Chapter 270 - C262

There was a loud bang.

The light of the Rainbow Bridge shone in the void.

As the Asgardian guards roared within the palace, the entire population of Asgard was thrown into shock. The realm was immediately placed on high alert. Heimdall, the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge, had been attacked by Loki, caught completely off guard. Stripped of his Guardian Sword, Heimdall was left defenseless.

Without the Guardian Sword—an essential key—Asgard was powerless to open the Rainbow Bridge portal. Meanwhile, Loki had stolen the Eternal Torch from Odin's treasury and escaped through the Rainbow Bridge, heading to the Kingdom of Fire, Muspelheim.

In the Rainbow Bridge chamber, Thor, Sif, Natasha, and Wanda stood before a guilt-ridden Heimdall. Thor stepped forward, placing a reassuring hand on the loyal guardian's shoulder.

"This is not your fault, Heimdall," Thor said in a deep voice. "The responsibility lies with me."

He continued, "We were so consumed by the glory of war that we neglected Loki."

Heimdall remained silent for a long moment before speaking. "Loki has stolen the Eternal Torch and gone to Muspelheim. Thor, you understand what this means."

"Yes," Thor replied, his voice firm.

Thor's gaze swept across the room, pausing on Sif and the Warriors Three before settling on Natasha and Wanda. "My friends, Asgard is on the brink of war. This is our war, and I am sorry I have not shared Asgard's passion and glories with you fully." He hesitated, then added, "That celebration must now wait."

Natasha, sharp as ever, picked up on Thor's meaning. Her lips curved into a confident smile as she adjusted her Asgardian-style gauze attire, which lent her an exotic elegance.

"We are friends," she said warmly. "And friends don't shy away from war." Her voice carried a challenge. "Thor, are you doubting our friendship?"

Thor's mouth twitched, then he laughed—a deep, hearty sound that filled the chamber. "I would never doubt it. We trust each other, and our friendship is unshakable. We will fight together." He looked at them all. "When war comes, we will stand as one. But first, we have a problem. Without the Guardian Sword, we cannot open the Rainbow Bridge."

In the grand hall of the Immortal Palace, Thor addressed the gathered gods.

"We cannot remain passive," Fandral declared.

Thor nodded, but his expression was grim. "The only tools capable of opening the Rainbow Bridge are the Guardian Sword and Gungnir. Both are in Loki's hands. This puts us in a difficult position."

The Rainbow Bridge was not just a passage—it connected Asgard to the nine realms and beyond. It could transport Asgardian forces instantly or serve as a devastating weapon, capable of destroying entire worlds when fully charged. However, its power came with strict limitations.

The ability to trigger the Rainbow Bridge was tied to the power of Odin, channeled through either the Guardian Sword or Gungnir. With neither in their possession, Asgard was effectively paralyzed, unable to act offensively.

Thor exhaled, his fists clenching briefly before releasing. Despite the urgency, he remained calm. "Fandral, activate Asgard's highest defense protocols. Put the army on full alert. Everyone must be ready to mobilize. Loki's theft of the Eternal Torch means he plans to restore Surtur's power, but it will take time to breach our defenses."

He turned to Wanda. "Wanda, you once studied Earth's magic. Can it help us?"

Wanda shook her head apologetically. "I've learned teleportation magic, but it requires either having been to the destination or a precise anchor point. I've never been to Muspelheim."

Thor considered this. "Heimdall can help. Even without the Guardian Sword, his eyes can still see through the nine realms."

Wanda nodded, understanding. "I'll prepare immediately."

With a soft hum, Wanda disappeared from the hall in an instant. The gods barely had time to marvel at her speed before Thor resumed.

"Loki intends to use Surtur's hatred and power to ignite a war against Asgard," Thor explained. "But he knows Surtur alone cannot destroy Asgard quickly. He must have another plan, another conspiracy. We must stay vigilant."

Thor's gaze sharpened. "He may even remain in Asgard, sowing chaos from within. Stay on guard."

The gods and warriors nodded in unison. "Understood!" they answered firmly before dispersing to carry out Thor's commands.

Once the hall was empty, Thor turned to Natasha. "Natasha," he said, his voice quieter but still steady, "when the time comes, I may need... his help."

Natasha's expression softened, and she gave a small, knowing smile. "When that time comes, you'll have it."
