Chapter 81 - Only Clue

His hand reached out to her face. Jazmine Harrison held her breath and tried her best to pretend she hadn't noticed his movements. It wasn't until she felt a soft tissue paper touch her skin that she stopped pretending and looked at him with confused eyes.

"What...?" She innocently blinked.

"You had something smeared across your face. Let me." Sebastian Crowne continued to wipe her face with a liquid tissue, his eyes filled with quiet amusement. His touch was gentle and light, enough to make the recipient feel a certain way. Jazmine felt strange being stared at and treated like that.

"How did you manage to do it?" Jazmine continued to stare out of the window.

"That's not important. The important thing is that we enjoy it thoroughly." Sebastian looked out at the city. He seemed to be engrossed in deep thought, as if he were lost in a memory very dear to him. His eyes held a strange spark and softness as he murmured, "It's just like that day."

"Have you been here to see the fireworks before?" After a pause, Jazmine added, "With someone else?" She was really interested in knowing.

Sebastian's lips twitched, but he didn't say anything. Once the fireworks died out, Jazmine looked at him. A new determination shone in her eyes, as if she had reached a decision.

"I'm ready to know."

"What do you mean?" Sebastian looked at her.

"I know that you know something about me that I don't." Jazmine hid her hands in the pockets of her blazer. "There's a certain part of my past that I've forgotten. Ever since the day I first saw you, I've felt a sense of familiarity with you. What was the reason you found me in the forest? You keep following me. You are persistent in following me. There's no way to explain that unless we had a past together."

"So you finally want to know why I want to steal you?" There was a hint of happiness in his tone.

"You've been waiting for me to ask?" Jazmine smiled. "It's not necessary. I think I already know. But the problem is... I don't remember anything clearly. That means I must have forgotten. Earlier, I was doubtful, but that day in your room, you asked me, 'Have I really forgotten you?' That clearly implied that I have forgotten something. Something you know. I wouldn't have believed you even then. But at that moment, I recalled something—a memory... And I knew there was something between us. Something that I've lost."

"I'm ready to know whatever it is. Because I know I won't be able to rest until the truth is revealed."

Sebastian averted his eyes, glancing at the city that had fallen silent after the fireworks. He didn't know how to respond to Jazmine. He just didn't want to hurt her in any way.

"Are you not willing to tell me? I know... You said you wanted me to find out for myself who you are. But what if... what if I've already figured it out?"

"Have you?" Sebastian's lips curled up as he looked at her.

"Yes, I have, Mr. Crowne." Jazmine smiled back at him. Her eyes were calm as still water. "Or should I say... President Crowne?"

Downstairs

On the floor below, two people sat across from each other at a table, dressed in oversized clothes.

"Do you have any idea how much money and connections it cost me to get a room here?"

"It's all worth it. All worth it. Stop complaining. We must be willing to do more for our Jazz." Amelia said.

"Why do I feel like you just came here for the food?"

"Would you stop being whiny for a second? I'm trying to do a job here." Amelia glanced at her phone as a notification popped up. "Dammit."

"What happened now?"

"He says he couldn't get into the garage. The security was too tight, so we can't investigate by putting the tracking device on his car." Amelia put away the phone. "It seems like the man daring to seduce our Jazmine Harrison is not an ordinary character."

"Of course he's not a normal person. He got a reservation here so easily." Frank played with the forks. "Why do you look so sad to hear that?"

"Am I supposed to look happy? How are we supposed to deal with him if he turns out to be another David Anderson? We can barely match the Anderson family together. If she's found someone even more powerful than him, what the hell are we going to do? Is Jazmine some kind of magnet for powerful men? Why can't she just find a normal guy? One that would be easy to kill if he ever hurt her?"

Frank: "..."

He sighed. "I think you need to chill. Our Jazz is not the same naive girl who fell for David Anderson. She's a grown woman. Have you not seen how she managed her office all alone? She had no assistance. Even then, despite all the obstacles and David trying to put her down, she still managed to get the upper hand."

"You don't understand. The matters of the heart can't be taken lightly. Jazmine had her heart broken once. But the second time... I'm afraid... it might break her."

Frank stared at her. "You sound different."

"I have to. Because there's something you don't know."

"What is it? You can tell me."

"Do you remember when Jazmine went missing the day she turned twenty?"

"Of course I remember. Her sudden, unexplained disappearance threw all of us into a panic."

"And do you remember that right after a month, she ended up in her own bedroom unharmed? Don't you think that was strange? Especially since she had no recollection of what happened or where she had been all that time?"

"That happened a long time ago. What are you trying to say by bringing it up now? We investigated it as best as we could at the time. But we never found out anything about her disappearance or her reappearance. The only clue we discovered was that..."

Suddenly, Frank fell silent.

"It led to Hong Kong."
