Modern World Warlock-Chapter 249: The Androids’ Engineer
When the group entered the hangar through the aircraft's entrance, they found themselves in a massive room with a runway.
Next to the airstrip in the middle, dozens of military planes were parked on metal platforms, and at the back of the room, they saw a few sparks coming out of a vehicle.
As Dante and his group scanned their surroundings, they found it strange that there was nobody around except for whoever was producing the sparks, so they approached the broken-down vehicle.
*Creak, creak* The sound of gears turning could be heard, followed by the buzzing sound of the welding machine that produced the sparks.
*Phew* "All done…" A man said, sliding out from under the aircraft and finding himself face-to-face with Alice.
"Ahh! Who are you!?" The man asked, getting startled and falling down his rolling tray.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to scare you… I'm Aisha, and I was sent here by Mr. Heller," Alice replied, completely making up a story on the spot.
Still, her experience as a detective worked wonders, as she was able to lie with a straight face, and even her apology sounded sincere enough for the man to believe her.
"Ah, I see… Can I look at your emblem?" The man asked.
Alice knew that the Azure Rebels used custom emblems that they gave to their members to recognize each other, and realizing that her plan would go nowhere, she grabbed the man by the arm and seized him.
"Argh! What the heck!?" The man shouted.
"Shhh! We aren't here to hurt anyone, so let's keep it that way, please," Alice said, sitting on the man's back as his stomach faced the ground.
*Sigh* "Bah, whatever…" The man scoffed, leaning his head against the ground in utter defeat. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
When Alice looked back up at her group, she realized that only Zac and Megan had stayed with her while Dante and the vampires were gone.
"Where are the others?" Alice asked.
"They all ran in different directions as soon as we came in…" Zac replied, slightly irking the ex-detective.
Still keeping her cool, Alice asked the mechanic why he seemed so defeated. The Azure Rebels were supposed to have a mentality of "fight until the end," but the man's actions were the complete opposite.
"Is this even the Azure Rebels anymore…?" The man replied with another question.
As the trio of the Omega Team questioned the man further, he revealed he was only working for the rebels due to his respect for the Heller family.
However, the Azure Rebels had lost their way a few years ago, and the man simply followed orders since he didn't want to get killed by "those things."
"By 'those things, ' you mean the undead, right?" Megan inquired.
"Undead? Is that what they are? I just called them monsters…" The mechanic replied.
Alice squinted with suspicion, believing she might know the mechanic's identity, so she asked for his name.
"Gin Salas…" He replied.
Megan and Alice widened their eyes in realization, leaving Zac utterly clueless, as he didn't recognize the name.
The Salas family was the leading family of engineers who had given their support to the Azure Rebels ever since its creation.
They were the ones who contributed the most to the production of androids and new weapons, and they were also in charge of the androids' maintenance.
"Oh, you've heard of us? That's cool, I guess…" Gin said.
Still, the only reason that Alice and Megan knew about the Salas family was thanks to their line of work, as they weren't a popular family that people in Novaria knew much about.
After the cartel and the rebels started "negotiating" a few years ago, Gin knew that there was something wrong as Oskar suddenly stopped supporting the people of his territory and instead focused on making new weapons.
Gin was the oldest son of a man called Raul, who was the leading engineer for the Azure Rebels, and while his dad focused on the androids' production, Gin was sent to care for the aircrafts at the hangar.
"The true Azure Rebels are gone… This is just a terrorist organization now," Gin commented, biting his lips with anger.
Megan crouched to get on Gin's eye level and offered him a way out, telling him she could give him a job at Novis under the Jade Dragons. Even so, the mechanic didn't seem excited about the idea.
"Didn't you guys have a war against another gang not long ago?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Right, a war caused by the same people that are destroying your precious rebels…" Megan replied, her tone severe and unwavering.
Gin was taken aback by her statement, completely unaware of the reality of the events. He believed that the ordeal with the Blood Dragons had been a simple dispute between gangs, but when Megan revealed that the cartel had planned it, his outlook changed.
"I see… So, you are saying that we are next?" Gin asked.
"I don't know what the cartel wants from you guys other than weapons—but they already have hostages…" Megan explained.
Once again, Gin was utterly perplexed when he heard that Oskar's wife and child were under a curse that could make them light up in flames with a single snap of Darius' fingers.
Moreover, when she tried to elaborate further and explain that they were also keeping the souls of the deceased family members, Gin finally understood why the Azure Rebels had gone that route.
Megan realized that Oskar had been keeping the matter of the hostages a secret from the other members of his gang, but she didn't know if he was doing it out of malice or as a way to protect them.
As they kept discussing, Gin made up his mind and decided to go with the Omega Team, placing his trust in the trio that stood before him.
Nevertheless, their escape wouldn't be as simple, seeing two androids walking into the hangar with their eyes set on the intruders.
"Individuals, unidentified…" Said a male android.
"Wait, wait… They are with me!" Gin spoke up, raising his arms and standing in front of the group.
"Gin Salas… Checking for guests' clearance…" The android said, making the mechanic nervously gulp.
"Denied—Commencing intruders' extermination," he continued, prompting the trio to prepare for the battle.
