Chapter 822: Chapter 822: You are the Hero of Alice and Mom

As the morning light dawned, Catherine Ford opened her eyes.

Alice was still asleep next to her. Catherine got up and began to pack things. By eight o’clock, she sent a message to Benjamin Jones, who replied with a simple "okay." She breathed a heavy sigh of relief, woke Alice up, wrapped the little girl in a thick down jacket, covered her face, then held Alice’s hand with one hand and carried the luggage with the other as they went downstairs, only to run into Foster Newman searching for them at the doorstep.

Catherine’s heart clenched, but seeing that he was mostly sober and it was broad daylight, she felt less panicked than before. With a cold glance, she picked up Alice intending to walk past Foster, but he grabbed her suitcase in passing.

"Let go," Catherine turned her head, looking at Foster who seemed disheveled as if he hadn’t slept all night.

"Catherine, let’s talk," Foster’s tone was much better than last night. Nonetheless, as soon as he spoke, Catherine felt Alice trembling in her arms.

The fear he instilled in mother and daughter had penetrated deep into their bones over these three years.

While Alice could tremble, Catherine could not.

From the moment she fought the divorce lawsuit with Foster, she knew she had to stay firm every day.

"There’s nothing to talk about between us, and I would appreciate if you do not disturb our lives anymore. If it happens again, I will still call the police," Catherine said, facing him squarely.

Foster’s repressed irritation flared up instantly. "Catherine Ford, don’t get too arrogant. I’m asking you if what Nancy said is true, did you hook up with some rich guy? Is it Lawyer Jones? I never saw you being so capable before. I always knew women were no good, you promiscuous bitch!"

While saying this, Foster raised his fist and swung at Catherine’s face. Having dealt with his unpredictable temper over the years, she was on alert the second he cursed, and when he raised his hand, she kicked the suitcase at him and ran away with Alice in her arms.

Foster doubled over from the impact to his lower body, cursing softly as he started to chase after them.

After a night of snowfall, Catherine walked outside and was greeted by a gust of icy wind that made her shiver, but she didn’t hesitate and clung tightly to Alice as they stepped on the thin layer of snow. Her phone in the bag started ringing, but she couldn’t care less and kept running desperately.

Due to the snowfall last night, there weren’t many cars in the morning. She ran while trying to hail a car, but none stopped. Foster had already caught up to her, grabbed her, and they both fell to the ground with Alice screaming. Mother and daughter fell softly onto the snowy ground, with Catherine instinctively protecting Alice, herself grunting from the impact.

Before the pain subsided, Foster kicked her in the back. Catherine whimpered in pain, and Alice, struggling, placed her little hands to protect her, looking at Foster with terror and rage, "Big meanie, don’t hit my mom, don’t hit my mom..."

Terrified yet defiant, Alice’s voice cracked with sobs as she protectively covered Catherine.

Catherine, in pain, held Alice close and stared hard at Foster, "Foster Newman, we are already divorced. If you dare touch me again, I’ll have you behind bars!"

"Is it because of you or your lover? You think I’m a fool? Did you even see what kind of man would fancy you? Come back with me quietly, otherwise, I will immediately tell your parents about our divorce, and about this child..." Foster said with a sinister smile.

Catherine shuddered uncontrollably, a flash of anguish crossed her face when she thought about her parents back home. She then gritted her teeth, glaring at Foster, "You’re despicable!"

How much she had been grateful to this man in front of her once, and now how much she detested him.

"Me, despicable? You’re the one who didn’t keep the promise," Foster said, a hint of triumph appearing on his face, confident that this woman wouldn’t escape his grasp.

Catherine Ford struggled to her feet and glared at him fiercely, "You can say whatever you want, I’ve had enough through these years, whether it’s about divorce or the child, just go ahead and speak."

She’d been manipulated for too long. If it were just herself, she really didn’t care, but not Alice.

If this entanglement continued, she was truly afraid that it might affect the child’s mental well-being.

Foster Newman looked at her with a shadowy gaze, "Aren’t you afraid that your parents will be laughed at by the whole village again? Don’t forget your younger brother isn’t married yet!"

Catherine Ford didn’t respond, enduring the pain as she held Alice in her arms. She could hear her parents’ repeated remarks ringing in her ears, "A divorce is a disgrace to our Ford family. How can mom and dad face others in the future? How will your brother find someone to marry? Why can’t you understand at your age, isn’t it embarrassing enough with the Gertrude incident?"

If they knew that child wasn’t even Foster Newman’s, who knows what they would do...

Once she cared about her parents’ words, but now she had more important things to protect. So parents, I’m sorry, she was about to let them down again.

"Say what you want to say." Dropping this line, Catherine Ford walked away holding Alice, but Foster Newman, unwilling to give up, reached out to grab her. This time, however, before he could touch her, someone kicked him down to the ground.

The person who intervened was forceful, Foster Newman groaned in pain and opened his mouth to curse, only to have his wrist stepped on so harshly by the other person that he momentarily felt as if his bones were splintering. Pain forced cries from him, leaving him no breath to curse others.

Catherine Ford turned around at the noise and saw a stunningly beautiful man clad in black, his demeanor cold and detached, standing on the snow. She gaped, unable to make a sound, but Alice in her arms excitedly shouted, "Uncle Jones, Uncle Jones..."

After finishing, Alice clambered out of Catherine Ford’s arms and ran to Benjamin Jones, "Uncle, you are the hero for Alice and mom."

Benjamin Jones, his handsome face as cold as ice, briefly stunned, then casually picked up the little girl with rosy cheeks, nestled her small head on his shoulder, and looked at the man crying in pain on the ground, "I had already warned you in court, if you laid a hand on Miss Ford again, you would face legal repercussions."

"It hurts, let go, let go, I’ll sue you!" Foster Newman cried out in a sorry state.

Benjamin Jones pressed a little harder with his foot, and Foster Newman screamed again. Then, the man removed his foot and lightly wiped it on the snow, as if he had just touched trash. After that, he looked at the angrily staring Foster Newman, "Anytime."

"Lawyer Jones, I want to sue him for intentional harm." Just as Benjamin Jones walked towards Alice and Catherine Ford, the still slightly trembling woman suddenly spoke with resolution.

Foster Newman was startled, "You dare!"

"I have a medical report of injuries he gave me before, he grabbed me just now and kicked me, people witnessed it, and last night he harassed me where I rent, others saw that too, I can ask them to testify, yes, and previous neighbors, they can all testify for me!" Overcome by emotions, Catherine Ford’s voice trembled, and at last, she looked anxiously at Benjamin Jones, "Can I sue him?"

Benjamin Jones looked at the glaring mud print on Catherine Ford’s waist and nodded affirmatively, "Yes, you can."

Foster Newman, panicking at the ground, struggled to his feet, "Catherine Ford, you’ve gone mad. Don’t forget it was I who helped you, or else with your premarital pregnancy and being abandoned by Kyle Carter, you would’ve been drowned by the village’s spit long ago!"

"Had I known that you were worse than a pervert, I would rather have been cursed to death." Catherine Ford’s slight frame tensed; just at that moment, she realized she could no longer continue this way. She had crawled up from the mud; she couldn’t let them drag her back in.

"You dare!" Foster Newman, furious and irate, advanced to hit Catherine Ford, but was met with a pair of icy eyes. His body involuntarily shuddered, and he dared not take another step forward.

Catherine Ford had long realized that Foster Newman was a bully who feared the strong, but witnessing it with her own eyes felt differently. She snickered sardonically, recalling her past sufferings. She bit her lip and caught Benjamin Jones’s gaze accidentally, feeling suddenly embarrassed without a clue, only to hear the man speak as ordinarily as ever, "Get in the car, I’ll have the driver take you there."

After finishing his sentence, Benjamin Jones headed towards the car holding Alice first, and Catherine Ford followed involuntarily. She remembered her luggage was still at the hotel only when they reached the car, "I’ll go get my luggage."

"Reed, go help Miss Ford." Benjamin Jones gave an indifferent instruction and got into the car with Alice first.

Catherine Ford’s luggage was pitifully little, just one large suitcase, which was placed in the trunk. Benjamin glanced at it nonchalantly, then touched Alice’s frosty red cheeks, "Reed, turn the heat up."

After giving the instructions, seeing Catherine Ford getting into the car with a pale face and a pained expression, "Do you need to go to the hospital?"

Catherine Ford quickly shook her head, "No need, I’m fine."

But she had just refused when Benjamin Jones had already instructed the driver to go to the hospital, and she became a bit flustered, "Lawyer Jones, I..." ƒrēenovelkiss.com

"Aren’t you going to sue him? Just right, go get a medical examination," said Benjamin Jones, then he no longer paid attention to Catherine Ford and bent his head to listen to Alice’s childish talk.

Sitting in the toasty car, Catherine Ford’s expression became even more awkward. She wanted to ask Benjamin Jones why he was here, but seeing the cold aura around the man, she didn’t dare to speak and just whispered to Alice not to bother Uncle.

Alice obediently nodded, gazing at Benjamin with her face still showing a look of awe towards a hero.

At the hospital, after completing the examination and getting a medical report, Catherine Ford returned to the car. Alice touched her round belly, "Mommy, Uncle Jones took me to eat yummy food."

Catherine Ford was stunned, then looked gratefully at the man, only to see his gaze landing on her feet, she uncomfortably drew back and suddenly asked, "Lawyer Jones, how much for the shoes and Alice’s breakfast? I’ll transfer it to you."

Benjamin Jones probably did not expect Catherine Ford to ask this, gave her one glance with his icy face, "No need."

"How can that be? The breakfast is no issue, but I must pay for the shoes," Catherine Ford insisted. She had no relation with Lawyer Jones; she couldn’t accept the shoes from him for free.

Seeing her insistence, Benjamin Jones said, "Reed."

The driver immediately reported, "Miss Ford, the shoes cost a total of fourteen thousand three hundred."

Catherine Ford, "..." She suddenly regretted it. She looked down at her shoes in astonishment, and then looked up at the man, and down again at her shoes, her mouth slightly opening, fourteen thousand three hundred, are these shoes made of gold?

There was a moment of frozen silence in the air.

Then Catherine Ford saw Alice covering her face with her little hand, she became even more embarrassed, "That... Lawyer Jones, you see..." can it be paid in installments?

But she choked and couldn’t get the words out for a long time.

"Mommy, you can give me to Uncle Jones as payment for the debt," Alice seeing her mommy anxious, knew although her mommy calculated the accounts every night, they genuinely had no money, she sincerely asked Benjamin Jones with a face full of earnestness.

Catherine Ford’s face turned bright red upon hearing this, her gaze towards the man becoming even more uneasy, "That... don’t listen to the child’s nonsense, I will transfer it to you later."

Benjamin Jones ignored her, but looked at Alice instead. He had seen Teddy, though born by Abby, but maybe because the father is Brandon Piers, although the child was cute and pink, he felt no special attachment. But somehow Alice inadvertently touched a tender chord in his heart, and now hearing the little girl worried about her mom paying money, actually offering herself as payment for debts, he found it both amusing and heart-wrenching, reaching out to touch Alice’s fluffy head, "Alice is a priceless treasure, you can’t use her to settle debts."

"But what if mommy can’t repay Uncle’s money?" Alice asked worriedly, a look of maturity on her little face.

Benjamin Jones thought for a moment, finally deigned to give Catherine Ford a look, "Do you know how to cook and do house cleaning?"

Catherine Ford quickly nodded; who doesn’t know how to do that?

"Auntie at my place has a daughter who just gave birth, she took a month off. Just right for this month, you come cook and do cleaning in exchange for settling your debts, will that work?" Benjamin Jones asked indifferently.

Catherine Ford quickly nodded, her heart relieving a sigh of relief, her entire wealth now didn’t even total fourteen thousand, if she repaid the money, this month she and her daughter would have to face the north wind.

But as soon as she relaxed, thinking about spending the next month cooking and cleaning for Benjamin Jones, she felt a strange feeling stir inside her, and seeing how Alice clung to Benjamin made her uneasy again.

Alice, unaware of her mother’s worries, hearing that her mother didn’t have to repay the money and only had to cook for Uncle Jones, was jubilantly ecstatic, "Then Uncle Jones, does that mean I can see you every day?"

Benjamin Jones nodded, "Mhm."

Alice became even more joyful.

Catherine Ford murmured with her lips, unable to be entirely happy, only consoling herself that Benjamin Jones hadn’t noticed anything many times before, and sooner or later even if he finds a resemblance between him and Alice, he definitely wouldn’t think in that direction.

After all, the gap between them was too huge; they were people from entirely different worlds.

Her mind swirling with all sorts of thoughts, only when she heard Alice’s excited shouts did she come back to her senses and realized that the car had already entered Rose Valley.

Unlike the urban village she and Alice had rented before, Rose Valley was a real haven for the wealthy, with beautiful and luxurious single-family villas, and excellent greenery in the community, even in winter, cold-resistant flowers bloomed amidst the snow, and stepping out of the car, one could smell a cold fragrance.

Alice was very excited, having forgotten her previous unhappiness, holding Catherine Ford’s hand and looking up uncertainly, "Mommy, are we really going to live here?"

The more than three years old little girl knew quite a lot, especially since Alice was precocious, her happiness also carried a hint of unease.

Catherine Ford explained softly, "We’re just temporarily living here to house sit for an auntie, once the auntie comes back, we’ll move out."

Alice was slightly disappointed with her response, but soon cheered up again, "Mommy, when I grow up, I’m going to work hard to earn money to buy you a beautiful house, and then we won’t have to move again."

"Mommy will also work hard," Catherine Ford picked up her daughter and kissed her little face, her heart softened and filled with motivation.

One day, she would be able to stand firm in this city with her daughter.

Benjamin Jones stood behind, watching the mother and daughter, his usually cold face unexpectedly showed a hint of softness.
