Rebirth of the Peak Young Master-Chapter 16 Oblivious to Death or Danger
Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Oblivious to Death or Danger
"Master Ma, are we just... just going to leave them behind like that?"
As she followed Master Ma deeper into the tunnel, Guo Ru couldn't help but ask.
"Master Ma must have his reasons for doing this. Xiao Ru, why are you worrying about them?" Guo Wenyu immediately interjected.
"But..."
"No buts! Second Brother, what do you think?" Guo Wenyu turned to Guo Wenhao for his input.
Guo Wenhao, seeing this, merely gave a slight nod—not expressing approval nor disapproval—but discreetly waved a hand at Guo Ru to signal her to say no more, clearly unwilling to provoke Master Ma because of Yang Tian.
Master Ma, noticing the exchange, responded coolly, "Beyond this door lies the sarcophagus of this ancient tomb. Along the way, you've all seen the Evil Spirits lingering about. That young man's aura is thin, and his steps are unnaturally light. I had already sensed a sign of him being possessed by an Evil Spirit earlier, which is why I isolated him."
Possessed by an Evil Spirit?
The Guo Brothers were startled upon hearing this.
Just earlier, as they followed Master Ma, they'd seen several of the Guo Family servants who had gone missing in the tunnels. All of them had grotesque appearances and viciously attacked on sight.
If not for Master Ma's presence, they doubted they could have made it this far.
Now, hearing that Yang Tian was already possessed, they felt a mixture of fear and gratitude toward Master Ma, silently scolding Yang Tian for nearly bringing disaster upon them.
Seeing that the Guo Brothers believed his explanation, Master Ma smirked coldly to himself.
To him, being surrounded by that much ghost energy meant Yang Tian was doomed beyond salvation.
By the time they left this place, Yang Tian would likely already be dead. Claiming he was possessed by an Evil Spirit now wouldn't matter much.
"Don't worry. I've already cast a spell on him. He likely won't live much longer, so there's no need for concern!" Master Ma said with a smile.
"Dead? If he's dead, that's perfect. That's perfect!"
Guo Wenyu, hearing that Yang Tian was as good as dead, let out a breath of relief. He then turned his gaze to the stone door in front of them and said, "Then, shall we trouble Master Ma to open the door?"
"Very well. Step back!"
Master Ma waved his sleeve as he slowly approached the stone door. Placing his right hand on it, he prepared to open the way.
But just as the door began to stir, a sudden sound of footsteps made him freeze in place. To his astonishment, two figures casually strolled toward them—it was none other than Yang Tian and Liu Li, whom he had just declared possessed moments ago.
Yang Tian still wore an expression of cool indifference, as though nothing had happened, showing no trace of being possessed by an Evil Spirit.
Liu Li's demeanor, on the other hand, had shifted noticeably. But that shift was one of increased reverence—directed toward Yang Tian.
"Master Ma, what... what's going on with them?"
Seeing this, Guo Wenhao looked toward Master Ma in confusion.
Master Ma felt his face burn with embarrassment.
He had just claimed that Yang Tian was possessed and would soon perish. Yet here Yang Tian stood, alive and well—and unscathed, no less. This was a slap in the face of his credibility.
But he quickly recovered and said, "It seems the meager sliver of hope I left behind was found by this boy. His life isn't meant to end just yet!"
"What sliver of hope? It was clearly Mr. Yang who dispersed the black fog with a single gesture!" Liu Li immediately retorted.
Surrounded by that black fog earlier, Liu Li had witnessed Yang Tian's abilities firsthand.
Faced with intense ghost energy, Yang Tian had dissolved it with just a single motion. Such a display eclipsed Master Ma's laborious efforts by a wide margin.
"One gesture? Ridiculous nonsense!"
Master Ma sneered. "Those Evil Spirits we faced earlier required me to call upon the treasured artifact of my sect. And you say this boy dealt with them in one motion? If he's so capable, then perhaps I should leave this tomb to him. I shan't waste my time here!"
As he finished, Master Ma acted as if he were about to turn and leave.
Guo Wenyu couldn't let that happen.
To him, Master Ma's mana was incomparably profound, rivaling the powers of an Immortal.
In contrast, Yang Tian appeared ordinary—even younger than twenty years old. Compared to Master Ma, or even Liu Li beside him, Yang Tian seemed completely unremarkable.
Hurriedly, Guo Wenyu shot Liu Li a glare before ingratiatingly addressing Master Ma, "Master Ma, please forgive the ignorance of lowly servants. How could this brat possibly compare to you? It was only out of respect for my father that I brought him here. There's no need to stoop to his level."
"Hmph! Let this be the last time! If not for my principles as a cultivator who shuns worldly matters, I wouldn't let such insolence slide!"
With another haughty snort, Master Ma turned back to the stone door, his posture full of disdain. He began preparing once again to open the way.
Yang Tian made no remark, merely gazing at the stone door in silence.
For at that moment, his Divine Sense had already probed beyond the heavy door, revealing a far more perilous situation than the exterior.
Not only was the area teeming with numerous Evil Spirits, but there was also something far more sinister—a presence more horrific than any ghost—coiled within the sarcophagus itself.
With Master Ma's mana, even the Evil Spirits would prove overwhelming.
If the entity in the sarcophagus emerged, Master Ma and the three Guo Family members would likely meet their end in mere moments.
Still, given the contempt directed toward him by them all—save for Liu Li—why bother warning anyone?
Out of respect for Elder Guo, he might consider saving their lives at the last moment.
As for how terrified they might become, that was their problem, not his.
Creaaak!
Under Master Ma's forceful push, the stone door slowly opened, leaving just enough room for one person to pass through at a time.
Upon seeing this, the Guo Brothers were overjoyed, immediately following Master Ma inside.
Guo Ru naturally quickened her pace to join them.
Liu Li was about to step in as well, but Yang Tian extended a hand to stop him. "You stay out here. If anything unusual happens, prepare to help bring people out immediately."
"Understood!" Liu Li stopped in his tracks and nodded reluctantly, complying with Yang Tian's instructions.
Once satisfied, Yang Tian strode into the stone door.
Creak... creak...
Just as he entered, Yang Tian observed the Guo Brothers and Guo Ru standing nervously by the doorway, while Master Ma was surrounded by menacing forces, furiously performing spell gestures with both hands.
Before him, a grotesque Evil Spirit lashed out with its crimson claws, slashing wildly toward their group.
"By the decree of the heavens, be gone!"
After seemingly battling for an eternity, Master Ma seized an opportunity, raising the black iron artifact he previously used against the ghost energy.
The Evil Spirit suddenly froze, its hideous form writhing with discomfort as if completely immobilized.
"Master Ma's Divine Skill is unparalleled! His Taoism reaches the heavens—he's truly an Immortal!"
Seeing the Evil Spirit being subdued, Guo Wenyu let out an excited cheer.
But before the excitement could settle, a chilling, thunderous voice boomed through the chamber, sending tremors down their spines.

"Who dares disturb this King?"
"Who's there?!"
Startled, Master Ma immediately scanned the crypt.
In the distance, the sarcophagus began to tremble violently. Emerging from within was a figure dressed in a burial suit of golden threads and jade—a blue-faced man emanating an unparalleled aura of dread.
