Nate gritted his teeth as he ducked behind a fallen crate, his breathing controlled despite the intense fight. He could feel the effects of the gas weighing on his body. His enhanced strength had already weakened, and his stamina was beginning to drain faster than normal. He had to end this quickly before it got worse.

Glancing over the top of the crate, he saw one soldier advancing cautiously, his weapon aimed directly at him. Nate knew he had only seconds to act. He grabbed a loose piece of debris from the ground and hurled it toward the man. The soldier instinctively flinched, momentarily distracted. That was all Nate needed. He dashed forward, closing the distance in the blink of an eye.

Before the man could react, Nate grabbed the barrel of his rifle and yanked it to the side, twisting the soldier's arm in the process. A sharp cry of pain escaped him, but Nate didn't stop. He drove his elbow into the man's face, feeling the satisfying crunch of bone beneath the impact. The soldier crumpled to the ground, unconscious or dead—Nate didn't care which.

The remaining soldiers were already regrouping, forming a defensive line further down the hallway. Their tactics were disciplined. These weren't ordinary mercenaries—they knew what they were doing. Nate exhaled slowly, steadying himself. He had faced worse. Even without his powers, he wasn't going down that easily.

His grip on the gun tightened as he charged forward again. The soldiers opened fire immediately, but Nate zigzagged through the corridor, making himself a difficult target. He slid behind another crate, then quickly popped up and fired off a controlled burst. One soldier fell. Then another. But there were still too many.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps behind him made him tense. Reinforcements. More were coming. He could already hear the metallic clicks of weapons being reloaded. This wasn't good. He needed a way out—and fast.

His thoughts flickered to Alice and Sera. They should have reached the other prisoners by now. He had to make sure they had a clear path out. Taking a deep breath, he steadied himself and prepared for the next wave.

The door behind the soldiers suddenly burst open.

A new figure stepped into the hallway, clad in dark armor with a visor covering their face. Unlike the other soldiers, this one exuded an aura of control. The moment he appeared, the other men fell silent, waiting for orders.

Nate narrowed his eyes. This one was different.

The armored figure took a step forward, his boots clicking against the tile floor. "You," he said, his voice slightly distorted through the helmet. "Surrender now, and we won't have to kill you."

Nate smirked, gripping his gun tighter. "You sure about that? Because from where I'm standing, you're already losing."

The figure tilted his head slightly. "You're outnumbered, and your powers are gone. Do you really think you can win?"

Nate took a moment to glance at the bodies scattered across the hallway, then back at the armored soldier. His smirk didn't waver. "If you really believed that, you wouldn't be talking. You'd already be pulling the trigger."

The armored figure went silent for a moment, then sighed. "So be it."

With a swift motion, he raised his hand. Nate barely had time to react before a concussive blast of energy shot from the soldier's palm, slamming into him like a truck. His body flew backward, crashing into the wall with a force that knocked the wind out of him.

He groaned, trying to push himself up, but his limbs felt sluggish. The soldier had just confirmed what he already suspected—they weren't normal.

The armored figure stepped forward, his movements precise and controlled. "I'll give you one last chance," he said. "Stay down."

Nate wiped a trickle of blood from his lip and forced himself onto his feet. His entire body ached, but he refused to show weakness.

He cracked his neck and smirked. "You hit like a baby."

The soldier's visor tilted downward slightly, as if observing him. Then, without another word, he braced his fist.

Nate stared at the armored figure, his sharp eyes scanning the intricate design of the suit. It was clear now how this guy was able to unleash those energy blasts earlier. If it had been an ordinary human, his previous attack would have been enough to rip them apart.

The massive soldier took a step forward, his heavy boots cracking the already damaged floor beneath him. Nate responded in kind, stepping forward as well, his muscles coiled and ready. Then, without warning, the giant swung a massive fist downward, aiming to crush Nate under sheer brute force.

Reacting on instinct, Nate raised his elbow and braced himself. The impact sent a shockwave through his body, his knees buckling slightly under the tremendous pressure. He gritted his teeth. Even without his powers, he was still strong—but this guy was on another level. Every soldier in the vicinity stared, their expressions shifting from confidence to concern. This wasn't how things were supposed to go. That armor granted the giant enhanced strength, allowing him to overpower any normal human easily. Yet, here was Nate, still standing, still fighting back.

"Ahhhhh!" Nate roared, shoving the massive hand aside with everything he had. The sudden force threw the armored giant off balance, leaving him exposed for just a split second. That was all the time Nate needed.

With every ounce of strength left in him, he drove his fist straight into the giant's stomach.

Boom!

The impact was like an explosion, sending the massive soldier soaring through the air. His heavy body crashed into a group of other soldiers behind him, the sheer force killing at least ten of them on the spot. Their bodies crumpled under the weight of their own comrade, blood pooling across the cracked ground.

Nate exhaled heavily, his fists still clenched. He had been underestimated, and now they were paying the price.

The armored soldier groaned, staggering to his feet. His suit, which had seemed impenetrable before, was now visibly dented and cracked where Nate had struck him. His breathing was ragged, his chest rising and falling as he processed what had just happened.

"Impossible…" he murmured, his voice laced with disbelief. His suit had withstood RPG blasts, shrapnel, and gunfire without a scratch. And yet, Nate—just one man—had managed to cause this much damage with nothing but his bare hands.

He barely had time to react before Nate was upon him again.

A blur of motion. A flash of determination in Nate's eyes.

Then—

Crack!

A devastating punch slammed into the side of his helmet. The reinforced metal didn't just crack—it shattered completely, pieces of it flying off as his head snapped sideways from the force. His body wavered, struggling to stay upright.

But Nate wasn't done.

Seizing the opportunity, Nate gripped the massive soldier by his collar, lifting him slightly off the ground. With a deep breath, he delivered one final blow directly to the man's exposed skull. This time, the force was reduced—just enough to end it without sending another shockwave through the battlefield.

A sickening crunch echoed through the air.

The soldier's body went limp as blood poured from his nose and mouth, his brain turned to mush from the sheer impact. His lifeless form slumped against Nate's grip before crumbling to the ground like a fallen statue.

Silence.

For a brief moment, none of the remaining soldiers moved. They had just watched their strongest fighter—the one they believed was unstoppable—get utterly dismantled by a man who wasn't even using any enhanced abilities.

Nate straightened up, his breathing steady as he rolled his shoulders, shaking off the soreness from the fight. He glanced at the others, his gaze sharp and unwavering.

"Well?" he muttered, voice low and dangerous.

Even still, the soldiers weren't backing off. It was very obvious that they came here beforehand knowing they might die. Their mentality was dangerous and alarming. They moved in unison, stepping into a formation, their rifles steady as they unleashed another hail of bullets at Nate. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Luckily, Nate still had the big guy's body. Without hesitation, he lifted the massive corpse and used it as a shield. The reinforced armor absorbed the bullets, sparks flying as the rounds ricocheted off the thick plating. The weight of the body barely fazed him, his muscles flexing as he maneuvered it effortlessly.

He remained still, waiting, counting the shots. The moment the soldiers' clips ran empty, he sprang into action. Before they could reload, he adjusted his grip on the dead man's armor, lifting him high into the air. With all his strength, Nate hurled the armored corpse straight into the mass of soldiers.

The impact was devastating. The sheer force of the throw turned the massive body into a projectile, crashing through the tightly packed formation. The first row of soldiers barely had time to react before the armored mass slammed into them, crushing bones, twisting limbs, and flattening bodies under its immense weight. The sickening sound of flesh and metal colliding echoed through the hallway as at least thirty soldiers were completely obliterated, their remains mashing together into an unrecognizable heap of gore.

Silence followed. The corridor, once filled with the relentless crackle of gunfire, was now eerily still. Nate straightened, his breaths controlled and steady as he surveyed the carnage. Blood pooled at his feet, the stench of death thick in the air.

There was no soldier in sight anymore… at least for now.
