Ripping her blade free from the monster's shoulder, Lady Fenyras was showered in a red light as that energy poured from the wound just like blood would have, but where that delectable liquid might have splashed against her and stained the ground this energy just pooled around her like a mist.

A charged mist that stung at her flesh as she grimaced slightly, but even then it couldn't contain her excitement as she avoided another dual strike before landing a heavy, yowl inducing attack on the monster.

We had settled into a rhythm that was just unfair for it as we bounced it between the two of us constantly, the Demon Wolf unleashing dozens of physical attacks from up close while I peppered it with a variety of magical attacks, aiming to weaken it and inhibit it wherever and whenever I could.

The fear from earlier had faded thanks to us finding the winning formula, but I was never going to convince myself that this was an easy, assured victory, not against something like this that clearly had many tricks waiting to be utilized.

Those two appendages it had grown were one such trick, as was the red mist around it that acted as thicker, more potent mana; another trick came out the instant it got close to being torn apart, and that was to release as much of that red energy as it could, a wave of it washing over Lady Fenyras and I.

Just like when we had attempted to enter the temple we were now trying to move through syrup, and that delay - that weight that settled on our limbs - allowed the monster to create space once more to tend to its wounds.

Its regeneration wasn't as fast as before, but it was enough to get it back to a functional state so that it could let out an ear splitting howl, its head pulled back so that it could stare at the ceiling and release its 'voice' as loudly as it possibly could.

The mist around the edge of the room we were in began to shoot for the monster, entering it through its mouth and wounds, accelerating its healing and strengthening it, all while we fought against the thickened air around us.

Trying to swim through nothing to reach a fighting stance was exhausting, and doing it after all of the fighting was enough to make me want to cry, honestly, but there was no time for tears; every second we wasted here was increasing its probability of making a comeback by quite a lot, and that wasn't good.

Fighting through this was hard, but breaking out of it only took us a few more seconds than before; the red energy shrouded our limbs and weighed us down, and using our mana in pulses began to wear at it, cracking it off of us and lessening that weight.

Lady Fenyras broke free before me, and the first thing she did was close the gap between us, her hand landing on my chest as she sent a burst of her mana throughout the remaining red shell around me, freeing me from it and allowing me to focus on attacking the monster once more.

By now it had gathered most of the red mist inside of the temple, its eyes brimming with power while its metallic body seemed shinier and more aerodynamic, like it had undergone some sort of shift alongside the healing.

It was definitely faster since it managed to slip one of its appendages past Lady Fenyras' blade and smack her in the stomach, but the power it had had before wasn't as present since she just stepped into it and only grimaced, looking rather unbothered by the attack.

When I sent a jet of chilled water at its front legs it leapt out of the way, confirming to me that it was in a more agile form now and making me switch from precise attacks to more area of effect type of attacks.

Letting out a bark, the monster released some of that gathered red mist and did something that surpassed my expectations; it blinked through the air from Lady Fenyras over to me, and suddenly I had a very large, very angry metal wolf thing staring down at me, those three rows of teeth glittering dangerous as it opened its jaws and made its intention obvious.

I wasn't about to let it eat me, of course, so my War Pick found its way up into its lower jaw as I attacked out of instinct, but it was still slower than the monster as it instead bathed me in that red energy, which was crackling with power again.

My entire body was wreathed in an overcharged, sharp energy that zapped at my skin, leaving behind burns and welts as it alternated between being something electric and something solid; all of me was hit by it, but the moment I cloaked myself in my own mana the effect was severely lessened.

That second brought the Demon Wolf over with a vengeance, and watching as it was sent flying to the side thanks to her now silver form was rather... fascinating; on one hand it reaffirmed how direct of a fighter she was, using her body as a weapon, but on the other hand it made my heart do that damnable thing that was starting to piss me off.

I couldn't help but notice how sharp her eye looked, how chiseled her jaw and neck were, how strong her posture was or how she glanced at me to make sure I was okay before racing back into the fight; I just couldn't help it, and that made me angry.

Skidding to a halt, the monster shot out a wave of that energy again in hopes of catching Lady Fenyras off guard, only to watch as the Demon Wolf leapt into the air with her blade angled down towards its skull as she avoided the attack.

Plummeting down past its appendages, the Demon Wolf speared her blade through its skull and crashed down against the ground, sending the monster sprawling to the ground beneath her weight and momentum and also pinning it down in the process.

I made instant use of this opportunity by switching back to precise spells as I began to lacerate large portions of its body with a pressurized beam of ice cold water, spreading frost and cutting through its armored body as I revealed its softer insides.

There was no real flesh to be found, but there was a weaker inside that was cut away easier by my water, allowing me to lop off its limbs, appendages and then work my way through its chest, all while Lady Fenyras continued to stab its skull repeatedly as we tried to kill this monster here and now.
