Reborn As Noble-Chapter 482: Wives, Words, and Worry ( )
Chapter 482: Wives, Words, and Worry ( 482 )
While the meat kept sizzling over the grill, Buddy stood beside it like a guard, eyes fixed on the juicy slices. Every little sizzle made him twitch.
“Cuquawked…” (Just a little more…)
Javier pretended he didn’t see buddy was near the grill drooling and reached into his magic storage . He pulled out a small silver disk engraved with runes. With a flick of his wrist, he tossed it into the air.
The disk opened with a soft click, and the drone unfolded its wings, glowing slightly as it flew high into the sky.
Javier put on his magic glasses, slim and enchanted to see what the drone was showing. He tapped the side, synced the view.
The forest stretched wide beneath him, green and quiet. The lenses showed terrain, movement, and any signs of mana distortion.
So far, nothing.
Still quiet.
“Good,” Javier muttered.
Just to be safe, he summoned twenty mithril puppet knights, which landed beside him with solid thumps. Silent, still, waiting.
“Patrol the area. Two hundred meters. No alerts unless something enters range,” Javier ordered.
One puppet knight drew its blade and headed into the trees, vanishing into the woods without a sound.
The puppet patrol from last night had already gone back into storage. He only used them during the night when the monsters appeared.
During the day, he could relax.
Well, kind of.
He took off his glasses, folded them, and flipped another slice of meat.
The smell was strong. The smoke carried just the right amount of spice. His mouth was already watering.
Then he looked at the grill.
At all the meat he was cooking.
He sighed quietly.
He turned the next piece, the edges already turning golden brown. Buddy bounced happily, wings flapping at the smell.
“Cuquawked!!”
“Just wait, Buddy! Ugh! It’s not the first time you’ve eaten like this,” Javier muttered as he flipped the last piece.
Just before Buddy could squawk back, two familiar voices called from behind him.
“Nya~ meat!!!” Mimi shouted, running barefoot toward the grill with sparkling eyes.
“My~ good husband~,” Delya said gracefully, her towel still around her neck, her damp hair shining.
Javier didn’t look back.
“Who said I agreed to be your husband?” he snapped.
They froze in place.
He stood up, turned to them, and pointed.
“If Liana and Gloria don’t approve, then you two are just… annoying girls.”
Delya’s smile didn’t fade.
“My~ my~ how fierce. But that’s part of your charm,” she said softly.
Mimi crossed her arms. “Nya! I’ll make them approve! I’ll bring fish! All cats bring fish to win the family!”
Buddy made a short choking sound.
“Cuquawked.”
Javier sighed, and to shut them up, he handed Buddy the first plate of meat.
Both Mimi and Delya sat near the grill now, eyes fixed on the meat like hungry animals waiting for a signal.
Javier flipped another slice and placed the first serving on a plate. He looked around, then walked over and set it down in front of Buddy, who was already pacing excitedly in circles.
The big Pekko immediately leaned down and snatched the meat with his beak, letting out a satisfied squawk before sitting down to munch on it right there.
Delya, now watching Javier more carefully, tilted her head.
“Danna-sama?”
“What?”
She lazily pointed at the items around him—the towels, extra clothes, plates, and the portable grill.
“How did you bring all this? Did you stuff it all in bags and ride your Pekko like a mule?”
“Huh? Magic storage. Of course.”
“Oh~” she said, blinking with interest. “Rare skill, that one. Not everyone can use it. The last person on record with it appeared about a thousand years ago.”
“For real?”
“Yes~” She smiled sweetly. “Which means you’re perfect as my future husband.”
“Ugh! Not this again!”
“No, no~ You already agreed,” Delya replied in a sing-song tone. “And if you’re worried about your first and second wives’ blessings, don’t worry. I’ll personally make sure they say yes to me being your third.”
Mimi shot up beside her.
“Nya~! Then I’ll be fourth! No—wait! I wanna be third! You can be fourth!”
“I said it’s not a ranking system!!” Javier barked.
“Eat your breakfast now! Ugh!” Javier pointed sharply at the grilled meat.
“My~ demanding~ I love it,” Delya said with a smile and slowly reached for the meat, as if she enjoyed his reaction more than the food.
Javier stared at her, then took out a kettle. He filled it with water from a steel jug stored in his magic storage, pulled out some tea leaves, and a small jar of honey.
“Can you stop it already, Delya?” he said, voice low and serious.
“Ehhh~? Why~?” Delya tilted her head innocently.
Javier turned toward her, eyes serious now.
“If you don’t stop acting annoying, I might really start to dislike you and think of you as someone who’s just causing trouble.”
For the first time, Delya paused and blinked. Her playful smile faded a little, replaced by a softer look.
“Oh…” she murmured quietly. “I didn’t think you’d take it that seriously.”
Javier sighed.
“Well, now you know.”
Mimi sat quietly, nibbling on her grilled meat without a word. Buddy watched them, beak half-open, clearly sensing the sudden change in mood.
Javier turned back to the kettle, placing it over the grill, and waited quietly for the water to boil. The peaceful sound of the kettle and the crackling fire filled the air.
Nobody said anything more.
Delya went quiet, her playful mood calming down a little.
“Well, if Danna-sama says so…” she said softly, reaching for her plate and slowly starting to eat.
Mimi was already halfway through her second helping, chewing happily with her tail swaying behind her.
Javier saw how they reacted and quietly nodded to himself. He took out three cups from his magic storage, poured tea into each one, and added a little honey.
“Here,” he said, placing the cups in front of them. “Drink this.”
“Thank you, Danna-sama~,” Delya said softly, carefully holding her cup and blowing on the hot tea.
“Nya! Smells nice~,” Mimi said happily, grabbing her cup eagerly.
Javier took the last cup for himself and sat quietly, sipping his tea in silence. He watched the steam rise slowly, helping him relax.
Javier slowly lowered his cup and looked directly at Delya and Mimi.
“About this marriage stuff… We can talk about it properly once I’m an adult. Right now, we should focus on our mission, not arguing about who gets to be third or fourth,” he said calmly.
Delya blinked softly, quietly sipping her tea.
Javier added, “I still don’t know if Liana or Gloria will agree to any of this. If you’re serious about it, best talk to them directly after everything is done.”
Mimi’s ears twitched nervously, and her tail curled up close to her side.
“Nya… Are they really that scary?”
Javier nodded firmly.
“Very.”
Delya smiled gently.
“Then we’ll wait until this mission is finished, and talk with your two wives-to-be. I’m sure they’ll understand how serious we are.”
Javier sighed again, taking a quiet sip of his tea.
“I wouldn’t count on it.”
Buddy lazily opened one eye and squawked from where he was lying.
“Cuquawked.” (Good luck.)
