Chapter 49: Improvement

[ Name: Igaris Vance ]

[ Age: 19 ]

[ Power Rank: Elite -6 ]

[ Abilities: Undead Recovery, Basic Blademastery, Six Directional Sense, Gale Wings, Iron Fangs, Rock Boulder Throw ]

[ Innate Ability: Infinite Acquisition ]

The forest’s thick decay gave way to a stone-strewn clearing where Igaris paused to check his progress.

His body pulsed faintly with heat—evidence of recent fights and steady growth. Not far from him lay another formation of camouflaged slumbering golems, partially buried in moss and overgrowth.

He narrowed his eyes.

These weren’t like the previous ones. The pressure they gave off was sharper, faster, coordinated.

Suddenly—

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

They burst into motion.

They Spiked and coiled like armadillos, six of them launched at Igaris and his stone constructs, spinning rapidly like living cannonballs. Their rocky carapaces glinted mid-air, an unnatural shimmer revealing their tightly packed layers of stone and hidden joints.

"Brace!" Igaris shouted, kicking off with a burst of wind using Gale Wings, narrowly avoiding being crushed.

"Swoosh!"

The whirling golems struck down where he’d just stood, slamming into the ground with heavy tremors. Dust erupted, masking the impact zone in a gray cloud.

But Igaris wasn’t alone.

Granitus, the largest of his recent tamed golems, and five others responded in kind, meeting the spinning beasts head-on.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Fists collided.

Stone met stone.

The sounds were deafening. Their raw impact echoed through the clearing as chunks of rock flew in every direction. Cracks snaked across the forest floor. Even trees at the edge bent from the shockwaves.

Igaris’s golems held their ground, but the battle was far from clean.

Granitus grunted under the pressure, one arm fracturing at the joint as it held back a spinning enemy. The enemy golem recoiled mid-spin, its hardened shell shattered at several points.

The wild golems weren’t as sturdy—but their attack patterns were harder to predict, and their self-spinning launch gave them dangerous momentum.

Still, the damage to Igaris’s forces was minimal compared to what the enemy suffered.

"They’re fast... but fragile once they’re done spinning," Igaris observed aloud, narrowing his eyes.

His activated [ Six Directional Sense ]sharpened his awareness as he sidestepped an incoming golem that had rebounded mid-spin.

"Granitus! Counter from above. use Boulder Throw!"

The towering stone beast responded instantly. With a thunderous grunt, it tore a chunk of rock from the ground, then hurled it with brutal speed toward the recovering golem. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"BOOM!"

A direct hit.

The enemy shattered into pieces, fragments raining down like gravel.

Igaris rushed forward to acquire it before it completely lost vitality.

Meanwhile, Evernight, the Dire Wolves, and the rest of his summons joined the battle, providing cover for their master.

"Bang!"

With a single slap from Evernight’s palm, a wild Golem’s entire body vibrated violently before collapsing to the ground in a seizure. She had intentionally held back, choosing not to kill it.

Yet it was terrifying—her raw physical strength exceeded even that of the Earth Golems.

Igaris noticed this and clenched his fist, feeling a wave of shame.

Even if he somehow managed to make her his... how would he handle her in bed? Wouldn’t he be the one to get crushed if he wasn’t careful?

He acknowledged his shortcomings, his mistakes, his weakness and he had always worked to improve on them.

But it still wasn’t enough.

If he wanted to stand beside her, no, if he wanted to claim her heart and body, then he would need to surpass her in all aspects.

It was surprising how, in her presence, Igaris momentarily forgot his thirst for revenge against the Skadis in Orca.

Quirky, the Imperial Griffin, was no less impressive. With its upgraded strength, it crushed Golems beneath its paws.

Iron Fang Hawk bit down with bone-shattering force, while the White Tiger and Fiery Lion displayed their own brand of ferocity across the battlefield.

The Dire Wolves and Fire Spirits, though weaker than the rest, launched their attacks carefully mindful not to get crushed in the chaos.

But such caution wasn’t even necessary. There were only 10 Golems in total.

And slowly, one by one, Igaris Acquired them all.

In total, he now commanded 16 Golems of Elite Rank.

Once subdued, the Golems became strangely obedient. Some even acting playfully before him, like oversized pets seeking his favor.

Seeing this, Evernight let out a soft chuckle. Just moments ago, they had been savage protectors of their territory. Now their loyalty had shifted so suddenly.

Truly mysterious. Not even Necromancy could achieve such a seamless brain washing.

And the one responsible for this godlike feat—was Igaris.

She glanced at him, sensing his aura flaring stronger once again. His growth was rapid, almost unnaturally so.

Would he eventually surpass even her?

And if that happened... would she ever have a chance of getting her freedom back?

She didn’t know, and the uncertainty frightened her sometimes.

Meanwhile, Igaris, having recovered his energy, began naming the Wolves and Golems. At least a few of them.

He wasn’t doing it just to drain their powers dry. No, by naming them, he was enhancing their potential.

Still, he managed to extract two new abilities:

[Spin-Shell Burst]: Grants the user stone-like skin and allows them to burst into enemies with a powerful leap.

[Lightning Shell]: Covers the user’s body in lightning energy, providing defensive support.

And more than that, his Power Rank had risen to Elite - 7 Stage.

Another step forward. Another boundary broken.

He glanced toward the western sky, where the sun was beginning its descent.

He had only a few hours left before nightfall—and nightfall meant he could summon the Undead Knights.

Until then, he planned to continue hunting more Golems. He had only two days left in this hunting ground.

After that, the novices would be summoned and prepared for war. Most of them would likely be used as cannon fodder. And not everyone was aware of that grim reality.

Igaris still didn’t know the exact numbers behind the Freedom Force, so he couldn’t yet estimate the chances of victory.

Only after seeing things with his own eyes would he choose how to act. He might side with one faction or he might stay out of the war entirely.

Yes, he was selfish. But selfish for a reason.

But there was one thing he had to do: apologize to Igor’s family, and tell them the truth.

That he was not the son they once knew.

He was a stranger now.
