Chapter 174: His Golden Seed

“I can assure you, it’s not corruption,” Nyzzara said with a sigh, crossing her arms. “The greatest fighters deserve the best. Our chieftain is the best, so he gets the best. You get the idea?”

“Sure…” Rael rolled his eyes. “Though I guess it doesn’t really matter, since the entire land will look like that soon.”

“Rael…” Zafira muttered. “You weren’t kidding when you said you’d restore all their land?”

“It’s going to be expensive, but if anything…” Rael replied with a shrug as his smirk widened, “I believe the barbarians get quite a bit of money from killing monsters, so a generous contribution is always welcome.”

He turned toward Nyzzara, his smirk still lingering.

“Right?”

“Donations… are not up to me,” Nyzzara said, avoiding his gaze. “But I can put in a good word for you with the chieftain.”

“That’s good enough for me,” Rael replied, flashing Zafira a thumbs-up.

With that, Nyzzara led them toward the giant stone castle, past the guards, and into some sort of inner area.

There were a dozen lounge chairs, and in the very center of it all, a single skinny man with a single red mark on his forehead.

He was old, very old. His hair was all gray, but even so, Rael felt threatened by him, almost as if his strength was barely contained.

“This is Chieftain Jin. Be nice to him, or else he’s going to rip your head off,” Nyzzara stated in a surprisingly serious tone and bowed before the chieftain.

“Chieftain Jin, I’ve brought the person I mentioned last time. He’s the one who claimed to have a way to restore our lands,” Nyzzara added respectfully.

Rael was a bit surprised to see her not act like a tyrant, but aside from that, he stepped up and nodded at the chieftain.

“Nice to meet you, Chieftain Jin. I’m Rael Sutekh…” Rael said as he turned to Zafira. “And this is my lovely wife, Zafira Sutekh.”

She waved at the chieftain, and with that, the introductions were over.

“Hmm…” Chieftain Jin hummed before slowly nodding. “You don’t seem very special for a person claiming to be able to restore our lands.”

“And?” Rael tilted his head. “Does that sway your opinion of me?”

“No,” Chieftain Jin replied flatly. “I have no opinion of you at the moment, young man. The only thing I know is that your promise seems too good to be true.”

“So you do have an opinion then…” Rael facepalmed and decided to cut straight to the chase.

Sprout a batch of 25 Golden Carrot Seeds which can grow in any soil condition, whether it be withered, desert, or unfertilized. Safe for consumption. Water is not needed for growth, but water increases the growth speed.

He bought a single batch for the time being, and soon, a small plastic bag appeared in his palm, storing 25 Golden Carrot seeds.

Rael inspected them to make sure they were fine, and then simply tossed them over to Chieftain Jin, who caught them without even batting an eye.

However, the moment Chieftain Jin inspected the seeds, his hands began trembling more and more until he finally stood up.

The moment he did, his previous skinny figure vanished, replaced by a hulking physique which made Rael seem like a bug in comparison.

Chieftain Jin slowly walked over to Rael, and then, with a blank look, gazed down at him.

“Young man… this is not a joke, is it?”

“It’s not.” Rael shook his head before looking up at the man and narrowing his eyes. “I suppose you considered my proposal? Nyzzara did inform you, correct?”

Chieftain Jin nodded. “She has indeed told me that you wish for us to halt our talks with Aztera.”

“And does this seem genuine enough?” Rael asked. “Do you still want to become slaves to others in order to feed your own? Is that really your game plan here?”

Zafira cleared her throat, stepping in before tensions rose further.

“What he means to say is that we offer the means to keep your independence, whereas Aztera offers only a slower decline, disguised as aid.”

She pinched his waist, then leaned in, whispering into Rael’s ear.

“Unless you’re trying to make him not like you, I’d recommend getting his favor first.”

However, as she finished her words, her brows twitched and she couldn’t help but ask another question.

“You didn’t talk like this with the ruler of Yrgon, did you?”

Rael merely whistled, ignoring her for the time being as he pinched her back and glanced at the chieftain.

“So? What do you say? Slavery, or no slavery?”

Zafira cut in. “He’s saying you’d be free to make your own choices, instead of being told what to do.”

“I see…” Chieftain Jin muttered as he began brushing his long gray beard. “Your offer might not be too good to be true… but there’s always a catch.”

Rael nodded. “The catch is that I don’t want you to attack Celestara under any circumstances. And of course, if we’re ever attacked, your support would be greatly appreciated.”

“Also, we’re willing to employ your people,” Zafira added, surprising all three people present. “Not as slaves, of course. They’d be paid for their work, and naturally, they can choose their method of payment.”

“That means…” Chieftain Jin’s eyes widened.

“Yes.” Zafira nodded as a wide smile appeared on her face. “Whether they want payment in the form of food, crops, money, or even education. Whatever they choose, we’ll make it happen.”

Rael simply stared at her. She was not as straightforward as he was; however, her methods worked just as well, if not better.

Especially this offer of employment. It was simply something the barbarians couldn’t refuse because of their circumstances. It wasn’t as bad as Aztera’s offer, since they’d actually be getting paid for their work.

Therefore, Rael and Zafira glanced at Nyzzara, and then the chieftain, before asking one question in unison:
