Pokemon: The Gameboy Effect-Chapter 231: Gigantamax Venusaur
Chapter 231 - Gigantamax Venusaur
Stephanie stared in disbelief. "Sister?!" He hadn't expected Jeanne to personally come out to greet them.
Jeanne gave her a slight nod before turning to John with an inviting gesture.
John stepped forward calmly, realizing that his hopes of making a grand entrance and impressing the Chiba Gym's disciples were fading fast.
With Jeanne leading the way, John entered the Chiba Gym. Even indoors, the place was teeming with greenery—trees, grass, and shrubs filled the space. Trainers were scattered around, some engaged in intense training, others simply relaxing with their Grass-type Pokemon.
As Jeanne passed by with John, the disciples cast curious glances in their direction.
There were typically only three types of people who came to the Chiba Gym: challengers, visitors, and apprentices.
Challengers were usually in their thirties or forties. Visitors were often friends of the Gym Leader, Leaf Garden, and at least forty years old. Apprentices, on the other hand, were young? closer to John's age.
But today, there was another category: the outsider who had come to take something valuable from their gym.
Some of the disciples had already heard whispers about this. They didn't even need to know what the so-called treasure was? just hearing about John's intentions was enough to make them dislike him.
John couldn't hear their thoughts, but thanks to his Soothe Bell, he could sense the emotions of the Pokemon around him. Their hostility was clear. To them, he was an enemy, because their Trainers saw him as one.
" Charles Darwin sure is popular inside the Chiba Gym," John muttered to himself.
Still, he walked forward without hesitation. If it ever came down to a fight, his Gyarados and Greninja—both trained in Surf? would handle it.
Upon entering the gym's main hall, John spotted Isaac Newton coaching a disciple.
"The key to Razor Leaf is speed," Isaac Newton instructed. "The trick is to fill the leaves with just the right amount of Grass-type energy—not too much, or it'll slow them down. Once that's done, sharpen the edges with Grass energy to make them even more lethal and durable..."
Noticing John from the corner of his eye, Isaac Newton abruptly stopped. "Alright, keep practicing on your own."
Turning to John, he smirked. "Didn't expect you this soon. Thought you'd wait until after the Lantern Festival."
"Isaac Newton wanted to come earlier, so I came along," John replied evenly. "My teacher also asked me to send his regards."
"Master Badman?" Isaac Newton asked, raising an eyebrow.
John nodded.
"Oh, no need for that, I should be the one greeting Master Badman!" Isaac Newton quickly waved his hands, looking almost flustered. In terms of status and experience, Saul Badman was far above him.l
His exaggerated reaction drew curious glances from the surrounding disciples.
"Come on, follow me to the backyard. I've got what I promised you back there," Isaac Newton said, motioning for John to follow.
The backyard was a massive garden, tended to by Bellossom and Vileplume. Beautifly, Vivillon, and Butterfree flitted about, pollinating the flowers. Several disciples were carefully tending to the plants.
As soon as they entered, John was hit by a strong floral scent, but there was something else mixed in. A peculiar fragrance, one that had been lingering ever since he entered the forest. His nose had gradually adjusted to it, but now, it was stronger than ever.
Something was nearby.
Then, he saw it.
A hill, or at least, that's what it looked like at first glance. But no, it was a Venusaur. A massive one. Bigger than even John's Totem Venusaur.
It wasn't a Dynamax Venusaur, nobody kept Pokemon in that state for long. This one was simply... enormous.
It was resting peacefully.
And near it was the source of the strange fragrance, a red flower, vibrant but not overly flashy. A faint mist curled around it, forming visible spirals in the air.
"Venusaur!" Isaac Newton called out.
The Venusaur stirred, then stretched out two vines, gently lifting the red flower along with some soil and handing it to John.
"This is the reward I promised you," Isaac Newton said.
John examined the flower, instantly recognizing that it was something special. But what exactly was it?
"What is this?" he asked.
"I call it the Flower of Legend," Isaac Newton explained. "I found it in a dangerous area purely by chance, and with Badman's help, I managed to bring it back."
He continued, "Its ability is unique—it purifies all negative status conditions in the area. So far, I haven't found a single condition it can't cleanse, even those inflicted by Legendary Pokemon."
John's eyes widened slightly.
"If a Pokemon carries it, every move they use gains a powerful purification effect. And against Poison- and Ghost-types, that effect doubles."
John processed that for a moment. "So, it's a legendary item?"
Isaac Newton nodded. "That's right. It far surpasses ordinary treasure-tier item, it's an undeniable legendary item."
John gave him a skeptical look. "If it's that valuable, why are you giving it to me?"
Before arriving, John had expected Isaac Newton to reward him with a high-tier item, maybe a secret treasure. Even those were rare for Gym Leaders.
After all, he knew how difficult it was to get even a secret treasure-tier Metal Coat. It had taken him a great deal of effort just to obtain one and trade it for a entire Enigma Tree. Compared to that, an actual legendary item was beyond comprehension.
And he and Isaac Newton weren't close. John had only defeated one of his non-main Pokemon. Sure, Isaac Newton might respect him as a Trainer, but enough to give away something this valuable?
No matter how generous Isaac Newton was, even a Pokemon Champion wouldn't hand out legendary items like candy.
