Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 799: Woman, this is a bit unfair
Chapter 799: Chapter 799: Woman, this is a bit unfair
Abigail, carrying simple luggage, sat sullenly in the car. Benjamin noticed her poor mood and didn’t disturb her, only instructing the driver to start the car.
But no sooner had the car started than Abigail’s phone rang. She looked at it, slightly surprised, and answered, "Headmaster Theodore, do you need something from me?"
"Abigail, I heard from Old Mr. Smith that you’re in Gills City. I want to ask you for a favor." Cameron Theodore had returned for a while and visited Old Mr. Smith today, only to receive a call from an old friend saying that his son was injured during a mission and now needed amputation. He didn’t want to, and if it continued, his life would be at risk. A man in his fifties to sixties cried on the phone.
Cameron Theodore asked for the specifics, and coincidentally, Old Mr. Smith was present. He suggested letting Abigail try.
Abigail frowned slightly as she listened. "Go ahead."
After hanging up the phone with Cameron Theodore, Abigail turned to Benjamin. "Benjamin, I’m afraid I can’t go back to Swallow City with you today."
Benjamin, with excellent hearing, sat next to Abigail and could roughly hear Headmaster Theodore’s words. Knowing what Abigail was going to do, he directly instructed the driver to head to Sincere Hospital.
Thanks to Headmaster Theodore’s recommendation, Abigail was quickly allowed into the operating room.
As soon as she entered, she smelled a strong scent of blood, her brows furrowing. She stepped forward to look at the patient’s mangled arm, closed her eyes deeply, then took out her silver needles, disinfected them, and briefly communicated with the chief surgeon before starting to apply the needles.
Lionel Woolley, before the explosion, threw out the empty box, but he was too close. His arm was not only shaken but also cut by the impact force of the explosion and the fragments of the box afterward, making the whole arm a bloody mess, with some bone even exposed.
In such a situation, mishandling could lead to infection and amputation. Despite this, the person on the bed, with eyes open, said, "Doctor, I don’t want to amputate."
This familiar voice startled Abigail. She turned her head and saw the male officer who had arrested her last night. She was slightly astonished, thinking this was an odd fate.
Lionel Woolley, struggling, saw Abigail’s unforgettable face, was stunned, and suddenly changed his tone, "Little fairy, save me. I don’t want to amputate!"
Abigail was taken aback by this fairy-like address and sighed lightly, "I’ll do my best."
But even though she said she would try her best, Lionel seemed to feel reassured and calmed down, exhaustion soon engulfing him.
Initially, with Cameron Theodore’s call, seeing the patient’s condition, Abigail felt her chances of saving the arm weren’t high. But after talking to Lionel, her mood changed significantly.
She heard he was injured on duty. After last night, she could guess Lionel’s job nature. How could she bear to see someone like this in despair? She tensed up and instructed the doctor to cooperate with her in starting the needlework.
Traditional Flowery medicine emphasized vitality. Keeping Lionel’s arm’s vitality meant they were more than halfway to success, which was her current goal.
The doctor in charge initially had little hope upon seeing Abigail’s overly young and beautiful face. But with Abigail’s skilled actions and calm demeanor, everyone in the operating room couldn’t help but be influenced by her emotions and quickly cooperated.
After an hour and a half of surgery, Abigail finally breathed a slight sigh of relief after stitching the last stitch, handing the remaining work to others.
Because everyone was on a mission, outside the operating room, aside from Lionel’s family, only a young officer was there. After changing her clothes, Abigail sat beside him. Suddenly, she remembered Lionel’s mission today, took out her phone in a probing manner, opened a screenshot from the news, and asked, "Excuse me, Officer, have you seen this person?"
...
Luke Scout went to meet the informant, but the reconnaissance team’s work wasn’t over.
Lionel’s injury fueled everyone’s determination to wipe out all criminals.
What was initially a mere show of force turned into a thorough search, making the whole Gills City jittery.
Because of his special status, Brandon Piers, along with Luke Scout’s team, figured out the situation of the Piers branch company. After helping arrest Daniel Piers and foreign criminals, he immediately needed to return to the suburban prison branch in Swallow City to prepare for the appeal.
Until now, Brandon still felt things went too smoothly, especially with Joshua Piers’s clean withdrawal this time. Plus, Samuel Piers and his son were released from prison, making him uneasy.
But this unease turned into absurdity after receiving Luke Scout’s call.
"Say that again?" Brandon thought he heard wrong the first time Luke Scout said it.
Luke put his hand on his forehead. "You didn’t hear wrong."
Brandon took a deep breath. "So he provided the clues from the beginning? What was his original intention?"
"To catch you." Luke pondered for a while before answering.
For the first time, Brandon felt a sense of defeat.
"And you never knew who he was?" Brandon took another deep breath and asked.
"He had always had one-way contact with the higher-ups. It wasn’t until Director Gertrude was seriously ill last year that it was handed over to me. I never thought it would be him." Luke was also greatly surprised when he met the person today. If this was the case, it made perfect sense that Joshua could withdraw so cleanly.
After listening, Brandon exhaled deeply, "How are you planning to handle his situation?"
"First, confirm his identity." Luke took a deep breath after speaking, cursing silently. How else to handle it? The biggest suspect turned out to be their informant, and it left him feeling defeated.
"That’s the only way." Brandon couldn’t help but feel the absurdity too. The person he wanted to catch at all costs was also trying to catch him. They both thought the other was the biggest boss in Asia, only to find they were both working for the police.
Still, regarding Joshua, Brandon chose to reserve his opinion.
After hanging up Luke Scout’s call, Brandon texted Kennan Max to pick him up, then opened his phone to check Abigail’s location, only to find she was just thirty meters away.
Brandon thought he was seeing things, touched the screen again, and found she was only twenty meters away.
Then eighteen meters, sixteen meters, fifteen meters. When it reached twelve meters, the red dot suddenly stopped.
Brandon looked up sharply, seeing a woman wearing a casual sports outfit and a baseball cap, standing quietly at the end of the corridor.
Against the light, Brandon couldn’t see her face clearly, but he knew she embodied everything he loved.
The police station was unusually quiet, with most officers out on duty. The silence amplified, as if he could hear Abigail’s breathing from twelve meters away. He had a moment of panic but quickly composed himself, pretending to open a nearby door with a face he believed unrecognizable.
"Don’t move." Abigail quickly approached, ordering coldly.
Brandon moved faster upon hearing this, but the next moment, Abigail stood before him, taking a deep breath, and he feigned calm, asking, "What can I do for you, ma’am?"
Abigail stared at the utterly unfamiliar yet deeply familiar eyes and wanted to curse badly. But considering her image, she forced a fake smile, "Guess what I want?"
Brandon was speechless, thinking, "Woman, you’re crossing a line."
"This is a special detective unit. If you need help, ma’am, you can go to another police..."
"I came to see you." Abigail interrupted before he could finish.
Brandon Piers felt awkward, looking at the woman in front of him. He wondered how she recognized his disguised face. Before he could figure it out, the woman scrutinized him again and then commented, "Really ugly."
While racking his brain for an excuse, Brandon muttered, "..." Was being this direct necessary?
Forcing a smile, Brandon used his last bit of stubbornness and said, "If the lady has no business here, please do not interfere with official duties."
"I do have business. I want to report my fiancé’s prison break." Abigail looked at the bland false face of Brandon and articulated each word clearly.
Brandon couldn’t hold it in any longer, looking at Abigail with a bit of a fawning expression. "Abigail, listen to me."
"Not pretending anymore?" Abigail laughed angrily.
"I didn’t do it on purpose," Brandon explained with difficulty.
"Mm, you did it deliberately." Abigail replied coldly.
"Hit me." Brandon thought whatever he said now wouldn’t matter. He stood forward, closed his eyes, and looked ready for Abigail to strike him.
Abigail looked at the man’s expression, as if he were accepting his fate, and sighed, "Too ugly. I can’t bring myself to do it."
Brandon was stunned and opened his eyes to look at the woman. He actually thought she liked him purely for his looks.
"I’ll hit you later." A man capable of bending with the circumstances, even if doubting inside, had to hold it back.
Abigail snorted coldly, unwilling to converse with this bastard any longer, and turned to leave.
She confirmed her suspicions, staying in Gills City had no more meaning.
But Brandon became anxious and grabbed Abigail’s hand. "Abigail, I can explain this."
"Let go of me. Grandfather Piers is gravely ill. I have to go back to care for him." Abigail said, after staying in Gills City for four days to find this man. Finding him only made her angrier. If it weren’t for that young officer in the hospital being too inexperienced and accidentally letting slip a few words while she was holding Lionel Woolley’s arm, leading her to guess he was in the Criminal Investigation Unit, she wouldn’t know how long she would be deceived.
"I’m going back today too. I’ll arrange the appeal with Lawyer Jones when I get back. Luke Scout will provide evidence for me, and I can go home soon." Brandon explained urgently.
"Go home for what? I think it’s better for you to stay in there." Abigail replied coldly. Then hearing a sound behind her, she turned to see travel-stained Luke Scout.
Thinking about how this man had confidently told her to go to Swallow City’s sub-prison to find Brandon that night, Abigail had no good face for him. She snorted coldly.
Luke felt awkward, but he always believed if someone was embarrassed, he shouldn’t be awkward. So he continued to step forward as if nothing had happened, thanking Abigail, "I heard from Uncle Zhao that you saved Lionel’s arm. Thank you."
"For now, it doesn’t need to be amputated. But whether it can be saved depends on his recovery. If it gets infected, it will still need to be amputated." Abigail responded coldly.
Luke heard the hidden meaning. As long as post-operative care was proper and no accidents happened, Lionel’s arm was likely saved. He thanked Abigail once more.
Abigail snorted coldly again, "There’s one more thing you must be prepared for. His arm won’t be able to hold a gun in the future."
Luke’s face tightened, and then he nodded heavily. Being able to save his arm was already a fortunate outcome in unfortunate circumstances. Anything else was a luxury.
Seeing Luke’s expression, Abigail said nothing more. She looked at the face in front of her, feeling more off the more she saw it. "Benjamin is still waiting for me. I’ll be leaving. Take care of yourself."
After saying this, Abigail controlled the urge to hug him and turned to leave.
Brandon instinctively reached out to grab her but then remembered he was wearing a blood-stained coat. He loosely held her in his arms, "Wait for me."
Abigail didn’t reply, only looked at Brandon, then pried his hand off and walked out.
Brandon stared blankly at Abigail’s thin back, muttering to himself, "What if Abigail never forgives me?"
"Never been in a relationship, don’t know." Luke shrugged, then went back to his office to change clothes.
Brandon came to his senses, "Where are you going? Let’s talk about Joshua."
"Lionel should be waking up. I’m going to see him." To meet Joshua’s appointment, Luke hadn’t gone to the hospital yet.
Brandon thought for a moment, "I’ll go with you."
This time, Lionel’s injury was technically his fault. He wasn’t vigilant enough and didn’t stop Daniel in time.
Luke heard this, "What about your wife?"
"She thinks I’m ugly now." Brandon sounded quite aggrieved when he said this. He hadn’t realized Abigail was so focused on looks.
Luke was taken aback, then looked at Brandon’s flattened face and nodded in agreement, "It is a bit ugly."
Brandon, "..." Whose fault was it?
Out of the police station, Abigail had already left with Benjamin. Brandon watched the red dot on the phone move farther away, feeling empty inside. Fortunately, he could return to Swallow City soon.
Thinking of Abigail officially turning twenty, reaching the legal age for marriage, Brandon felt inexplicably excited. When he returned, he not only wanted to propose but also to make up for a romantic birthday party for her.
Luke sat next to Brandon, shivering at seeing the lovestruck face. Love indeed made people stupider.
When they arrived at the hospital, Lionel had just woken up. Seeing Luke, he became excited, "Captain, my arm’s fine! The doctor said it’s a miracle, no need for amputation!"
"Mm, take this time to recover properly." Luke looked at the pale person on the hospital bed and couldn’t understand his excitement.
Then, Luke and Brandon heard Lionel mutter in longing with a dry voice, "Captain, you must remember that fairy from that night? The one who instantly knew I was sick and saved my arm? I think it’s fate. When I recover, I’ll confess to her."
Luke was stunned, instinctively looking at Brandon. Brandon didn’t expect this while visiting a patient and laughed coldly, "You have no chance."
Lionel coughed lightly. The wounds all over him hurt with each cough, but he couldn’t help asking, "Why? She looks young, probably doesn’t have a boyfriend."
"No, she does. And a fiancé." Brandon’s body radiated coldness.
Lionel didn’t believe it, "How is that possible? Who?"
"Me."
Lionel stared at the big boss invited by the captain, whispering with slight suspicion, "How is that possible? You’re so ugly!"
Brandon, "..." Assaulting an officer, is it a crime?
