Chapter 37 - Third Step of Infinite Nanite Cultivation (Cascade - Part 7)

'I'm about to break through? Just from this silly encounter alone?'

Theo furrowed his brows, wrinkles appearing all over the bridge of his nose while he leaned his head back in weirded-out surprise.

'But... how?'

In theory, he could just ask the hive and get over the issue, effectively moving on to make good use of this sudden momentum. But for once, Theo decided against it.

Not because he had something against the hive. He opted to take his sweet time simply because he wanted to figure out the answer to this question by himself.

And the answer was there, all in his face, perfectly easy to detect with the lingering sensation in his entire body left behind by the dissolving adrenaline.

'Was it my emotions?' Theo thought for a moment, recalling everything that he could about the encounter that had just ended. 'No, that's not it,' he shook his head before lowering it a little, only to then support his chin with his hand. 'But if it's not about the mental state, then what, just the explosion of adrenaline?'

Once again, Theo shook his head.

While quite probable, this simply didn't feel like the right answer. And if such was actually the case, then wouldn't it mean that most of the cultivators in the world would be adrenaline junkies, addicted to doing whatever it took to get another shot of it?

That kind of sight, however, was nowhere to be seen, not even in the academy where the concentration of cultivators was infinitely higher than in any other part of the world.

But if it wasn't Theo's emotions nor their physical manifestation in the form of adrenaline, then...

Then just what made him leap over the very last bit of cultivating the second step, the last bit that he ended up missing due to Tesh distracting him right as he was about to finish it up?

'Wait, is it because I actually unleashed my power, even if merely due to my own inexperience in handling it?'

Feeling as if he had finally caught onto something, Theo quickly moved to verify his findings with the hive.

'Yeah, that's obvious,' Theo resisted the desire to roll his eyes.

There were things that nanites could do and there were things that they were incapable of. And while, to a degree, they could freely modify and restore Theo's body, if his habits and actions led to a total degradation of it, who was there to stop the nanites from wrongly reading the genetic information and thus accelerating the natural evolution of his cells, leading to cancers and what-not?

In theory, in a perfect world with an integrated hive of all of humanity having enough processing power to run occasional sweeps through the entire population to remove such degradations, now that Theo was the one and only source of nanites in this world, he could no longer rely on this passive health insurance of sorts.

"Well, it's a good thing that I've never had any plans to rely on it like that," he muttered to himself as he finally felt satisfied and returned to his cultivation spot.

Once again, however, Theo refused to just sit down and focus on exploiting the opportunity right within his reach, opting to clean up the area a bit first and even taking his time to pour all the remaining soup into a separate, smaller pot that was all the easier for him to access than the massive, barrel-sized one that he used to make the soup in the first place.

Done with all of those steps and prepared for the next push for greater heights, Theo relaxed down on his seat and closed his eyes, taking some time to properly calm down before focusing his attention on the task ahead.

'Hive, if you would, the third step...'

-Continue absorbing more energy and nanites into your structure

-Use your existing strength to establish a set of over-condensed points marked on the provided diagram

-Create a central hub for energy/nanites in the location highlighted on the diagram

-Overflow the reinforced energy logistics to establish a proper flow

'Wait, is every step of this infinite nanite cultivation going to include more and more of the ranks of this world's usual cultivation?' Theo thought, his eyebrows moving up on his forehead as he realized the significance and weight of this discovery.

The first step related to just one cultivation rank of this world. The second step of his own technique related to two ranks of the local cultivation. And now that he moved on to the third step, it combined three different ranks of local cultivation at once?!

'The question is, how will my personal rank compare to the practitioners of the local techniques? And won't it mean that I will run out of theories to improve on long before I reach the point where I'm actually strong enough?'

Would the infinite nanite cultivation make Theo stronger than those of his level but weaker than those who cultivated higher ranks? And if such was the case, how was he ever supposed to triumph over those who cultivated into way higher ranks than what he would ever be able to?

Theo gritted his teeth.

This question alone would normally be able to make him stop and reconsider what he was doing.

Regretfully, he wasn't in a position where he could take things easy and make sure no step he took would be a wrong one.

'With that recent encounter, I've drawn even more heat to myself. And now...'

Heaving a long sigh, Theo forced himself to accept the harsh reality.

'And now, it's only a matter of time before they use what happened a moment ago as an excuse to push me even harder.'

Up until this point, Theo got it relatively easy, somehow avoiding all of the scripted events of the young masters claiming he's courting death, jade beauties talking to him and thus bringing over the wrath of their suitors over his head, or the elders awakening from their slumber only to consider him an arrogant youth they felt personally tasked with the job of tempering.

But now?

Theo shook his head.

In the short moment between tossing Tesh out and closing his door, he vaguely sensed a presence down at the end of the corridor. Normally, he would likely ignore this feeling... But given the circumstances, he made sure to check it over with the hive.

And, as if to prove his unorthodox luck had finally run out, the hive left him with absolutely no doubts about it—there were witnesses to his altercation with Tesh. And even a single witness of what happened meant that the storms were likely already gathering over Theo's head, even if he himself had no way of actually knowing it!

A situation like this left Theo with no other choice but to grow stronger. He had to grow strong enough to deal with anything this world would throw at him before it actually happened! And with that in mind?

With that in mind, Theo had no other choice but to put all his doubts and hesitations aside and dive head-first into his hive-designed cultivation, even if doing so meant putting a nigh-impassable limit on just how strong he could get in the future!

"Okay then, let's get this over with. The sooner," Theo breathed out as he pushed all the thoughts aside and focused on the task ahead, "the better."

Sinking into the world of his own internal state, Theo took a hefty gulp of the soup directly from the smaller pot before driving his nanites and the energy accompanying them throughout the established pathways, using small amounts of said energy to condense his flow even further.

This, in the exact same way as it happened before, only served to create a vector for the nearby energy to follow, sinking into Theo's skin, getting purified by the boundary of his pathways, and then joining in the flow, quickly reaching the levels of condensation beyond the limits of what his structure was actually able to hold.
