Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 787: Abigail’s Provocation against Second Young Master Fails
Chapter 787: Chapter 787: Abigail’s Provocation against Second Young Master Fails
Abigail woke up in the morning to find the side of the bed empty.
It wasn’t the kind of empty when someone had gotten up after sleeping. It was the kind of empty when no one had slept there all night, neatly undisturbed.
This result wasn’t within Abigail’s expectations. So she sat up and stared blankly at the empty side for quite a while, a bit unable to accept it.
She thought Brandon Piers would somehow find a way into the bedroom; then, like many times before, he would cling to her bed and hold her to sleep.
But she hadn’t expected that despite knowing she was mad, he would choose to remain indifferent.
Having tossed and turned all night without sleeping well, Abigail’s mood was exceptionally foul. The conversation between Brandon Piers and Elder Piers from last night kept surfacing in her mind, making her wonder uncontrollably. Was it because of the current predicament, or did he truly echo that old saying about treasures being unattainable but taken for granted once gotten?
Taking a deep breath, Abigail rubbed her temples, forbidding herself from overthinking. She turned over and got out of bed to wash up.
By the time Abigail left the room, she was refreshed. To cover the light blue under her eyes, she had deliberately applied a thin layer of powder, making her look even more beautiful and captivating under the morning light. But getting up early today, Teddy hadn’t woken up yet.
Looking at the little one’s sleeping posture, Abigail’s tense face finally softened a bit. She wondered what he was dreaming about, with his legs kicking to one side and his body curved like a shrimp, his head already off the pillow, and his little fists clenched tightly.
The most important thing was that this little guy had fallen asleep facing the other side last night. Now he had turned 180 degrees to the other side, showing just how restless he was in his sleep.
Seeing this, Aunt Claudia, who had come by after washing up, laughed lightly. "His sleeping posture is exactly like yours when you were little."
"I don’t think so. I never turned around in my sleep," Abigail denied.
"That’s because you didn’t know," Aunt Claudia laughed.
Abigail smiled but didn’t dwell on the topic. She extended her hand to gently straighten out the little one’s body, but as soon as she did, Teddy, perhaps sensing his mother, unclenched his fist, grabbing Abigail’s hand with his little one and continued sleeping.
Maybe because his sleeping posture wasn’t right, he even snorted softly.
Abigail, who had always prided herself on having a hard and rational heart, found it ridiculously tender at that moment. She couldn’t understand how there could be such an adorable creature in this world.
Before becoming Teddy’s mother, Abigail never imagined she would be like this. She even once thought, due to Clara Smith’s influence, she would never marry, let alone have children.
Children to her were responsibilities, heavy burdens she couldn’t bear. But after having Teddy, she realized that children were gifts, blessings from above.
Abigail lay down beside Teddy, letting the little one rest his head on her arm. Unexpectedly, as soon as she lay down, Teddy opened his big eyes, saw her, and after a moment of daze, raised his hands and said in his adorable baby voice, "Mommy hug."
Before Abigail could react, his small body rolled into her arms.
Instantly, her arms were filled with a small, soft lump, who lay there with sparkling big eyes.
Abigail noticed that when Teddy was younger, his eyes were dark, but as he grew, they had become lighter, turning into translucent amber, just like Brandon Piers’s eyes. Even the eyelashes were the same, thick and long, paired with a soft, white face. It was just too cute for words.
With such an adorable baby acting spoiled, Abigail couldn’t resist. She let the little guy do whatever he wanted on her.
The big and small fussed around for a while before starting to get dressed.
Don’t be fooled by Teddy being only fifteen months old; he could already say quite a few words. He always suddenly came out with some words that made people laugh and cry.
Abigail helped him get dressed, and he wanted to help dress mommy. After the big and small dressed each other, Teddy looked neat like a little gentleman, while Abigail’s originally neat clothes looked wrinkled and shabby.
Aunt Claudia laughed heartily beside them and told Abigail to change her clothes; Abigail glanced at her clothes and raised an eyebrow. "No need."
But even if they didn’t need to change clothes, it was already eight o’clock when mother and son went downstairs.
Abigail took Teddy to the dining room in her wrinkled clothes and found only Grandpa Piers there, with no one else around.
She glanced around, not seeing Brandon Piers’s figure either. Frowning slightly, she quickly collected her thoughts, placed Teddy in the children’s dining chair, and set the children’s meal in front of the little guy.
Recently, Teddy had been learning to eat with a spoon and chopsticks. His movements were clumsy, often failing to get food into his mouth; even when he succeeded, he often made a mess. Yet he enjoyed it nonetheless.
Usually, Abigail let him eat messily, but today, to avoid exposing her emotions too much, she deliberately sat beside Teddy to help feed him.
However, the little guy wasn’t cooperative. After a few bites fed by Abigail, he simply extended his hand to grab the food, soon turning himself into a little kitten.
With no choice, Abigail let Teddy eat on his own. Seeing this, Grandpa Piers quickly urged, "Abigail, you eat too. Brandon, he had something to do and left early."
"Mm," Abigail nodded. She had already guessed Brandon had left, but she didn’t expect that man not to apologize and leave without a word in the morning.
Her mood, which had slightly improved because of Teddy, worsened again.
Abigail disliked this feeling, as if her emotions were controlled by another person. She directly told Grandpa Piers, "Grandfather Piers, I’ll take Teddy to Grandpa Smith’s house later."
"Wh... why are you going to the Smith’s?" Grayson Piers asked, a bit uneasy. Was she planning to take the child back to her parents’ home out of anger?
In fact, Grandpa Piers’s guess was spot on.
"I often have Grandpa Smith come to see me, and now that my godmother has been staying for many days, as a junior, I should go visit them," Abigail spoke righteously, leaving no room for argument.
"Well... alright, then. I’ll have Brandon pick you up tonight," Grayson Piers said awkwardly, cursing his grandson in his heart, though he tried to remain kind and friendly.
Hearing this, Abigail felt some expectation. Although she was angry, deep down, she believed Brandon was just overwhelmed by recent events.
As long as he admitted his mistakes with a good attitude, she wouldn’t be unforgiving.
With this mindset, after breakfast, Abigail took Teddy out, escorted by Hughes and Pullan, back to the Smith house.
Since Abigail’s return to the manor, Pullan became her personal bodyguard, never leaving her side when she went out, while Hughes, a genius hacker, became her driver.
Sometimes Abigail felt reluctant, but considering the current situation of the Piers, she could only make do.
Before leaving, Abigail informed Grandpa Smith and Clara Smith, so when she and Teddy arrived at the Courtyard House, Aunt Claudia was already waiting at the alley entrance.
Abigail also specifically called Lena Locke over. The little girl had not seen Teddy and Church Smith for a while and missed them a lot. She had even mentioned it a few times on Facebook before, so Abigail seized this opportunity to invite her.
When she and Teddy arrived, Lena Locke also arrived. When Lena saw Teddy, she rushed over and picked him up.
Although Teddy was only fifteen months old, his memory was not bad. He still remembered this young aunt of his, and after being held for a while, he smiled at Lena with a cheeky grin.
Lena hadn’t been able to stop thinking about Teddy since the last time she saw him. Now, holding this soft and adorable little creature who was smiling at her, she was simply overjoyed. She spun around holding Teddy, scaring Aunt Claudia quite badly even though Abigail didn’t mind.
Fortunately, although Lena was happy, she was still considerate. Once she made Teddy giggle, she handed the little guy over to Aunt Claudia, who looked worried.
Abigail shook her head with a smile and led everyone into the Courtyard House. Aunt Claudia watched everyone so happy that she couldn’t stop praising Abigail, saying she was the Smith family’s lucky star. Not only did she help Old Mr. Smith accept an apprentice, but she also found his long-lost daughter. Now, she even brought such a cute little baby back. Old Mr. Smith would definitely be very happy.
Aunt Claudia didn’t know that Church Smith and Clara Smith had already returned to the country a week ago and were staying at Moon Lake Manor with Abigail. Otherwise, she would have been full of questions, wondering when that stubborn old man she had served for years had started firing on all cylinders?
However, both Abigail and Aunt Claudia knew to keep quiet about it and listened to Aunt Claudia’s happy chatter all the way until they opened the doors to the Courtyard House.
Unlike Moon Lake Manor, the Smith family’s Courtyard House was big but only the size of a typical residence. Walking past the small rockery at the entrance, one could glimpse most of the courtyard. At that moment, Church Smith and Clara Smith were sitting in the courtyard.
There was also a familiar guest of Abigail’s, Benjamin Jones.
Abigail hadn’t expected to see Benjamin Jones in her grandpa’s Courtyard House. She was stunned for a moment, then she plastered a big smile on her face and greeted the three of them.
Church Smith glanced at Abigail, hummed arrogantly, and then placed his black stone down. To his surprise, Benjamin Jones calmly said, "Grandpa Smith, you lost."
The previously arrogant Old Mr. Smith immediately became dissatisfied. He tapped his cane and played rogue, saying, "No way. I made a wrong move just now. It’s all her fault. If she hadn’t distracted me, I wouldn’t have made that move. I want a rematch!"
Poor Abigail, who was suddenly blamed for something she didn’t do, was speechless. Could this even happen?
Clara Smith laughed uncontrollably and asked Abigail to hand Teddy over, then goose-danced, "Hey, that’s nothing. Just now, when I went to ask Aunt Claudia for a glass of water, your grandpa said I distracted him while watching it, so he had to take the move back. Just now, when Benjamin’s phone vibrated, he also wanted to take the move back. I counted, he must have taken back his moves about twelve times in this game."
"That’s not true! You’re talking nonsense. I only took back my move eleven times," Church Smith corrected displeasedly after being outed by his own daughter.
But his correction made everyone laugh even harder. What was the obvious difference between eleven and twelve times? Was it worth correcting so seriously?
Looking at the group of people laughing hysterically, Church Smith got so angry he twisted his beard, "Laugh? What’s so funny? If you have the skills, why don’t you play?"
Everyone shook their heads in unison. "We don’t have the skills." After all, no one could play a game and take back the moves twelve times.
The old man hummed arrogantly again, but suddenly his chin hurt. He looked down and saw a small, chubby hand tugging at his beard.
Church Smith chuckled softly, "Little boy, you dare to meddle with your great-grandfather? Do you want a spanking?"
Teddy, hearing his great-grandfather, blinked his big adorable eyes at Church Smith without any fear. Because Church Smith’s trembling beard fascinated him, he happily tugged it even harder, giggling as he did so.
His laughter amused the others, who also joined in.
Only Abigail held back her laughter and pulled Teddy’s little hand away, trying to stop the mischievous rascal from tugging on grandpa’s beard any more.
But the little guy wouldn’t let go. When Abigail tugged a bit harder, the old man, who just said Teddy was meddling, actually glared at Abigail, "Be gentle. He’s so young, and his hands are so delicate. You’re going to make them red."
Having been spanked by her grandpa since childhood, Abigail’s face fell. Was this real?
For the first time in her life, she felt unbalanced.
But when Abigail turned her head and saw Clara Smith’s stunned expression, she realized she might not be the only one feeling this imbalance.
Birth order evidently mattered a lot.
Abigail and Clara Smith decided not to stop Teddy. And if Church Smith felt pain? Well, he had it coming.
After a while of merriment, Aunt Claudia had already prepared lunch.
Besides Abigail, Teddy, Lena Locke, Pullan, and Hughes were also called to the table, and Benjamin Jones was invited to stay. For the first time, the stone table in the courtyard was fully surrounded. Aunt Claudia didn’t stop smiling the whole time.
Since Abigail had something to ask Benjamin Jones, she took the opportunity to sit next to him, holding Teddy. She inquired about Brandon Piers’s legal case during the meal. Receiving a positive reply, she felt slightly relieved, and her smile brightened.
Seeing this, Benjamin smiled and shook his head. Then he felt a sudden pang of sadness. Some people were just truly missed once they were missed. Watching Abigail worry so much about Brandon Piers, it was clear her heart was tied to that man. And that man...
Benjamin thought of the transfer agreement from Brandon Piers he received this morning. The shock lingered in his chest. He used to believe he lost to Brandon because of timing and poor communication. But after seeing that agreement, he suddenly realized that timing and communication were just excuses.
The real reason he didn’t win Abigail’s heart was that he didn’t love her enough.
Compared to Brandon’s love, his feelings for Abby were too shallow.
While he was deep in thought, Lena Locke set up a tripod with her phone, set a timer, then ran back, saying, "Come on, everyone, let’s take a picture together. Say cheese in three seconds."
Saying this, Lena squeezed next to Pullan, and the others instinctively looked at the camera. Only Benjamin remained lost in his thoughts, slightly tilting his head as if staring affectionately at Abigail. Abigail, relaxed and happy because Benjamin said Brandon’s case was fine, held Teddy, beaming happily.
The eight or nine people crowded around the stone table made it a bit tight. Abigail, sitting next to Benjamin, with her thick hair brushing against Benjamin’s nose, made them look close. With their high attractiveness and Teddy in Abigail’s lap, they looked like a family of three.
When the photo session ended, everyone started eating. Lena Locke took down her phone, checked the picture, and nodded in satisfaction. Because everyone was so close together, no one noticed anything unfitting. Pullan leaned over, "Send me a copy. I want to post it. Aunt Claudia’s food is too delicious. I have to praise it."
Aunt Claudia chuckled hearing this, and the Courtyard House was filled with happiness.
