Chapter 117: Farewell

Midgard finished applying the healing to Elizabeth.

The legend’s body has been cleansed of all scars and dirt.

She was lying with her hands on her chest, a smile on her frozen face.

Midgard then used creation magic and repaired her armor, then created a bouquet of heliotrope and placed it in her hands.

She looked at her with melancholy and stroked her hair.

"Such a beautiful woman, what a waste."

She was silent for a moment, then she felt a shiver run through her body.

In the sky, Dora was floating, unconscious.

The explosion sent him flying away, but surprisingly, he didn’t fall back. It was exactly the opposite.

On the ground, Midgard raised her head, her gaze filled with great despair.

Her eyes shone and her pupils shrank.

Dora floated towards the rift, slowly, higher and higher.

It was an unreal sign, but as he went higher, a shape was visible around him.

Midgard stood slowly, moving forward in disbelief.

From her perspective, Dora was right in the middle of the Rift, like the pupil of an eye, but in this world, the more horrible a situation was, the more real it was.

A flash of light illuminated the dark clouds of the vortex, and the Rift gazed back.

Midgard opened her mouth wide, in the sky, the Rift clouds on the left disintegrated and a gigantic dark purple hand emerged.

In the distance, another hand emerged from the clouds, both opening beneath Dora as if to keep him from falling.

To put things into perspective, it was as if the Rift itself came to life and the entrance was an eye, with a pupil in the form of a pink cross, larger than the whale and Fafnir.

Dora approached the Rift, and a flash of pink suddenly struck him.

The boy began to scream, purple veins appearing on his body.

Midgard flinched and rushed forward, she was about to jump when the whale pushed another thrilling song.

The snake woman held her chest, feeling as if the sound was tearing away her soul.

She tried to use Angelo’s power on Dora but to her surprise, her hand glitched.

Her eyes were shaking, and she looked above.

"It’s taking him... it’s taking him from me!"

Helpless, she started running forward, but the whale song increased.

She felt on her knee, holding her chest in pain.

"Leave... Leave him! Let him... Go!... Don’t take him..."

She fell to the ground, fighting to breathe, a painful feeling in her chest.

"He’s everything I have... please..."

In the sky, the Rift entity brought Dora closer.

The boy’s eyes became black, while the purple veins were glowing.

Dora’s screams were reduced.

As the presence grew in him, his mind traveled.

Thousands of images flashed through his mind.

He saw worlds that he didn’t know, shadows of individuals.

He was like separated from his body and flying like a bullet in a tunnel.

Thousands of screens flew next to him, each displaying a different scenery.

A school, a forest, a burning manor, magical animals flying, and people.

His body seemed to fly higher then, the images becoming more detailed and even some sounds were audible.

-tood, I won’t lay a hand on one of them. Only them.

-word and a shield? Is there a difference?

Instinct? Don’t you mean yourself?

He reached higher and higher, drowning in this ocean.

and suddenly felt a warm aura gathering around him and his view blurred.

"My real name is..."

Midgard flinched as she felt her energy return.

She raised her gauze and, to her surprise, the giant hands disintegrated.

Dora’s body began to fall, slowly.

A dragon opened a large mouth just below him and bit into the air.

The young boy was right in Midgard’s arms, able to use her power again.

Fafnir roared once last time, and his mouth glowed purple.

Midgard frowned and decided to use the dimensional room, but once again, her hand glitched.

Dora’s eyes started shining purple again.

Midgard looked at the giant eye, hidden behind the purple light of Fafnir’s mouth.

She lowered her eyes and looked at Dora’s face.

She then closed her eyes and sighed in relief.

"... I see... It needs your body, to enter this world... this is another Player."

She gave a sad smile to Dora and looked at Elizabeth’s body far away.

"Is it possible... To hate that much my species?... Hm... where are you, Candace? this is your chance to insult me, I won’t even protest..."

A purple mist spread around them.

Fafnir’s giant skeletal head leaned toward them.

"Ah... Is there at least one person... To hear the last speech of a dying girl?... It’s so lonely... So..."

Suddenly her eyes trembled.

Dora’s eyes narrowed, although he remained unconscious.

She rested her head against his.

"Sorry, I’m a little emotional today. I’m not alone, I never was... Thanks to you. I’ve lived forever, but the time I spent with you has been the best of my life. Thank you, for teaching me to enjoy life. Before you, I didn’t know that the same food could taste better on a friend’s plate... Thank you, for for teaching me that not all Avatars are scary... thank you... for teaching me how amazing it is to be human... there are so many other things that I’d like to say, so many things you’ve done for me... but if I try to tell everything, we’ll both be killed."

She looked at the Rift with a smile.

"Ah, you can’t take possession of a fully awakened Avatar, can you?"

Her body began to glow, meaning her energy was usable again.

She caressed Dora’s face, a smile on her lips.

"You’re going to hate me for this, but after all... I don’t have the will to kill you, it’s my sin... But Elizabeth gave you a gift to help you on your journey. Life will be hard, everything will change, I’m going to give you the most painful feeling, but I know you have a big soul. Don’t ever change, don’t fall into despair... don’t let him win... We will always be by your side, me and Elizabeth, and when we see each other again, we will have fun... as humans."

She slowly leaned on Dora and placed a soft kiss on his lips.

The boy glowed a white color.

Kneeling, Midgard smiled and looked at the incoming breath of the Dragon King.

"Thank you for the memories... Thank you for teaching me love."

Fafnir released a gigantic beam of purple smoke, engulfing Midgard and spreading across the city.

From the center to the border, the smoke engulfed everything.

Then the Dragon’s eyes turned red and the smoke ignited.

The sheet of purple smoke became an ocean of red explosion, covering the entire space of the big city.

The Dragon’s body cracked again and grew, just like the beam which gradually turned white.

Dragons and water monsters covered the sky, and above them, the wide-open Rift watched the end of a world.

The raid was a failure and the Twilight of the Gods was only beginning.
