Chapter 274: A Little Room For Too many Problems

These events occurred within two days. In many places around the world, places ravaged by divine beings known as Players, the world’s mightiest army led the greatest hunt in history.

Twilight of the Gods began 2 years ago, and during its course, a number of 53 players were identified.

On the first day, the Wolf Empire brought down Fafnir at his feet, and right after, 2 Players, a Griffin, and a mermaid chimera with octopus tentacles were executed, the first, in a one-sided battle against Pride, the second in a single attack by Dora.

They barely took the time to rest and immediately headed towards the next Players.

It was a difficult experience for Marie, the players had become an obsession for everyone, and seeing them effortlessly eliminated had the effect of losing the reason why she trained so hard.

It was just a thought, but the truth was elsewhere.

On the first day, 13 players died, alongside 73 Black Knights, and on the second day the operation continued.

In a rocky mountain, Fenrir faced Cerberus, a stronger than average Player.

The beast, despite its colossal size, possessed terrifying agility, jumped from mountain to mountain and became a challenge for warriors.

Giudecca threw a barrage of beams, but the beast was already on another mountain.

"Fuck this... SHIT!!!"

Cerberus jumped at her, middle head with jaws wide open.

A giant white ball of fur struck the beast mid-air, Lucca biting Cerberus’ throat, the impact managing to deflect the beast’s trajectory.

Cerberus and the Wolf demon crashed into a cliff, but the player showed a little reaction and pushed off the ground, reaching the sky again, with Lucca at his side.

Giudecca, having landed further away, rushed towards them, with his barrier of cannons forming below.

"Damn it, move!!!"

She was ready to shoot at any moment, but Lucca never let go of the beast.

Cerberus landed further away and began a mad dash with Lucca hanging on his blow, he violently hit any surface of rocks with the side where Lucca was holding, over and over, leaving numerous red spots appearing on the white fur of the wolf, but Lucca kept her hold.

With its gigantic size, the titan could cross mountains so easily that Giudecca’s attempts to follow them were futile.

She ran from side to side, with growing despair on her face.

Normally, she would have fired without a second, but since the start of this operation, something was changing.

Dora and Rhea were on a different front, and here, without a throne, the pseudo Avatars had difficulty facing a Player.

Most of the Black Knights who followed them had been wiped out, their greatest loss since the Kalaharis, and the longer the battle lasted, the more she remembered Rhea’s words.

"You can’t die... You can’t die here, you idiot! Leave her alone, you bastard!!!"

Cerberus jumped over a cliff and let out a shrill roar, the space blurred, the rocks and vegetation had their colors reversed.

The impact hit Giudecca and sent her flying backwards, while above, Lucca finally let go.

The wolf began to fall, blood flowed from its nose and eyes, but Cerberus landed on it, hastening its fall.

The 3-headed dog let out another roar, and this time the atmosphere became redder. A large area was surrounded by gigantic flames, with the player on top of the giant wolf in the middle.

Lucca struggled to raise her head, she opened her eyes only to see Cerberus’ jaws gathering particles of fire to create a fireball.

Giudecca raised her hand, her eyes closed, she too was bleeding from the orifices of her face.

"...L...Lea...Leave her...alo..."

Cerberus’ ball of death grew, his energy became more distinct, Giudecca gritted her teeth and struggled to get up, but then realized that her back was not on the ground.

"...Ngh?"

She opened her eyes and found herself in Marie’s hands, much to her dismay.

"Don’t move, it’s over now."

"What... the.... F.... Urgh... uck!"

She struggled to move away, but another energy froze her.

Cerberus fired his fireball at point-blank range, but the orb froze and the air cracked like a mirror before exploding, the blast covering only his face.

The beast roared and jumped back, he looked at the place where Lucca must have been, but instead of the wolf, it was a lone man holding Lucca like a sack under his arm.

Lucca, seriously injured, opened her eyes, a gentle warmth covered her body and her pain began to disappear.

As her energy returned, she could better see the one holding her, white and green hair, emerald eyes and covered in a gentle aura: Beta.

"...Uh?"

In an instant, her body completely healed, she was left speechless, especially since it was the first time she had encountered this version of Dora, but the Persona was not ready for a speech.

Cerberus roared furiously, the circle of flames rising, Beta, without any hostility in his eyes, stared at the beast, without a single word.

Cerberus took two steps forward, then began to run like the devil, the air getting hotter around him, and then, after one step, a black beam engulfed him.

A black ray rushed into the sky, vibrating the earth and engulfing half of Cerberus.

The monster roared, its body continued its course, but its left leg and the left side of its torso had disappeared, living a black matter crossed with black lightning.

Cerberus used his right paw to stand up and charged another beam, when a red beam pierced the clouds and landed on the Player, destroying his entire upper body.

Beta let out a small sigh and walked towards Marie and Giudecca with Lucca in his hands.

Giudecca’s eyes trembled, she flinched and looked to their left, and to her surprise Omega was sitting on a rock, and to the left, Gamma.

A warmth enveloped her body and in an instant, all traces of pain disappeared as Beta applied his healing without making a visible movement.

"So in the end it was really an Empire of 2 people." Sigma materialized through the ashes floating.

Giudecca groaned and fell into Marie’s arms.

Later that day, they returned to their headquarters in a bar. Giudecca finished her 13th glass of beer, next to Lucca who was worried about her friend’s condition.

"...Maybe you should stop that?"

"Leave me alone, I’m an emissary, alcohol doesn’t affect us."

"Y-yes, but depression does... Maybe we should take a walk? Get some fresh air?"

Giudecca gave her a single look that convinced Lucca to keep her mouth shut. She poured a 14th glass and downed half of it.

"It’s the biggest operation we’ve ever had and we’re on the bench, what kind of freak would want to go for a walk? It’s humiliating! And all because you didn’t let go of this stupid monster!"

"... But... You just had to shoot, like usually... I could have tanked it. I was trying to slow him down."

"You saw how tough he was, you know how hard I’d have to go to kill him? You think you would survive this? Don’t overestimate yourself!"

She finished her glass and groaned like an old man. Lucca looked at her cup of tea in embarrassment, she took a glance to her right.

"Don’t be like this, you could just say that you both committed many mistakes because you care about each other."

"You shut your mouth!" Giudecca stood up, tipping over her chair.

Next to them, the Persona took a sip of black coffee, his eyes void of emotion.

"I made no mistake, it’s only because people like you keep barging in!... And who are you even? You weren’t there before, what’s your deal?!"

The Persona placed his cup and gazed at Giudecca, the calm and serenity of his eyes made the girl flinch for a bit, but to her anger, he answered in the most peaceful voice.

"I am Beta, one of the Personas you’ve already seen. I prefer to avoid things I’m unfamiliar with, so I haven’t shown up before, but I liked the humanity between the two of you, so I felt like staying here for a bit."

Giudecca was about to yell again when caught sight with the complete picture of the bar.

Omega, Sigma, Gamma and Marie were sharing the same table, playing poker with a few drinks on the table, on another table, Alpha was feeding Zury.

"... How those idiots always appear out of nowhere?"

"You’re drunk, that’s why." Sigma put a card on the table.

Giudecca materialized her machine gun and aimed at him, but no one on that table could be bothered.

"You... It’s one of you who told what happened to Rhea, because of you she want me to stay on rest!"

"No, it’s because she overestimated you."

Gamma put another card on the table.

The canon of the gun began to glow, Lucca stood up in panic, but no one else payed any attention.

"Put that thing away before somebody laugh at you." Omega put his card in turn.

Giudecca groaned loudly but eventually lowered her weapon.

She glared at Marie who did get best to ignore her, then returned to her chair.

Lucca rubbed her finger together, she then risked poking her friend’s shoulder.

"... What?"

"Hum... It’s just.. it’s not really true, we’re not benched, Rhea asked everyone to take a break... Oh, and they were with us from the beginning, you really didn’t notice anything?"

Giudecca’s expression changed slightly to a little confusion. She observed again everyone around, then looked again at Lucca.

"The fuck?"

"Language." Alpha said while wiping some sauce from Zury’s lips.

Giudecca groaned loudly and picked her glass with the intention to smash it, but struggled to not snap in front of them, sadly for her, it was also in front of Sigma.

"Impossible... The power of anger has been defeated by the might of alcoholism."

"Will you just shut up?! Why are you always testing me? You don’t have any friends?"

"... Drunkard."

Giudecca’s feet left the ground, but she stopped in midair in Beta’s hands.

"Could we stop doing this now? Even in time like this you guys can’t be serious?"

The others rolled their eyes and engaged in their game.

"Why being serious? This is the perfect time to enjoy a little peace, after what happened."

Alpha poured some wine in two glasses for him and Zury.

Giudecca touched the floor again, her anger growing and mixing with frustration.

"Maybe I didn’t won, but it’s the first time! Why is it like the biggest problem in the world?"

Beta rised an eyebrow and looked at Lucca who answered him by shaking her head.

"... Because this is currently the biggest problem in the world."

"Why?!"

"I’m not talking about you."

Beta sat down again, poured a cup of milk and invited Giudecca at sitting down too.

She was very confused but when she saw the insistence in Lucca’s eyes, she executed.

"You’re not talking about me? Then why did Rhea put everyone on break?"

Beta put the glass of milk in front of her, his eyes narrowing.

"Because... A Sin Avatar died yesterday." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
