Chapter 526: 511, Heartbreaking Duo_1
Nightfall came, and the dreaded medicinal bath that Black Jack feared the most came too.
Bai Jue had a huge wooden barrel prepared, into which all the medicinal herbs were put at once. The steam spread, filling the air with a faint herbal aroma.
Jian Luo sat shirtless in the barrel. The medicinal concoction spilled over, wetting the floor.
“Jian Luo, you must soak in this medicinal bath for at least one and a half hours. You can’t quit halfway, or it will be in vain,” Bai Jue advised.
“I understand.” Jian Luo looked up at Grandpa Jian and the others and said, “Grandpa, you all should go out first.”
He didn’t want them to see him in pain.
Jian Qing glanced at Black Jack, placing his hand on Grandpa Jian’s arm, “Grandpa, let’s go.”
“Alright.”
Bai Jue walked last, he lightly patted Black Jack’s shoulder before also leaving.
“Why aren’t you going?” Jian Luo sat in the barrel, the warm water tinting his pale face with a hint of redness.
“I’m here with you. I won’t go,” replied Black Jack preemptively.
Jian Luo almost smirked, “I didn’t say I wanted you to go.”
“How does it feel?” Black Jack stared at him, his heart inevitably anxious.
“I just started. What did you expect?” Jian Luo helplessly raised an eyebrow while playing with the floating herbs.
“Where did Bai Jue get these dang herbs from?”
Black Jack just stood still, causing Jian Luo to speak up.
“Get a chair to sit. Why are you constantly standing?” Jian Luo leaned over the edge of the barrel and sighed. “Why don’t you leave instead?”
Black Jack said nothing, pulled over a chair, and sat down opposite him.
Half an hour later, Jian Luo’s complexion slightly changed, a hint of pain flashed in his eyes.
Black Jack’s gaze was always on him. The minute changes in his facial expressions couldn’t escape his watchful eye.
“What’s wrong? Are you starting to feel pain?”
Suppressing the discomfort, Jian Luo tried to put on a smile, but couldn’t suppress a whimper.
He gripped the edge of the wooden barrel tightly, and Black Jack held his trembling hand.
Jian Luo gritted his teeth, beads of sweat were constantly gathering on his forehead, wave after wave of intense pain was attacking his mind.
“Ah–”
His eyes flushed red as screams escaped from his lips.
“Jian Luo!” Black Jack held his shoulders and cried sternly, “Calm down, hang on a little longer!”
“It hurts, it’s so painful!”
The pain left Jian Luo curling up, with nerves popping out around his neck and temples.
“Black Jack… knock me out!”
He clung onto Black Jack’s hand, speaking with trembling teeth.
Black Jack’s eyes turned red as he swallowed and croaked,” Xiaobai, for me, hang in there a bit longer. I’m here with you. We will get through this together.”
“Ah–”
The unbearable pain corroded Jian Luo’s mind; he was hitting the barrel while Black Jack held onto him, trying to prevent him from hurting himself.
“Jian Luo, calm down.”
Hearing his voice, Jian Luo’s eyes flashed with comprehension, his teeth gritted so hard that they oozed a streak of red.
“Jian Luo, let go.”
Black Jack’s gaze turned deep as he pried his mouth open and stuffed his wounded hand back into his mouth.
“Mmm–”
Lost in pain, Jian Luo bit down on his hand while Black Jack quietly watched him, not making a single sound of complaint.
The taste of blood spread between their lips. Jian Luo’s eyes were bloodshot, and he couldn’t help but tremble.
“Ah–”
He let go and tried to struggle out of the barrel.
Recalling Bai Jue’s words, Black Jack suppressed his pain and pushed him back down.
“Let go of me, let go…”
Jian Luo flailed his arms about and growled.
Black Jack let him hit him while trying to make sure he didn’t hurt himself, all while preventing him from leaving. He was barely able to cope.
Outside, Grandpa Jian and the others hadn’t left. They heard the commotion inside. Grandpa Jian closed his eyes in anguish while Jian Qing leaned against the wall, a palpable tension radiating from him.
“Don’t worry, he will make it,” Quan Jingwu embraced her, gently patting her back.
Jian Qing made a barely audible sound of agreement. Her deep-seated concern grew even stronger.
“Bai Jue!”
Black Jack’s shout came from inside, startling everyone.
Bai Jue, who was closest to the door, was the first one to rush in.
Observing Jian Luo’s frenzied state, Bai Jue was taken aback.
Clearly, the excessive pain from the medicinal bath had driven Jian Luo to madness.
He walked over quickly and helped Black Jack hold Jian Luo down, calling out to Quan Jingwu who had just come in,”Hurry up and help.”
Quan Jingwu and Bai Jue held onto Jian Luo’s shoulders from either side. Black Jack’s injured hand, having been soaked in water, looked quite gruesome.
“Black Jack… Knock me out… Please…” Jian Luo’s handsome face was unnaturally flushed as he stammered out the words.
“I… Beg you…”
Leaning over, Black Jack embraced him, pressing his head onto his shoulders, allowing him to bite into his shoulder.
“Jian Luo, we’re in this together!”
Jian Luo, with red eyes, bit down, his restrained body involuntarily spasming.
Observing this, Grandpa Jian and Mo Xiao’s eyes filled with complex emotions. The firm belief they once held was gradually waning.
Could it be that they were all wrong?
Suddenly, Jian Luo’s body convulsed violently, his eyes closed, and he passed out.
“Jian Luo!” Black Jack called out in a panic.
“It’s okay. He passed out from the pain,” Bai Jue said.
Over the next hour, Jian Luo repeatedly passed out from the pain, only to be awoken by it once again. For everyone, it was unbearable. Time seemed to stretch out infinitely, the hour felt like a century.
“Black Jack!” Feeling the pain subsiding, Jian Luo reached out for Black Jack’s hand.
“I’m here!” Black Jack gripped his hand with one hand and rubbed his head with the other.
Bai Jue watched the two faintly amused.
“You two should clean yourselves up, we’ll leave first.”
As Grandpa Jian and the others left, Black Jack picked him up and headed for the bathroom.
At dawn, Jian Luo woke up. He glanced at the sleeping figure beside him and carefully got up.

However, the moment he moved, Black Jack woke up.
“It seems I woke you up after all,” Jian Luo apologized.
Black Jack shook his head. As Jian Luo’s gaze caught sight of the wound on his hand, his eyes darkened.
“Your hand?”
“It’s fine, a little wound. It will heal in a few days.” Black Jack placed his hand behind his back, smiling nonchalantly.
Jian Luo’s face fell, he pulled Black Jack’s hand towards him.
Seeing that deep bone-bearing bite mark made his eyes sting.
“Did I bite this?” He said softly.
Black Jack sat upright and ruffled his hair, “Don’t think too much.”
“Fine, but are you stupid? Why would you let me bite your hand?” Jian Luo stroked the wound, feeling his eyes well up.
“Alright, don’t worry. It’s nothing compared to your pain.” Black Jack consoled him, “Hurry up and wash up. Let’s take a walk outside.”
As he said this, he pulled him up and pushed him towards the bathroom.
