"What's it say, pup? Unless you wanna just leave me here for the rest of the trial, get to readin' already..."

The irritation in Lady Fenyras' voice was palpable as she remained rooted in place, and honestly the moment she suggested that I couldn't help but say "That's not a terrible idea...", not thinking as I focused on deciphering what was engraved into the marble around us.

For a second I didn't even know I had spoken, and like before she just remained quiet before chuckling and shaking her head slightly as she muttered "Fuck you too then.", finally making me realize what I had said but not giving me enough of a reason to reply.

There was something more important for me to do, and that was to figure out what these runes meant; some of them were so jumbled that they could only be decorative in nature, but some of them were very clearly inscribed with a purpose, but that purpose illuded me as I continued to walk around.

The reason it was so... difficult to understand was all thanks to the material it was inscribed on, the lack of mana that seemed to flow through them, and also a more 'stylized' take on what they were meant to do; a trap designed to spout flames towards the door was describing a dragon exhaling its power in a certain direction.

Or the earth shedding tears for the damage it must do to protect itself in the future - unleashing a barrage of water bullets in all directions - alongside a sequence of runes that just told a story with no real beginning, ending or purpose in sight.

"All of them are... separate. Not a single one of these seem linked to the others. Just... gibberish, insanity and then the occasional named spell that would definitely hurt like hell if activated. The problem is I cannot seem to find any sort of activator anywhere, be it in the spell itself or some other mechanism around us."

"That's incredible and all, thanks for proving that all of your nutrition doesn't just prioritize your tits and ass, but can I fucking move or no?"

I glared at the Demon Wolf before looking at a few more of the various engravings around us, taking note specifically of the way they reacted to the red energy that continued to swirl around at the bottom of the stairs.

The glimmering of that red light was caught by the runes in a way that made it clear that that was the activator I was looking for, but the question then became whether or not they needed to be directly touched by that energy or if they could be activated from afar...

"I would appreciate it if you could keep the sexual comments to a minimum."

"Don't think I can when you look like that, nor do I particularly give a damn. I'm going to move."

Her tone was all bubbly as she took a step back before I could reprimand her, and upon that move I prepared to cast a spell if I needed to protect her from her own stupidity, only to click my tongue when nothing happened at all.

"See? Fine. Alright, so these runes are all made by someone crazy... probably the same person - or someone related to - who had created these trials? Might be, could also be some machination of something else. Anyways, the entrance is... there."

She waved her hand loosely at the cloud of red that rested between the pearly white marble walls, acting as the barrier that kept us from moving forwards while an identical barrier resided all around the outside of this structure.

"So we are currently trapped. Let's just head on inside then, hm? What could go wrong~?"

Again she acted without waiting for me, and again I had to react to her actions instead of planning with her, the unbridled confidence that she had slipping into that dangerous zone of being arrogance... though that was what made her so strong, wasn't it?

Tossing aside the arm of the idiot who had tried to stab me, I continued walking through the crowd completely unbothered, my eyes no longer trained on those around me and instead on the two fluffy heads of my ever reliable, yet rarely utilized Summon.

Janus was another regret of mine, the adorably massive Orthos growling at all of the mortals around us to keep them at bay while also searching for my prey, guiding me towards them and promising me a successful hunt.

The giant two headed dog continued to roam around as it searched for my targets, allowing me to stroll through the battlefield as I practiced my other magics in this liberating form of mine; a flourish of my hand - now coated in the blood of that idiot - sent a barrage of bullets that easily punctured armor before burrowing into the veins of those idiots, dropping them to the ground as my magic took root.

Forcing them down to the ground and keeping them there, I helped clear the way for the two Demoness' behind me as I tested theory after theory, these convenient test subjects throwing themselves at me however they pleased whenever they pleased.

Spears tried to snake towards my throat or heart only to sail over my shoulder as the silvery mist around me created shimmers that looked identical to me, just in different spots; 'hiding' in plain sight allowed me to then target them again with another waft of Moon Magic.

Seeing their eyes glaze over before they fell unconscious was something, especially since they began to convulse and mutter to themselves in fear as the nightmares took root; all of the blood around me helped sharpen my hunger and gave me a better grasp over my powers as I searched for my prey.

The sooner I got them, the sooner I ripped their heads from their shoulders the quicker I could return to the Dogkin outside that would fulfill all of my needs, primarily my hunger but also something else too...

And that had me grinning as I continued on with my stroll, ignoring the looks of the Demonesses behind me and just enjoying that I was finally back out... it felt so good to be free, to be unshackled; so good to be whole again~!
