The capital city of Mavors stood as the defiant bastion of the Colonial Dominion amidst the chaos of war. Nestled deep inside the fortress island, its skyline was jagged with silhouettes of towering spires and fortified battlements of entrenched Arcanum Engines. Its streets was a labyrinth of stone and encompassed by colonial architecture. It wasn't merely a capital city, but a representative of the defiant spirit of Mavors.

Yet, above its skies, the heavens burned.

The strategic ships of the Sentinel Fleet hung like dark omen, their hulls glinting ever slightly under the wave of crimson breaths from wyverns and the overpowering blasts of the Arcanum Engines. The intricate runic barriers of each vessels shimmered under the volleys of plasma and energy, and it remained resilient akin to a dam containing a vast amount of water.

Soldiers of the colonial army manned the cannon emplacements and defensive batteries alongside trenches that was deeply embedded into the cityscape. Their faces weighted with grim determination as though they were ready to die for the sake of their homeland. Such prospect wasn't that far from reality, for honor and legacy was promised for their lives.

Men really were simple creatures.

The adepts of the Magus Tower ensured the maintenance of the runic generators, weaving runes of magicraft with intensity and ease. Each runic generator was a towering pylon that protruded from the expanse of colonial architecture, yet it remained defiant and invincible against the bombardment of the strategic ships drifting across the burning heavens.

Deep within the heart of the capital city was a lone but magnificent bunker of the Viceroy. It was the central command of the Colonial Dominion, its mind. Inside the interiors of the underground halls was the Viceroy of Mavors. He was Viceroy Vorne, the honored regent of the Colonial Dominion. Though, what was supposed to be an honorable figure paced across the room.

His face etched with anxiousness.

Surrounding him were his advisors and generals whose loyalty were undeniable. They stood in tense silence, awaiting orders from the regent of Mavors. As a thousand thoughts surged within his mind, trying to find an answer, there was nothing. Upon this realization, he gritted his teeth and slammed his arms unto the round table. "An hour has passed."

"An hour... Was all it took for them to press us like weaklings. Steel walkers have penetrated the outer districts of the capital city. Cannon emplacements and trenches barely stopped these abominable giants. How do you propose to resist them?" Viceroy Vorne questioned his advisors and generals, wanting to hear a solution from them.

They were like lambs resisting a butcher that had brought them into a slaughter house. Their defeat was inevitable. It was a merely a matter of time, and the viceroy acknowledged this simple fact. It was for this reason why he desired for another path than defeat. A road that could bestow them victory against the heretical nation of the United World Government.

A broad-shouldered general leaned forward and uttered with a grave tone. "The Arcanum Engines are keeping their ships and steel walkers at bay. The pylons also ensure that we would be bombarded into damnation by their vessels. The circumstance could be not as severe as we think. Perhaps, reinforcing our cannon and defense emplacements could implicate the steel walkers."

His words resounded within the hall, earning the nod of agreement from multiple generals and advisors. The viceroy took a deep breath and calmed himself down. "You may be correct. As long as we play our cards right, we can fight them in a war of attrition. Maybe they would be forced to withdraw the moment their supplies become low."

Vorne understood the words of his general. Panicking didn't do them any good. For as long as they remained in the defensive and ensure that their defenses maintained its prowess regardless the time, they might even outlast the vessels that hung over the heavens above the capital city. Through this thought process, the central command began conversing strategies to defend Mavors.

"At any rate, the barriers stand but the heretics are adapting. Those steel walkers are converging towards the pylons. Its clear what they planned to do. Disabling the barriers and shielding would be their priority. As such, defending these structures would be ours." The viceroy pointed at the maps where several pylons erecting the runic defenses were marked.

"As you said, my lord. The steel walkers are tearing through our emplacements. We may require the reinforcements of Arcanum Engines to ensure the defensive capability of the emplacements surrounding the pylons." An advisor commented, earning the furrowed eyebrows of the viceroy. "Then, utilize those Arcanum Engines. Concentrate in defending the pylons."

"Instead of actively resisting them, we must be smart and focused on the things that matter the most. Their bombardments are useless if they do not have the capability to utterly breach our runic barriers and shielding. For this reason, our forces must pivot towards the runic generators within the pylons. Does anyone disagree?" He questioned his subordinates, who didn't give a single reply.

"Good, let's turn our attention to somewhere else. Tell me about the current status of our wyvern force." The viceroy wanted to know how much wyvern riders were left after the first confrontation within the heavens that burned at this very moment. Another general stepped forward and reported to the regent of Mavors. "My lord, thousands of wyverns have been lost."

"Only a fifth remained."

Although the generals and advisors didn't show it from their faces, arms trembled upon hearing the news of the wyverns' almost total annihilation. The casualties of wyvern riders would be something that they wouldn't be able to recover for decades to come. Of course, this was under the circumstance they won the war against the heretical nation.

Vorne's gaze hardened as he clenched his fingers. "I see... The skies above are a slaughterhouse. Our wyverns do not stand a chance against their heretical vessels. But their sacrifices will not be in vein. As ordered before, we will maintain our focus on the ground. Those pylons must be defended no matter what."

"We will not fall!"

Meanwhile, inside the outer districts of the capital city, MECH Squadrons navigated through the rubble-filled streets and decimated architectures. They tore through defensive emplacements with ease, slaughtering every soldier that could be detected by their visual apparatus. The EM rifles hummed with undeterred power while the MECHs utilized the labyrinth-like streets of the cityscape.

Their operation directive was the destruction of towering pylons that maintained the defensive array, which covered the entirety of the capital city. As long as the pylons remained standing, the strategic ships wouldn't be able to support them, which meant that they would be alone while fighting against the soldiers of the colonial army.

*Stay sharp, the target is half a click from our position.* Through the comms, the voice of the squadron officer resounded with cold and utter calm. The UNSS Vagabond ensured they were fed with intel, which avoided ambushes that would have been troublesome even for them.

As the MECH Squadron advanced through the devastated streets, the ground shook. From the shadows of a collapsed building, a lone Arcanum Engine pressed forward. It was the war machine of humanity with the magical-technology of the Magus Tower engraved unto its very essence. It was a troublesome adversary that even the Assault MECHs found difficult to destroy.

Usually, to disable these landships required the strategic strikes from the vessels above them. However, with the runic barriers that impeded direct support, their strikes lacked the precision to inherently destroy the siege engines.

*AE Contact! Take cover!* Their officer yelled through the comms as the Arcanum Engine blasted its heavy gun emplacement. *BOOM!!!* The buildings behind them exploded into damnation as the shockwave scattered dust, which encompassed the entirety of the streets. The land ship continued to drive onward, moving steadfast against the abominable giants before it.

The EM rifles of the Assault MECHs fired at the siege engines, only for their shells to bounced from its shielding. It was practically ineffective against the war machine of the Colonial Dominions. Realizing the problem, the Squadron Officer swiftly contacted a nearby Artillery Squadron at the rear from their position. This squadron consisted of the second-type of MECHs.

These MECHs were known as the Artillery MECHs, spider-like walkers capable of wielding EM guns that belonged to warships. There was no doubt that these units would be capable of puncturing through the shielding of the Arcanum Siege Engines. Though, it remained to be answered.

The officer reported the coordinates of the Arcanum Engine while ordering the MECH Squadron to take cover further into the decimated buildings of the outer districts. The Assault MECHs stopped suppressing the siege engine and followed the orders of their squadron officer.

On the other hand, within a clear at the fringes of the outer districts. Artillery MECHs were embedded deep within the ground, their spider-like legs maintaining the stability of the warship-grade EM gun. After receiving the coordinates from the squadron officer, their turrets and barrels gradually shifted. In mere moments after the reception, the Artillery Squadron opened fire.

*BAM!!!* *BAM!!!* *BAM!!!* *BAM!!!* *BAM!!!*

The shockwave escaping from them caused dust to cover their spider-like bodies. It was the manifestation of their firepower. After all, they were considered as the snipers of the Sentinel.

Returning to the MECH Squadron, the officer observed the progressing Arcanum Engines while also maintaining his distance. A couple of seconds later, a shriek pierced through the air as the land ship was bombarded into damnation. Flashes of light gleamed as an explosion deafeningly filled the air. It brought about a shockwave that collapsed nearby buildings.

*BOOM!!!*
