The door opened and the square-faced man walked out, his hair dripping wet, no longer wearing the crude animal hide clothing but a sports shirt and shorts, the muscle contours under his clothes clearly visible.
The other two male team members, a tall and skinny man, and another nondescript male Awakener, had also finished washing up and changed into freshly bought clean clothes; they stepped out of their rooms.
The square-faced big man walked to the door across the hall and tapped lightly.
A crisp voice from inside called out, “Coming, coming!”
Then came the rapid pitter-patter of footsteps, the door opened, and visible was a female member of the team.
Unlike her previously disheveled and dirty appearance, the female Awakener now wore a black patterned T-shirt, the delicate waistline faintly visible under the hem, and deep blue ultra-short shorts outlining her shapely figure perfectly.
Though her skin wasn’t very fair, her long and shapely legs shone brightly and exposed in the air, drawing the eyes of the other two young and vigorous male Awakeners across from her, apart from the square-faced man.
Behind the female Awakener stood the Perception Series Ability User, dressed in a white chiffon shirt and black wide-leg pants; although her figure was not as enchanting, her facial attractiveness was superior.
The two male Awakeners then shifted their gaze onto the female ability user.
Although they had known each other for a substantial time and had formed a closely-knit team, they mostly lived in the dangerous wilderness. For safety’s sake, they would sometimes smear themselves with mud, and at a glance, it was hard to tell even the gender of someone, let alone worry about appearances.
“It feels like coming back to life,” said the shapely female Awakener, “I haven’t had a bath in ages. I didn’t expect the hotel’s facilities to be so complete. With a private spacious bathroom, 24-hour uninterrupted water and electricity supply; except there’s no internet connection, the environment could almost compare to a pre-apocalypse five-star hotel. It’s amazing this Sanctuary managed to achieve this.”
She exclaimed.
The square-faced man gave a wry smile, “How could the environment not be good? Renting a standard room costs five Source Crystals per day. We have to be economical with our usage. Next meal, we also need to be careful; otherwise, we might not even be able to afford weapons later.”
The shapely female Awakener chuckled, “I’ll definitely be careful next time I order food, but it was so delicious, and actually less expensive than we imagined. Maybe we should go again tonight?”
The square-faced man frowned, “The table of Sea Beast meat we had earlier would cost at least a thousand Source Crystals in other Sanctuaries, potentially draining all our savings. Although prices at Green Shadow are unexpectedly lower, a table of Mutant Beast seafood still costs several dozen Source Crystals, enough to buy a truckload of regular supplies.”
“The urgent matter now, is still to figure out how to buy a rune weapon. I believe Green Shadow possesses such weapons; after all, they are Divine Weapons that can easily breach Demonized Beasts’ defenses, but it’s probably not easy to get our hands on one, and it might come at a considerable cost.”
…
…
Ten minutes later, the group stood in the central street of the Business District, in front of the newly opened Equipment Supermarket.
At this moment,
each person was holding a weapon they had just bought, swinging and inspecting it closely, with a look on their faces that said, ‘Did we really just get our hands on this?’
Ten minutes earlier, they had intended to find local Awakeners in Green Shadow to ask, then follow the clues to somehow acquire the rune weapons. However… a passerby hotel attendant told them that rune weapons were available for purchase just on the next street.
Originally, they were not too convinced until they entered the Equipment Supermarket, until they tried the weapon samples, until they had paid, until they exited the Equipment Supermarket…
The tall, thin awakener opened his mouth and finally spoke, “Captain, it’s so cheap, could it be fake?”
The square-faced man swept his combat saber through the air, creating a whooshing sound. A large tree next to him wasn’t severed until several seconds after the combat saber had passed it, and he hadn’t felt any resistance at all.
“We’ve all tried it, and obviously, it’s not fake. It can’t get any realer. A divine weapon-like rune weapon for only a few dozen Source Crystals, that’s just the cost of a meal for us…”
As he spoke, he seemed puzzled and muttered, “Our usual meal indeed cost a thousand Source Crystals, so comparatively, the price of rune weapons seems very normal.”
Five people, some bought combat sabers, others bought longswords, reveling in their new ‘toys.’
At that moment, they saw an awakener in a black combat uniform approaching them. The newcomer pointed at the severed tree and extended his hand, “Destroying a public tree, a fine of ten Source Crystals.”
The square-faced big man froze, his gaze stiffly sweeping over the half-felled trunk, inwardly wishing he could slap himself.
Rune weapons had been cheap, but other expenses in Green Shadow were exorbitantly high!
…
“Captain, Green Shadow is really ripping us off. Just for a regular tree, they fined us ten Source Crystals! They’re practically robbing us!”
The tall, thin awakener was very dissatisfied, “That guy is just an Fourth Layer Awakener, we’re not scared of him!”
After he said this, the woman awakener in hot pants hit him on the head sharply:
“Are you dumb! The guy in black clothes is an enforcer of Green Shadow. Green Shadow dares to sell rune weapons; there’s no way their power is weak. If we don’t pay the fine, next time they might send an Fifth Tier Awakener, maybe even more than one.”
The tall, thin man, holding his head, looked aggrieved.
The square-faced captain sighed, “It’s my fault for destroying that tree. Although ten Source Crystals is too expensive, being able to settle it with Source Crystals is still not too bad. If we were dealing with some more tyrannical sanctuaries, they could use this as an excuse to plunder us outsiders.”
“But now it seems, though Green Shadow isn’t big, all aspects of its order are very well established, comparable to large sanctuaries.”
He thought for a moment and added, “In some respects, it even surpasses them. After all, in large sanctuaries, you can’t eat mutant beast meat at restaurants, nor can you buy divine weapons in weapon shops.”
Now, each of them not only possessed a rune weapon, but they had also bought the very popular form-fitting combat uniforms from the Equipment Supermarket, just waiting to return to the hotel to change into them.

With the new equipment, their squad’s combat power was bound to increase significantly. It seemed they had also achieved their purpose of coming to Green Shadow.
However, the square-faced big man hesitated, thought for a moment, and decided to ask the others for their opinion, “The salesperson mentioned that this demon-slaying battle blade is just the most common rune equipment in Green Shadow. There are even sharper and more incredible rune equipment. Should we go have a look?”
After some discussion, the other members in the team decided to rest first.
They had already paid for two hotel rooms which were non-refundable. They were curious about the more magical rune equipment. To just take a look and find out wouldn’t be a loss.
If the difficulty of acquiring it wasn’t too high and the price they had to pay was bearable, they would try to obtain one or two.
If it was too difficult, they would give up, and it would be no loss.
They had made up their minds; when their hotel reservation expired the next day, they would leave Green Shadow.
