Chapter 69: He’s Not That Into Women

At Serendipity Restaurant.

When Josh walked into the restaurant, Aurora was taken aback. His expression is stormy. Something was bothering him; he appeared tense and upset.

Once Aurora noticed him getting calm and comfortable in his chair, she instinctively leaned in.

She asked softly, ensuring that Renata and Danny did not hear, "Hey Josh, are you okay?"

"Yeah, absolutely. I’m alright..." he replied with a smile, trying to reassure Aurora, but his sharp gaze at Danny betrayed him.

Aurora quickly grasped the situation with Josh; he likely saw Danny as a threat. She let out a quiet, deep sigh; this was why she found it so bothersome that Alex’s people were following her.

...

Renata waved warmly at Josh, her eyes twinkling with kindness.

"Would you like to order some delicious sweets for dessert?" she asked with a sweet smile, making Josh feel slightly uneasy as he turned to her.

"No, thank you, ma’am," Josh said politely, gulping down water until his glass ran dry.

Suddenly, he felt his throat dry as he recalled that the man beside him had also attended Aurora’s funeral.

He recognized this man as the country’s leading lawyer and Aurora’s closest friend. His suspicion that Aurora Spencer and Aurora Moon belonged to the same social circle became increasingly apparent.

’Is Lady Boss friends with Rory too?’ Just the thought sent chills down his spine.

Josh averted his eyes, struggling to mask his shock. Yet, Renata’s alluring voice resonated strongly enough to make his suspicions about Aurora Spencer slip away.

"Oh please, just call me Renata or Rena," she said, smiling.

Josh merely responded with a brief nod and an unfriendly glare, leaving Renata puzzled about his attitude.

’I can’t believe this guy is still single! Every time I say something, he looks a little annoyed. Hmm, I wonder if Aurora gave me the wrong idea?’ Renata was feeling quite perplexed.

Renata leaned closer to Aurora and whispered, "Aren’t you in a relationship with Josh? I can’t help but wonder why he didn’t even give me a friendly glance and just stared at you." She shared her thoughts.

Aurora expressed her frustration silently to Josh. She couldn’t understand what was bothering him.

Since he returned from outside, Aurora noticed that his demeanor had changed from warm to cold, as if someone had spilled something unpleasant on his plate. He glared annoyingly at Danny and cast the same look at Renata.

’Did someone upset him? Did Alex scold him for leaving me alone here?’ Aurora wondered. Earlier, she had seen Josh on the phone while he was outside.

"Sis, believe me, Josh is just a friend," Aurora replied to Renata in a hushed tone, just loud enough for her to hear. "Don’t be fooled by his appearance; he may look cold and fierce, but trust me, he is actually very kind."

Renata squinted at Aurora, unconvinced by her words. "But Aurora, he doesn’t seem fond of me. He glares at me as if I’m his true nemesis..."

Aurora suppressed a laugh at Renata’s voice. But when she noticed Renata’s frown, seemingly puzzled by her expression, she cleared her throat gently.

She sought the correct answer, wishing Renata would cease asking about Josh. Finally, a brilliant idea lit up her mind.

"Sis, are you in love with him?" Aurora asked curiously.

She understood that her best friend, Renata, was not interested in wealthy and attractive men. Yet, when she had feelings for someone, she expressed them openly.

By watching her body language and words toward Josh, Aurora knew that Renata had a crush on him.

Aurora’s question caused Renata to gasp, her lovely brown eyes growing wide with surprise.

’Wait! Did I really!?’ Renata thought, her heart tightening at the realization. ’No, that’s not it. I’m only interested in his appearance. Right!?’ she attempted to soothe her anxious heart.

No words left her lips, yet her flushed cheeks clearly revealed her feelings. She was genuinely interested. The first time she saw Josh, it sparked her desire to get to know him better.

Aurora’s eyes were fixed on Josh, who lowered his gaze while sipping the coffee the waitress had just served him. She silently exhaled and turned her attention back to Renata.

Tilting her head slightly, Aurora whispered, "Sis Renata, if you have feelings for him, it might be best to let them go. He doesn’t seem interested in women."

’I’m sorry, Josh, but this is the best explanation I could come up with,’ Aurora thought, feeling concerned for Josh and hoping this doesn’t cause him trouble.

"Cough! Cough!" After listening to Aurora’s words, Renata gasped for breath, like a fish out of water.

Her face flushed bright red as she accepted the water from Aurora, left utterly speechless by what she had just heard.

"Sister, I’m sorry to have shocked you," Aurora felt terrible for lying to her. She silently scolded herself for coming up with that not-so-funny excuse.

’Geez, Rory, you better apologize to Josh later...’ Aurora reminded herself while smiling awkwardly at Josh, who stared at them in confusion.

"Rena, are you alright?" Danny stood up from his chair and rushed to Renata’s side, worried as he noticed her flushed face and persistent cough. He gently patted her back, showing his concern.

"I’m fine... Really...I’m okay..." Renata said, coughing a bit, but it was finally easing up. She set her glass on the table and tried hiding her surprised expression.

A faint smile flickered on Renata’s lips as she gazed at each of them, attempting to assure them she was okay.

Yet, when her gaze settled on Josh, who was watching her with concern, she couldn’t help but swallow hard.

If she didn’t know his sexual orientation, she might feel flattered to see this man concerned for her. But now, she found it amusing.

’Oh my God, no wonder he didn’t even glance at me, even though I tried to seduce him,’ Renata could only laugh to herself.

...

After Renata was shocked to learn that Josh preferred the same sex over women, they continued chatting again.

At last, Aurora had to bid farewell. It was already eight in the evening.

Although she wished to stay at Serendipity with Renata and Danny, it was time for her to head home. She would be traveling to another city tomorrow, so she needed to pack her things and rest.
