Chapter 73 - 73: First Encounter

Su Xiuyu instantly conjured a Silas Shield in his hand, blocking the energy blast Carol fired at him.

To be fair, Kamar-Taj spells were actually pretty useful—practically instant-cast. But that wasn't a huge deal for Su Xiuyu. He and Madara didn't even need fancy incantations. Just a quick hand sign and boom—Ninjutsu. Also instant.

"Hey, ma'am, was that really necessary?" Su Xiuyu joked, brushing off the heat from the blast. "You wanna kill me just 'cause I accidentally woke you up?"

Carol rolled her eyes. The guy had blocked her attack like it was nothing, and now he had the audacity to complain?

"I don't see any wounds on you. Is this Planet 53?"

"Room 53, ma'am," Su Xiuyu said, playing along. "Need any help?"

"A member of the Kree team, name's Fuss, is tracking Skrulls. We're trying to locate a working communicator. Got any suggestions?"

"The tech here is kinda primitive," Su Xiuyu said, thinking for a moment. "But there's an old telephone booth right outside. You'll have to make do."

How she was supposed to mod the phone to reach the Kree fleet wasn't his problem. That was her specialty, not his.

"Thanks for the advice. Are you planning to leave?"

"Be my guest. It's just coincidence that we ran into each other. Nothing holding me back."

"Alright then. Bye." Carol turned and took off, sprinting away from the rubble. That group she had just met—especially Su Xiuyu—radiated a kind of quiet menace. The pressure she felt just standing near him made her gut clench.

Planet 53 was supposed to be some backwater world, right? So how the hell had she run into someone like that already?

"Following that girl?" Madara asked, his Sharingan spinning slowly as he tracked her energy signature. "She looks like an ordinary woman."

"She does," Su Xiuyu nodded, "but her body's brimming with energy. It's just stagnant, like it's sealed up. She's not dangerous yet."

Madara's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Don't look at me like that," Su Xiuyu added. "Once she awakens fully, she's still no match for you. My methods might be simple, but my judgment isn't off."

That seemed to satisfy Madara, who relaxed slightly. If Su Xiuyu acknowledged her raw power but still considered her beneath him, that said a lot.

"You've seen her future?"

"Part of it," Su Xiuyu confirmed. Ever since he explained his Sharingan's ability to glimpse possible futures, things had gotten easier. Saved him from coming up with bullshit excuses all the time.

"Come on," he said, turning to Madara. "Let's follow her. If we can take control of a spaceship or two, we'll get the chance to explore the universe. This world's a goldmine—full of warriors and monsters."

Madara's blood boiled with excitement. It had been way too long since his last real fight. With every step toward unlocking Six Paths-level strength, his itch for battle only grew stronger.

"Let's go," he said, voice sharp. "Let's keep up with her."

As they continued their pursuit, Carol had already made contact with two Earth agents.

One black, one white—Nick Fury and Phil Coulson.

Nick, known in the multiverse as the legendary "Fuck Man" (a title earned more from fan nicknames than actual deeds), and Coulson, affectionately dubbed "Novice Village Receptionist" thanks to his approachable vibe. Yeah, those two were easy to spot.

Carol didn't bother hiding her presence. No surprise that S.H.I.E.L.D. tracked her down so fast.

Back then, Nick was still just an agent. No Director title yet. He had to work his own cases.

"Ma'am," Nick said dryly, "according to witnesses, you caused major damage at the mall. Since you're 'surrendering' peacefully now, we'd like to escort you to the station. Hope you're cool with some 'gentle persuasion' if needed."

Carol stood tall in her Kree combat suit, brushing imaginary dust off her shoulder. She didn't even try to explain.

Nick squinted. The way she moved—the outfit—everything screamed drugged-out psycho. It was 1995. A woman walking around in tight, glowing armor wasn't a good look. Most people would think she was on something... or turning tricks.

Carol, still partly amnesiac, held herself with unearned pride—like the natives of Earth should just be grateful she was here.

Nick tried not to laugh. This was one hell of a case.

"Lady, you sure you're not high?" he said, half-joking. "You're wearing space pajamas, waving your hands around like you're casting spells. Why don't we swing by the station and talk this out?"

Even good-natured Coulson chuckled.

But before they could continue, a Skrull sniper revealed himself on the rooftop, aiming an energy rifle directly at them.

Carol reacted in an instant, shoving Nick and Coulson aside. The ground erupted where they'd just stood, shrapnel flying everywhere.

"Holy shit! The hell's going on?" Fury shouted, drawing his gun.

Energy surged from Carol's arms like twin cannons, blasting the rooftop with a focused beam. The Skrull's position exploded into rubble.

"Damn!" Fury's eyes widened. "She just shot frickin' laser beams from her hands?!"

"Okay, yeah," Coulson added, still ducking. "I'm officially rethinking my life."

The Skrull leapt off the roof, bolting for a nearby tram. Carol didn't hesitate. She launched herself into the air and landed on the tram in hot pursuit.

As she vanished into the distance, Fury and Coulson scrambled to their car.

"Let's tail her," Fury barked. "But don't do anything stupid. There are probably cameras all over the place. Keep a low profile and follow from a distance."

-----------------

Watching the fleeing Skrull, Carol broke away from the crowd cheering around the tram. She bent down, picked up the chip left on the ground, and took off in pursuit once more.

She spotted the Skrull scrambling up to the tram's roof, so she followed. But the roof suddenly exploded—Carol narrowly avoided dropping the entire tram as she leapt up. The Skrull managed to escape again.

"Need a hand?" a voice said as Carol was about to pull herself up onto the roof. A hand reached out in front of her.

Looking up, she saw the same man who had previously blocked the energy blast with his face—Su Xiuyu. Alongside him stood a clone, a wooden avatar styled after the legendary Madara.

"A gentleman always lends a hand in times of need, right?" Su Xiuyu grinned as he helped pull Carol onto the tram roof. "What a coincidence we meet again. Next time I'll start with an energy cannon."

"You sure it's a coincidence when you appear on the roof the exact moment I do?" Carol shot him an annoyed look. "You apologized in three damn words and just walked off after blasting me across the city."

"Alright, alright—it was a coincidence," Su Xiuyu said, smirking. "My name's Su Xiuyu, by the way. So, I guess we know each other now."

"Foss. Terry. Do you know Terry?"

"Well... just a bit. Kind of," Su Xiuyu said, holding up his thumb and forefinger to signal "a little." But the way he said it, it sounded like he knew far more than he was letting on.

Carol stopped chasing the Skrull and instead opened a hole in the carriage roof. The two of them dropped down inside and waited.

"He's helping, I'll give him that," Carol muttered, glancing at him. "But what's his angle? He showed up the moment the Skrull fell, and he's been tailing me."

"Well, yeah, I helped. And yeah, I may have spilled some secrets, which can be dangerous. So, have you told your side of things yet?" Su Xiuyu shrugged casually. "My friends didn't manage to catch up."

"You scared of a little fight now?" Carol raised a brow, crossing her arms.

"I'm terrified," Su Xiuyu said, exaggerating the word. "You're seriously scary, Ms. And gorgeous too."

He swore it was the smoothest line he'd ever dropped, and even Carol had to chuckle at that. Good thing it was just his wooden clone here—if his main body had said that, Mito would've been pissed.

"Since you're being honest, let's go," Carol said. She didn't care much for Su Xiuyu's secrets. He looked like he was ten years older than her, still clinging to a boyish charm. Carol was confident—whatever secrets he held, she could handle them.

As for why Su Xiuyu was so upfront with her about the Kree conspiracy—it was simply because he believed she'd figure it out herself. A girl like Carol wasn't someone who'd take the truth at face value unless she discovered it firsthand.

Carol didn't even try to hide the memory chip she'd retrieved. She openly examined it right next to Su Xiuyu. The chip was pretty damaged, but she managed to pull a few fragments from it: "Dr. Lawson / Project MA / Pancho's Bar, California."

"Alright, let's get moving. Time to find a ride. Let's get a Harley," Carol said, glancing over at a biker who'd just parked outside a store. Without hesitation, she marched over and jacked the guy's motorcycle.

"Pancho's Bar in California, here we come."

Su Xiuyu hesitated for a moment as she straddled the bike.

Seeing how carefree she was, Su Xiuyu hopped on the back. The two roared down the highway on the Harley.

Su Xiuyu couldn't help feeling a little awkward. It had been years since he'd been this close to a woman—aside from Mito. Wrapping his arms around Carol's waist felt a little too intimate, but she didn't seem to care.

"You've been talking nonstop. Can't handle sitting behind a lady?" Carol teased once they arrived.

Su Xiuyu blushed slightly, but stayed silent. He wasn't used to this kind of interaction.

"Alright. We're here—Pancho's Bar. Time to get serious."

They entered the bar. Carol's eyes immediately went to the vintage airplane photos hanging on the wall. She stared at one, trying to recall memories of Dr. Lawson.

"What'll you two have?" the bartender asked.

"Where was this photo taken?" Carol asked, ignoring the question.

"The photo? At the airport."

"Which airport? What's Project MA?"

"Project MA is classified," came a new voice. Nick Fury stepped into the room. "And so is info about people like you."

Carol turned around. "We haven't met before. You from the Kree?"

Fury looked up at Su Xiuyu, who towered over them. "Who is this?"

Carol waved it off. "Oh, him? Just a new friend. We met recently."

"Right. Looks like he's been struck by lightning, judging by the look on his face," Fury said.

"Listen, today's been hell—car chases, alien invaders, my partner's now lying on an autopsy table because he turned into a damn alien. I'm not in the mood for cute banter. I'm looking for Project MA. Any leads?"

Su Xiuyu, still calm, replied, "I'll tag along"

"Let's go then," Fury muttered. "Aliens showing PDA and I'm the one getting hurt."

Su Xiuyu's clone chuckled and followed Fury and Carol out to the car. They passed through multiple checkpoints before finally arriving at a NASA facility.

"Alright," Fury said. "We're S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. We're looking for a woman named Dr. Lawson. You know her?"

The three staffers at the front desk exchanged glances but said nothing. Then, wordlessly, they escorted the trio to a reception room.

Time passed. No explanations. No answers. Then, the door locked.

"Sorry, Su. I didn't mean to drag you into this mess," Carol said, sighing. "I'll give you a way out soon. Things are about to get complicated. Probably not safe for civilians."

"Why apologize?" Fury muttered. "What, you think being an agent is enough to get us out of this?"

Su Xiuyu's wooden clone nearly laughed aloud. This live-action drama is pure gold.

"Don't worry, Ms. Fuss. I'm very strong—like, ridiculously strong," he said, flexing his biceps proudly.

Fury rolled his eyes. "Yeah, looks like you're all muscle, no brain."

Carol looked at the tall, awkward man and couldn't help but smile. He was charming in his own way—even if he talked way too much.
