Chapter 165: 165 This is not real

Early in the morning, Luo Xiyun stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass door, her arms folded across her chest, staring out at the balcony.

This was a two-story villa located near the top of a hill. From this vantage point, the view was expansive, overlooking the cluster of buildings below the hill.

The glass door was open, and gusts of wind blew in, carrying the fresh scent peculiar to plants, rustling her hair and the hem of her clothes.

Today, she wore a light purple long-sleeved shirt and a pair of dark blue jogger pants. She had been standing there, her gaze somewhat hazy, lost in thought.

Ding-dong.

She had no idea how long she had been standing there when suddenly the doorbell rang. She snapped out of her trance, took a deep breath, and walked downstairs to open the front door.

Outside stood a cleaning lady in her forties, who asked politely, “Miss Luo, sorry to keep you waiting.”

“Come in.”

Luo Xiyun clearly recognized her, and after letting her in, she said, “Please clean all the rooms for me. Once you’re done, cover the furniture and appliances with white cloths.”

“Certainly, Miss Luo.” The cleaning lady nodded her head and then couldn’t resist asking out of curiosity, “Are you planning to move out?”

“Yes,” Luo Xiyun replied in a soft voice, “everything should come to an end.”

The cleaning lady didn’t hear clearly but didn’t dare to ask further. She just thought that the thoughts of these wealthy people were truly inscrutable.

She had been cleaning the villa since before the previous owner, who initially did not want to sell it. Later, she heard that Miss Luo had offered a high price and bought it.

On the day Miss Luo moved in, she had been called over to help.

At that time, she felt Miss Luo was quite odd, staring blankly at the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. Sometimes, while gazing, her eyes would redden. It was quite pitiable.

However, precisely for this reason, she was a bit afraid of Miss Luo.

As far as she knew, the villa was only built a little over two years ago, and the previous owner had always lived there. Yet, Miss Luo seemed as if she had suffered a heartbreaking past here. And considering how beautiful she was, the thought sent chills down her spine upon reflection.

Thankfully, she always came during the day. Miss Luo was generous with paying, otherwise, she might not have dared to take the job.

Now, after only living there three or four months, Miss Luo was moving out again. Although unclear on the specifics, seeing Miss Luo’s downcast expression suggested perhaps another man had hurt her.

It was unclear which heartless man could bear to let such a beautiful girl be heartbroken.

After giving instructions, Luo Xiyun said, “I’m going upstairs to get some things.”

“Let me help you.”

“No need, I can manage on my own.”

She went upstairs alone, reached the bedroom door, and pushed it open. As she turned on the light, her hand paused on one of the switches.

With a click, she pressed the switch and suddenly, the frosted glass around the bathroom became transparent, revealing a clear view inside the bathroom.

She felt a rush of heat in her heart, resting her head against the wall, her fingers lightly touching the switch.

After a while, she sighed, turned off the switch, and the glass around the bathroom returned to its frosted state, obscuring the view.

She turned on the room’s main light and walked to a suitcase in front of the bed, took hold of its handle, and headed toward the door.

Before leaving, she looked back at the room, and slowly closed the door.

Carrying the suitcase, she went downstairs, said a word to the cleaning lady, and walked out the front door.

A new model yellow Porsche was parked at the entrance. She opened the trunk, placed the suitcase inside.

After seating herself in the car, she grabbed a pair of sunglasses, put them on, and gave one last look at the villa behind her. Then she started the car and with the roaring engine, she drove off swiftly.

When Luo Xiyun arrived at the company, she was a few minutes earlier than usual. As she entered the department, she saw Old Tang and her gaze lingered on his desk for a second before heading straight to her office.

“You, come with me.” As she entered, she said this to Secretary Guo outside.

Secretary Guo usually arrived at the company early and was dusting her desk when she heard Luo Xiyun’s words. Her heart skipped a beat.

In the company, she interacted with Luo Xiyun the most and knew her better than anyone. When Luo Xiyun spoke in that tone, it usually meant somebody was in trouble.

Not daring to delay, she put down what she was holding and followed her in.

Luo Xiyun took a seat and looked at the tomato plant on the desk, then said to Secretary Guo, “Throw it away.”

“What?” Secretary Guo was taken aback and couldn’t help but confirm, “Throw it away?”

Others might not realize, but she knew how much Mr. Luo cherished that plant. The first thing he would do every day at work was to water it, and when he had spare moments, he would even wipe the dust off its leaves with a tissue.

Now, she was actually saying to throw it away.

Luo Xiyun looked at her and asked, “Is there a problem?”

“No, I’ll go do it right away.” Secretary Guo shivered under her gaze, hurriedly picked up the potted plant, and walked out.

“Wait a moment.”

Luo Xiyun called out to her again and said, “Go inform the HR department to transfer Tang Wenhai to another department.”

“Yes.” Secretary Guo didn’t dare to ask further and left with the potted plant.

As she was leaving, she nearly bumped into Liu Kun because she was in a hurry and quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

“What’s the matter?” Liu Kun saw the plant she was holding and asked curiously.

“Mr. Luo has something for me to do, I need to go,” Secretary Guo bowed and hurried off.

Liu Kun walked in and asked, “What’s going on? Why so flustered this early in the morning?”

“Just sending her to do something.”

Luo Xiyun didn’t want to elaborate on the matter and asked him, “Have a seat. What brings you here so early?”

After Liu Kun sat down, he started talking business, “Have you heard about Jinxiu Investment?”

“No. What happened?”

Liu Kun said, “Recently, Jinxiu Investment has been selling shares of Fangdong Group. You know, right now is the crucial time for our collaboration with Fangdong Group, and I’m worried this might affect our plans.”

“Is that so?” Luo Xiyun furrowed her brows. Although she had a poor impression of that woman, she had to admit her investment instincts were impeccable. To this day, her judgments had never been wrong. If she was selling shares of Fangdong Group, there must be her reasons.

“So, I want to meet her in person. It’s better to ask clearly,” Liu Kun said, watching her expression. Seeing her deep in thought, he relaxed a bit.

After a while, Luo Xiyun said, “Meeting her might be good, and by the way, send my regards.”

Liu Kun felt quite relieved. She had finally grown up and wasn’t as impulsive as before. He said, “I’ll make sure to pass on the message.”

Having finished talking business, he left. He didn’t ask about the potted plant again.

Luo Xiyun leaned tiredly against the back of the chair and closed her eyes.

After a while, her phone on the desk rang. She picked it up and saw it was Liu Yumeng calling. She answered,

“Why didn’t you answer when I called you several times last night?”

“Don’t mention it. I lost my phone. I just checked the surveillance and found it,” Liu Yumeng’s voice came through on the phone, “It’s good that I found it. It would have been a big deal if I hadn’t.”

“That’s good,” Luo Xiyun said and stood up from her seat. She habitually reached under the table to grab the spray bottle, only to remember she had asked Secretary Guo to throw out the plant, which left her feeling somewhat melancholic.

“By the way, why were you urgently looking for me? Is something the matter?”

Luo Xiyun placed the spray bottle on the table and asked, “Did you go looking for Chen Xu?”

“Hey, how did you know? He didn’t go whining to you, did he?”

“I ran into him last night; his sister told me,” Luo Xiyun said, pressing a finger against her slightly swollen forehead, “Didn’t I tell you? It’s not him.”

“Come on, with your level of lying, who can you fool?” Liu Yumeng’s voice had a teasing laugh, “I was just curious and chatted with him for a bit. I’ve found that he’s as stubborn as you. Too pig-headed.”

Luo Xiyun felt an even greater headache and asked, “You didn’t tell him anything, did you?”

“Don’t worry, I know very well what to say and what not to say. I was just fishing for information. By the way, did you tell him you have a boyfriend?”

Luo Xiyun was taken aback and said, “No, I didn’t.”

“That’s strange then. Who told him? They described it very convincingly; I would almost be fooled if I didn’t know you better. But, come to think of it, it’s very likely that he’s been keeping his distance from you because of this reason.”

Luo Xiyun’s gaze became unfocused for a moment, involuntarily looking at the empty space on the table, where a round impression remained from where the potted plant had been for a long time.

“Speaking of which, you don’t have an old friend named Du Feng, do you?” Liu Yumeng suddenly asked over the phone.

“No.”

Luo Xiyun said, and her heart skipped a beat. Why did the name Du Feng feel so familiar?

“Then it’s settled. He must’ve been toyed with, but who knows by whom…”

“Wait, wait a minute…” Luo Xiyun interrupted with a trembling voice, “How did he describe him?”

“You mean that Du Feng? He said he’s a doctor from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an executive in a tech company, and an old acquaintance of your parents…”

Luo Xiyun’s phone slipped from her hand to the floor, as if all her strength had been drained away. She supported herself on the chair to keep from falling.

“Xiyun, Xiyun, what’s wrong…”

Through the cracked screen of the phone, Liu Yumeng’s voice came.

Luo Xiyun could no longer hear her, murmuring to herself, “How could this be? Impossible. Why would he know that name? No, this can’t be real; he…”

Bang.

At that moment, the door was flung open from the outside, and a man charged in. She looked up, and in that instant, time seemed to stand still.
