The next day, Jazmine Harrison had to travel back to Beijing in the evening.
"Looks like I can't avoid him." Jazmine sighed. She gave up the idea of calling President Crowne and instead sent him a message, requesting to meet him in his office.
Almost immediately, a reply came.
Sebastian Crowne: "Do you want to continue what happened last night? However, the office might not be a suitable location for that."
Jazmine's face twitched as she read the message. She knew he wouldn't let her off so easily. It had been naive of her to assume that he would forget what happened last night and act as if it never occurred.
Before she could type a response, another message arrived.
Sebastian Crowne: "However, if you are that eager, I might arrange something for us."
Jazmine felt the sudden urge to throw her phone across the room and stomp on it until it shattered into a million pieces.
Calm down, Jazmine. He's just playing with you. If you lose your temper, he wins. Stay calm and give him a response that will throw him off instead.
A smirk curled on her lips as she typed her reply.
Jazmine Harrison: "What happened last night was shoddy for me to be wanting more."
A short pause. Then, another reply.
Sebastian Crowne: "I wouldn't say that, considering the way you were gasping and how red your face got."
Jazmine's cheeks burned, but she quickly shook off the embarrassment.
Jazmine Harrison: "You greatly overestimate yourself, President Crowne. As always, you're overconfident."
Sebastian Crowne: "Give me a chance to prove myself, and you wouldn't be saying that."
Jazmine bit her lip, a flicker of heat creeping into her chest. As if I would fall into his trap again. She had already let her guard down too many times. He couldn't possibly use the same tricks on her anymore.
Jazmine Harrison: "Not interested. When should I arrive at your office?"
She prayed he would finally give her a straightforward answer.
Thankfully, he did. Jazmine exhaled in relief. She didn't have much planned for the morning. In the evening, she would be leaving for Beijing.
"The first thing I should do is visit my grandfather. He surely knows something that I don't." Jazmine had always suspected that Theodore Harrison held information, but how much did he truly know? Perhaps, she thought, he didn't know anything at all.
She picked up her phone and sent a text to Lucian Smith.
Jazmine Harrison: "Any leads yet?"
It took a while, but a detailed response finally arrived.
Lucian Smith: "Not yet, President. But the more I look into it, the more suspicious everything seems. The case regarding your mother is completely wiped cleanāI can't find any records. This proves that someone deliberately erased them. At the very least, it means your mother's death wasn't as simple as it appeared. A powerful force must have been involved in covering it up."
Jazmine stared at the message for a long time, deep in contemplation.
Her emotions were complicated. She didn't want to get her hopes upābecause if she did, she feared she would only face disappointment in the end.
To distract herself, she decided to visit Amelia.
When Jazmine arrived, Amelia wasted no time in teasing her.
"Xiao Jaz, how was your date with President Crowne?" Amelia grinned mischievously the moment Jazmine walked into her room.
Jazmine groaned. "Let's not talk about President Crowne, shall we?"
Amelia smirked. "Oh? But I caught sight of you sneaking into your room last night, all flushed. What exactly happened? Did you finally commit adultery?"
Jazmine: "..."
She let herself fall onto Amelia's bed with a sigh.
Amelia plopped down beside her, resting her chin on her hands. "You look tense. Does it have anything to do with...?"
"It has nothing to do with President Crowne," Jazmine interrupted quickly. "I'm just worried about some work-related matters."
Jazmine wasn't the type to share her burdens with others. It wasn't a matter of trustāshe simply didn't want to worry those close to her. But thinking back, she realized something surprising.
In the past few days, she had shared quite a lot with Sebastian Crowne.
She wasn't sure whether that was a good thing or a bad thing.
"Just don't stress yourself too much," Amelia said, giving her a light nudge. "Find time to spend with the ones you love, you know... the ones."
Jazmine gave her a knowing look. "Why are you so obsessed with my relationship with President Crowne?"
Amelia laughed. "Because I'm just so happy you finally got over David Anderson! You have no idea how frustrating it was watching you fawn over him. I couldn't even badmouth him in front of you because you would have cut me off the moment I said something negative."
Jazmine frowned. "I never fawned over him."
"You did," Amelia insisted. "Remember the night of your anniversary party? You were practically glowing. You spent the entire night trying on different outfits just for him."
Jazmine recalled that night. She had been so naive, so full of optimism.
Thinking about it now, her feelings for David Anderson had been nothing more than an unhealthy obsession.
Only after experiencing Sebastian Crowne's presence did she realize the stark difference between fantasy and reality.
"That was in the past. I was young back then."
Amelia raised an eyebrow. "Are you kidding me? That was only six months ago! How were you 'young' then and not now?"
Jazmine fell silent.
Because she had died at thirty.
The realization struck her againāshe wasn't twenty-six anymore, not in her mind.
Her reincarnation felt surreal, almost like a dream. Had I really died and been reborn on my wedding day? Or had it all just been a strange influx of foreign memories?
There was no way to know for sure.
Glancing at her phone, she noticed the time.
"I have to go," she said, standing up.
Amelia waved her off. "Be safe! And tell me all about it later."
Jazmine smiled faintly before heading out.
But just as she reached the lobby, she was stopped by a familiar figure.
David Anderson.
His dark eyes locked onto her with a gaze that carried an unreadable intensity.
Jazmine's breath hitched.
She had thought she was done with him.
Clearly, she had been wrong.
...
Jazmine Harrison stepped out of Amelia's room, only to find a man standing not far away.
Her steps faltered. That familiar face.
"David Anderson?"
What was he doing here? Standing outside like that? Without giving him much attention, she started toward the elevator. But just as she passed him, he blocked her path.
"Is there something you need, Mr. Anderson?" Her tone was formal, as if addressing a business acquaintance.
"Come inside. I need to discuss something with you." His voice was unreadableācold, detached. Just like always.
Jazmine's brows furrowed. "What is it that can't be discussed here?"
David didn't answer.
She sighed, glancing at her phone. She didn't have time for this. Sebastian Crowne was an important man. No way could she afford to be late. That man might be a shameless flirt in private, but she still remembered why people in the business world called him the 'Devil.'
"Are you avoiding me?" David finally spoke. His voice carried a hint of somethingāwas it curiosity? Or was it irritation?
Jazmine almost laughed. "I don't see why my avoidance should concern you."
His jaw tightened. "You didn't speak to me once at the fashion show. I noticed it. And so did everyone else. Even the media. Do you understand what kind of rumors this will cause?"
Jazmine tilted her head, her lips curving slightly. "I highly doubt you care whether those rumors affect me negatively or not."
There wasn't a single ripple in her expression. It was as if David Anderson's presence didn't affect her in the slightest.
David froze for a moment. "I have no reason to hate you, so..."
Jazmine took a slow step toward him, her confidence unwavering. "You don't?"
The intensity in her eyes made David pause. For the first time, he almost didn't recognize her.
She had changed.
Before, Jazmine had been delicate. Fragile. The kind of woman a man would want to shield and protect.
But now?
She was standing in front of him, exuding a presence so unshakable it commanded attention.
Ever since their wedding, David had noticed something different about her. But now, the change was undeniable.
"I know about your involvement in my company."
David's gaze darkened slightly.
Jazmine smiled, but there was no warmth in it. "I know about the spies you planted. The moles you placed. For the past five years, you've been trying to sabotage my company, haven't you?" She met his gaze, unflinching. "Are you still going to tell me you have no reason to hate me?"
David remained silent for a moment, then let out a low chuckle. "You've been hiding your true self well until now. What gave you the confidence to confront me so openly?"
"What do you think?"
David studied her for a long moment, then took a step forward. "Come with me. Let's talk inside."
Jazmine immediately stepped back. "I'll listen. But don't touch me."
For a split second, something flashed in David's eyes.
Then, without another word, he turned and walked toward his room.
Jazmine exhaled slowly, debating whether to follow.
Would it really hurt to hear him out?
After all, in her past life, David Anderson had never voluntarily approached her like this.
Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside and shut the door behind her.
Leaning against it, she crossed her arms. "Speak. What is so important that it couldn't be said outside?"
David smirked slightly. "You're getting bold, Jazmine. Be careful. Your bravery might cost you."
She didn't flinch. "You don't have to worry about me, Mr. Anderson. I assure youā you won't be the one deciding my fate."
David chuckled softly, shaking his head. "It might not be me you should be worried about."
Jazmine's gaze sharpened. "Is that your warning?"
"It's a fact." David sat down, crossing his legs. He looked at her with calm amusement. "I have a proposition for you. If you want to protect yourself and... your grandfather, you might want to hear me out."
Her heart clenched for a moment, but she quickly forced herself to stay composed.
"Go on," she said, her voice as steady as ever.
