moment of quiet, the beastkin captain spoke up.

“Since our border wall covers most of the frontier between us and the Dwarven Region, stretching even near the Human Kingdom and Halfling Kingdom, let me tell you in advance.”

Javier glanced sideways, listening carefully.

“The Dwarven Kingdom is currently at war with both the Human Kingdom and the Halfling Kingdom.

Tensions are extremely high.

Our King has ordered all soldiers to stay prepared nearby this town.”

Javier raised an eyebrow slightly, unsurprised.

“Oh…

No wonder I saw some lights not too far from here,” he said casually.

The captain nodded.

“Yes.

Those are temporary camps set up by our generals.

There are several camps, but I’m afraid I can’t disclose their exact locations.

Orders.”

Javier chuckled lightly.

“Ah, don’t worry about that.”

The captain smiled, relieved by Javier’s easygoing response.

“Yes.

And thank you for your understanding.”

They continued walking under the quiet night sky.

The road to the Dwarven Kingdom was close.

As they continued walking,

Javier glanced sideways at the beastkin captain.

“So… what’s the situation in this town?”

The captain responded without hesitation.

“High alert, Sir Javier.

Most of the people you see here now are soldiers, frontline units, support forces, and some military merchants.

The inns nearby have been requisitioned temporarily under the royal force’s authority.”

Javier raised an eyebrow slightly.

“Hmm?

What about the inn owners?”

The captain smiled faintly.

“No need to worry about that.

Our kingdom pays the owners fair rent.

And the other civilians , those who lived here permanently were moved temporarily to safer towns deeper within Beastkin territory.

It’s to ensure no civilian casualties if anything happens.”

Javier fell silent for a moment, his sharp eyes scanning the town.

noting the increased number of patrols, the fortified outposts, the tension hanging faintly in the air.

Finally, he nodded lightly.

“It’s a good plan,” he said simply.

“We don’t know when the enemy might try to take advantage.

So a precaution like that… is necessary.”

The captain’s chest puffed slightly with pride.

“Thank you, Sir Javier.

We do our best.”

Buddy trotted quietly beside them, sniffing the air but staying alert.

The group continued toward the central district.

Where a larger military outpost had been established just behind the main border gate.

“Since the Armand Region, the Beastkin Kingdom, the Elven Kingdom, and the Demon Kingdom have already signed the alliance pact…”

he paused slightly, glancing at Javier.

“It’s good to know that when we are attacked,

help from the other kingdoms and the Armand Region ill come for us.

It strengthens our morale.

It gives the soldiers hope.”

“it’s a great relief for us here on the border.”

Javier nodded slightly, his expression calm.

The pact It was a true military and defensive alliance.

One meant to stand against the growing threat of the Human Kingdom’s corrupted ambitions and whatever dark celestial forces stirred behind them.

Javier glanced up at the stars briefly.

“Good allies are worth more than a thousand soldiers,” he said casually.

The captain smiled.

“Indeed, Sir Javier.

It strengthens the men’s hearts just knowing we are not alone.”

The fortified town, though heavy with soldiers and preparations, somehow felt lighter after those words.

A bond of trust.

A shared resolve.
