Chapter 60 - Cool and Confident

On the quiet road, the only audible sound was the smooth friction between the rubber tires and the asphalt road. Jazmine Harrison recited the words she had planned to say to Mr. Crowne to make him agree to her proposition. She glanced out through the glass, her eyes landing on the forests on both sides of the long road. Her eyebrows furrowed.

"Where are we headed for?"

"Mr. Crowne's personal residence."

Jazmine leaned back against the leather seat. She had expected to be taken to his office. But at this unexpected turn, she didn't dare to object. She didn't want to offend that 'Devil' in any way when he could prove to be such an important ally!

When she glanced at the eerie silence outside, a slight uneasiness crept into her heart. An uneasiness that was specifically associated with this place. Why was it so? She had never been here before; she was sure of that.

"How long is it going to take to reach our destination?"

The driver didn't say anything. Jazmine tore her gaze away from the scenery outside and glanced at him. Noticing the suspicious glance, he quickly replied.

"Two hours, Ms. Harrison."

Something was wrong.

Two hours... She had already checked it. The distance was only one hour. The driver was obviously lying. She bit her lip and decided what to do. The first thought that occurred to her was to notify someone. She took out her cell.

No signal.

She glanced around the car. She could see that the driver in the front seat was watching her through the mirror, noticing her every move. She wasn't stupid. She wouldn't act impulsively. Stealthily, she glided her hand along the door and reached for the lock. She tried to open the door.

Locked. The driver had already noticed Jazmine's suspicion and locked the car doors.

"You're not taking me to Mr. Crowne, are you?" Jazmine's voice was cold. She couldn't escape from the situation without violence.

The driver struggled with what to say.

"Ms. Harrison, please be cooperative. Our Boss doesn't intend to harm you."

"Which Boss?"

Silence.

As if she would believe that. If the person employed such a well-thought-out method to kidnap her, his motive was everything but in her favor. He even knew she had an appointment with Mr. Crowne. The person behind it was obviously not a little character.

Jazmine put her hands into her handbag and tried to look for something. There wasn't anything applicable she could use. After much thought, she grabbed a handkerchief; her hands staying hidden inside her bag. She twisted it until it was rolled and hardened. With a quick movement, she jumped and put it around the driver's throat, pressing it until he couldn't breathe anymore. He choked and struggled to move.

"Now listen to me carefully. Move to the corner and stop the car." Her voice was cold and calm. Every move she made was confident and clear, like she knew exactly what to do and had done it countless times before.

The driver was shocked. He couldn't have guessed she would be bold enough to do that. Shouldn't a normal woman be scared witless in such a situation? Didn't his boss say she was a coward and he didn't have to worry about her much? He lost control of the car and struggled to get the cloth off his neck that was suffocating him.

"Let go!"

The car swayed dangerously on the road once his hands tried to get her off. Ignoring the pressure on his neck, he quickly got his hold back on the steering wheel. Was this woman crazy? Didn't she know he was driving the car? And by suffocating him, she would be killing them both?

"Let go. We're both going to die!"

"If you don't want that to happen, you'll do as I said."

The man's face turned purplish, and having left no choice, with great difficulty, he managed to get the car parked at the edge of the forest. His hand reached for something in his belt, but he was stopped when suddenly Jazmine tightened her grip.

"Good." Jazmine smiled and pulled the cloth with all the strength she had. The man struggled to get her off, but he was in a difficult condition. His arms couldn't reach where Jazmine was; he couldn't get a grip on the cloth around his neck. His suffocation affected his decision-making power; his hands trembled, and all he could think of was how to get the cloth off. With so much pressure on his neck, the blood supply to his head stopped, and he passed out due to asphyxiation.

Jazmine kicked open the door and inspected the area. It was a long road, and it was unlikely she could find anyone traveling. She looked at the passed-out man in the front seat. She was horrified to see a gun in his lap.

So close. Just a few seconds, and he would have already shot her.

She grabbed the gun and entered the thick forest.

...

A handsome man was resting in front of a huge swimming pool. His arms swung around two beautiful foreign women in bikinis as they giggled and laughed coquettishly. Just then, another man walked into the scene.

"Mr. Blackwood, there is something important that requires your presence."

Dorian Blackwood shrugged it off.

"Can it be more important than my Rose?" He said as he winked at her, totally ignoring the man who had just arrived with urgent expressions.

The woman who was named Rose giggled while the woman in his other arm pouted as if complaining.

"But Mr. Blackwood..."

"Of course, it is not more important than my Angelina too."

Both the women giggled, and he busied himself flirting with them, completely ignoring the man who had just appeared.

"But Mr. Blackwood..." The man wasn't sure whether to utter that name here or not. "It's about Jazmine Harrison."

Suddenly, Dorian Blackwood's soft eyes sharpened. His face darkened.

"Brother Blackwood..." Rose was confused.

"Leave," His voice was dark with obvious hints of warning.

The women quivered and walked away from him at once. What happened to him? They had never seen him like this before. After putting on a red robe, Dorian Blackwood walked away from there.

"Did you get her?"

The man explained everything. In the end, Dorian Blackwood laughed. But his eyes didn't look happy. They held a mixture of anger and amusement.

"I see that little bird has grown quite some wings."

"Mr. Blackwood, should we send more men...?"

"No," he had a small smile on his face that looked quite charming and gentle as he walked towards his wardrobe. "Sebastian Crowne would have already been alerted by now. We do not plan to have direct combat with him." No one could tell from his external warm exterior that he could possess such maliciousness inside him.

"So what should we do?"

"Sebastian Crowne just had a reunion with his lover. We should go and congratulate him."
