My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 60: Melina’s Perspective (Part 3)
Chapter 60: Melina’s Perspective (Part 3)
While sparring with the knights, I noticed that none of them wanted to be my partner because they were scared of hurting me.
I even heard one of them saying: "We are commoners. If we hurt the princess, the king will have our heads!"
("Seriously? Who the hell do they think we are?") I thought, offended.
Luckily, one of the knights offered to be my partner, and I used that chance to show everyone my skills, swiping the feet of the knight from the ground as I waved my wooden sword from afar and cast air magic to make him fall on his back.
After that first sparring session, I had no trouble looking for a partner again.
A few days later, while we were training with the knights, Ivy told Ichiro that she had seen something big in the forest. Apparently, killing that one black snake could bring out a more powerful monster since black snakes are supposed to be its prey.
However, Ichiro didn’t seem to worry about the fairie’s warning. Not that he didn’t take it seriously. He just looked like he had it under control, no matter what kind of monster it would be.
Ichiro reported to the adventurers guild about the black dragon serpent that could potentially attack, and they dispatched different groups to locate it while we went back to our routine.
A few days later, the scouts returned, saying they had found the black dragon serpent but would need a large group of people to hunt it down.
The high-ranked adventurers in town began to get ready and formed a large party to go into the forest. The knights also stopped their training and moved to the town’s gates to reinforce the defenses, just in case.
Our group went a different way from the adventurers, but we ended up meeting them again after scouting for the entire day and finding the serpent engaged in battle with them.
The monster was incredibly big. I knew it would be, but I never expected something of that scale as it towered above all of the trees in the forest.
Ichiro’s attacks were wounding it a little, but they weren’t really doing much for us other than making it angrier.
When nighttime came, dozens of other monsters called the "ananta" arrived to help the serpent. One of the adventurers said that the ananta worshipped dragon serpents since they only appeared every fifty years or so.
Seeing that Ichiro used light magic to illuminate the forest, I helped him out and made another luminous mote to help the adventurers.
Just as we were about to retreat, the knights arrived, and the tables turned against the monsters. They had the advantage of having the serpent, and we had the advantage in numbers.
I saw Ichiro and Vespera running toward the giant monster, and I decided to follow them to help out while telling the maids to keep helping the knights.
The serpent didn’t know who to pay attention to as Ichiro tried burning its scales, so I used that opportunity to move around quickly and confuse it. Thankfully, Ichiro and Vespera saw through my plan and attacked it as soon as it laid its eyes on me.
We kept fighting it for a few more minutes, and I managed to break through its scales. However, it made the serpent go into a frenzy and launched itself into the air at an incredible speed.
I had time to move, but my body wasn’t responding to my command.
("Please... Move!") I desperately thought, and when I closed my eyes in fear, I felt a tug on my body and was suddenly whisked away to the side.
I opened my eyes and saw Ichiro hugging me while the serpent crashed and borrowed into the ground, creating a shockwave that sent us flying.
When we got up, I saw Ichiro’s bloody back, and his expression had changed into a more fierce look. Ever since I met him, he was either smiling or relaxed, no in between.
I tried apologizing, thinking he was angry at me for getting him hurt, but he didn’t say a word as he placed his hand on the ground, then yelled at Vespera to move back.
In the end, Ichiro used that super destructive magic that he had spoken about but never taught me, finally killing the serpent and ending the battle.
When I ran up to him, I saw that he was trying to cast his void pocket spell.
("He needs a potion!") I thought as I used magic to move even faster toward him, but when I got there, he had fallen unconscious already. Although at least I managed to catch him before hitting the ground.
Vespera arrived a few seconds later and gave me a healing potion, so I poured it all over his back before taking him back to town.
I spent that entire night next to him to ensure he didn’t need anything during the night. The maids told me they could watch over him, but I felt guilty about his injury and wanted to be there.
__________
When Ichiro woke up the following day, I apologized again, thinking he still hated me. Yet, he said he was never angry with me but angry at the fact that I could have gotten hurt.
I didn’t know what to say and just held his hand silently for a moment before Carli told us to eat breakfast.
The town had an enormous feast that day that lasted throughout the night, and when I saw the kids playing the instruments that Ichiro had made, they seemed, once again, strangely familiar.
I thought that Ichiro probably had a talent for music, considering he was good at everything, so I thought he would be interested in trying out the piano, which was manufactured in the capital.
I used the time we sent the instruments to my parents to send them another letter, telling them about everything that had happened in the last few weeks. Although, I did downplay the events with the dragon serpent a little not to worry them too much.
We returned to our routine for a few more weeks when the piano finally arrived, and after setting it up in the improvised balcony that Ichiro built in his home, we played around with it for a little.
Then, just as I suspected, Ichiro began playing a tune that was familiar to me and beautiful too. He called it "Moonlight Sonata," followed by a few others that I found myself humming in my head, although I didn’t know why.
When everyone went to bed, Ichiro stayed outside with the piano, and I changed into my pajamas. I heard another tune that he didn’t play before. However, something inside me was telling me that I knew that song.
("That tune... I have heard it before, but where?") I thought as I returned to the balcony and listened to Ichiro play without making a sound not to startle him.
Suddenly, midway through the song, he stopped playing. When I instinctively asked him why, he addressed me as "princess" like he had done ever since we met.
Honestly, it was kind of getting on my nerves.
He treated everyone the same, but he would never call me by my name, and I couldn’t understand why.
When I persuaded him to say my name, I also managed to convince him to play that last song one more time.
When he began, it wasn’t only the music that seemed familiar to me but the entire scenario. It was as if it had happened before.
Ichiro was playing with his eyes closed, and when I stared at him, the dark-haired man with a scar on his face appeared again in my vision.
He looked like a ghostly figure sitting next to Ichiro, playing the same notes that he played with a smile. At that same moment, Ichiro turned to look at me, and the ghostly man did, too, with a somewhat sad smile.
("D-do I know that man?") I thought to myself as I stared at Ichiro with a dumbfounded expression.
I asked for the song’s name to see if maybe I could recognize it, but all he said was my name and laid his head down on the piano.
I tried doing a little acting as I jokingly pouted, but then, another thought crossed my mind.
We would be registering as adventurers in a few months, and I was pretty excited to know what would be our first visit.
Ichiro said he wanted to visit Port Town Blue, and I agreed because I wanted to see that city too, as I had only been there as a baby. Although, to think that our adventures would be put on halt after one year made me a little sad.
("Well, that’s a long time from now. I shouldn’t fret about it yet...") I thought as I was determined to have fun with Ichiro in our adventures.
